I don't know much about him. Is he better than McKinney?....what about Julian Love?
3 year 45 million
I saw some highlights, he's looks long, fluid, and has a nose for the ball....in those highlights. Other than that, your guess is as good as mine.
I like this, did not think he would be on their radar

Ed, I wonder how the $$$ compares to what the Packers spent on McKinney.
Are we just signing a bunch of backups?
He's a good, potentially very good, player coming off a somewhat down year. Still don't understand the logic of paying up for Holland and Slayton while letting Barkley and McKinney walk.

He was the third-best Safety in the league in 2023, and last season, he took a nosedive. Versatile and can play deep, Box and Slot.

In what world is Jevon Holland a backup?

McKinney was 4 years, 67 million, and 23MM Guaranteed. His cap hit jumps to 22.5MM his last year.

So he moved to safety in 2024?
I am losing my hair with this signing. Why the hell did he let Love and McKinney walk and is now spending somewhere right in the middle for Holland?
What happened to "Safetey isn't a $$ priority"?
What happened to "Giants don't prioritize the Safety position" defense?
Schoen has more egg on his face than Daffy Duck.

I meant Safety, oops! I'll fix
So he played well under Fangio, helped run him out of town and then was not as good with his new DC

Hopefully he returns to 2023 form

Because in 2024 he sucked at safety plus we already drafted Tyler Nubin last year in round 2 and if safety is really so bad we can sign Malachi Moore from Alabama in round 5 and he would start.

Holland has been a starter his entire career and instantly becomes the best safety on our roster, so not sure where you're getting information that he's a backup. Not to mention, he was the top safety available in free agency.
I don't love the money, but I'm a big fan of Holland's and he's been on my radar since his college days.
I still see Banks as a major weak spot, but with Holland and Adebo, our secondary should be vastly improved. If Phillips can continue to progress and Nubin can improve, this could be a very strong unit.
Priority in draft should be guys who can stop the run - DL and ILB.

Which in turn makes the DL better, it's clearly been a position of need.
I'm just struggling with the decisions to let McKinney and Barkley out the door to splurge that money on this guy and Slayton.
Still, I'm happy to see how it plays out. I'm just a little confused by the mission.

I think Schoen knows he screwed up with Barkley and at the time he couldn't afford McK.

I'm OK with the safety swap, but I agree, they could have probably kept Saquon. Don't sign Singletary and someone else , restructure or move some stuff around, it could have been done.

Yes, maybe.
Jevon Holland is a step below stud level. So was McKinney until he left Giants. In short, Holland can take leap to stud level very easily in Bowen's system.
Wasn't a fan of re-signing Slayton but this signing makes up for that. Holland and Adebo just improved the back end of Giants D tremendously.
He's better than Pinnock obviously
But one thing we will miss is when Pinnock was asked to blitz ..... he's no doubt the best safety in the league at getting into the backfield

Wait, is the secondary a strength now? If Banks can get his head in straight you've got three decent corners, a 2nd year guy in Nubin that is really good and now the best safety in FA.
Helps the pass rush too. We need at least one DT in the draft but the defense has some players.

Jevon Holland is an elite top 10 safety.
6'1″ and weighing 205 pounds, the 25yr old was a second round pick of the 2021 draft. In 60 games (57 starts) Holland has recorded 301 tackles (including 9 for loss), 5.0 sacks, 10 quarterback pressures, 5 forced fumbles, 4 recoveries, 5 interceptions, 25 pass breakups, and even scored a defensive touchdown. He had a down year, but had an elite 90.4 grade in 2023 and has been a top 5-8 safety since he step foot in the league.
Our dline now has depth and has the potential to be elite. Then you add in Adebo, Phillips, and Banks as #2, then Holland/Nubin on the backend and our secondary has been completely transformed to pair with the dline. Bowens defense always does better with elite safety play. Most thought Holland was going to sign a 4yr 80 million dollar deal, so to get him for what amounts to 3yr 45 million with only 30 million guarenteed is a steal.
Big difference in the players added this free agency is that they play the ball at a level. They Turnover the ball at a high clip. Between Adebo and Holland they have 15int, 68pd, 7FF, 6FR, 5 sacks, 16tfls.
I wanted him in FA and am happy the Giants picked him up. Excellent!

They signed a DE/DT in Golson and DT Roy-Robertson-Harris, that's the depth now.
Plus, I predict they'll be drafting a DT by the end of day 2.

Still confused why people aren't over the moon with this signing. If him and Mckinney were both FA they get the same money, and a year later we get him for 23 million less than Mckinney.

Jess,
He had a bit of a down year, last season. I suspect that might be what is dampening enthusiasm.
The NYG defensive secondary looks much improved over last season, at least on paper.

I get that completely but so did Mckinney in 2022. I think the reason for his dip was the change in DC to fangio. Safeties flash in Bowens defense, so I could easily go back to his top 5 ways immediately. I mean guy is one season removed from a 90 pff grade which is bonkers, and confuses me as to why there isn't more excitement for him and adebo.
Just looked up why Holland had a down year and he played injured most of the year.

Finding it hard to be excited about defensive players given the state of the offense. If at some point it looks like this team can score more than 15 pts/game I will probably be more optimistic
Will this guy help against the run? Our run D has been an utter sieve for years now. No defense that is as inept as we are against the run can be a bona fide good D.

"Holland didn't enjoy his best season in 2024, but he's still going to be one of the most highly coveted defensive players available, especially considering he's only turning 25 years old in March. A versatile back-end weapon who's always been stout against the run, Holland has a lot to offer in an NFL that is trending back to the ground game. It's time for this safety to test the market."

Good stuff. Thank you.
The more I think about it the happier I am. Schoen basically traded in Mckinney for a 3rd rd pick, and a top 10 safety for 3 million a year less than Mckinneys deal.
