If he were available at 3 why would we draft him ? We signed Adebo and still have Banks and Phillips as CB. Would he be a receiver ? Would we be better off with Carter if he is available or Mason Graham who will be,
We could trade up in the first round , our 2nd round pick and one of our 4ths and draft Dart .

Hunter would probably be CB1 and others would slide down with Banks to bench. Dru stays in slot. He'd get some reps at WR probably. Help out there. If he's just a CB for the Giants, I'd prefer Will Johnson.
For me, the answer to this question could lead to a conversation about how Howie Roseman generally has such a good draft record and why Schoen's has a spottier record at least for his 1st 2 years. Its hard enough drafting a great player; its doubly hard to draft a great player at a certain position. I don't know if Hunter will become a great player but I read everywhere that he's generational which is very rare. With some exceptions, and there aren't nany, draft the player who you think is more likely to be great and impact the game as opposed the player into a specific role

Three reasons IMHO:
1) you need great players on your roster, we are lacking great players and Hunter is a great player.
2) you need depth to be a strong team, he would add depth to the secondary, special teams, and WR.
3) real value IMO for a pick this high should not be wasted on a high risk prospect just because he happens to play quarterback. The Giants have dug themselves a hole at QB, they cannot afford to dig any deeper.

Good answer . Thanks . Not that Carter or Graham or even Wil Johnson would not turn out to be excellent players . Right now Roseman has a distinct advantage over us in that he has a SB and excellent winning team
Hunter is probably the best player in this draft, particularly when you factor in he can play both ways. You're filling two holes with one player. If the Giants were to take him I think he ends up as WR2 right out of the gate and gets part time snaps as the 3rd or 4th CB for now. If Banks doesn't pick up his play soon he's not going to be around much longer and at that point with some NFL experience already under his belt, they might let Hunter do a little more at CB. Also, don't forget that the Giants lose about 10 starters per year to injury so whenever that starts happening having a guy that can fill two spots could prove useful.
But the short answer is: You can never go wrong adding high quality talent to the roster. Whether it's Hunter, Carter or Graham adding a player of that caliber will always make your team better.

I think Hunter would be our CB1 out of the gate. Paired with Banks, (with Adebo spelling Banks if he doesn't come back around), would make a tremendous tandem. If Banks isn't our CB1, maybe the pressure of carrying that mantle would allow him to thrive at CB2 :-??
Using Hunter as a spot WR would simply throw defenses into chaos...even if just used as a decoy (which I suspect that would be his role most of the time). Take pressure off Nabers, and if they continue to double Nabers, throw Hunter the ball and make them pay. I could see a smart OC using him at WR once or twice a game, just to throw a monkey wrench into the defense and put them on their heels
And I couldn't agree more - don't piss away your high first round draft pick on a risky player simple because of a positional need like QB. Take the stud in the draft who comes with very little risk, and is a winner on the field
My theory for the draft is to pick 2 qbs in the 2nd-to-mid-rounds and let them battle it out for the eventual starting QB position (maybe Shough/McCoy, or something like that)

Agreed.
Years ago there was a player named LT who wasn't chosen as 1st pick - but obviously should have.
If this kid is a shut down CB it's worth grabbing him and trade one of our other DBs. Go QB in next year draft.

He was the second pick behind George Rodgers to the Saints who valued him higher . That year LT won defensive player of the year or was it rookie defensive player and Rodgers won the same award for offense.

I remember reading that the coach of the Saints explained his decision to take Rogers. He said that he could call a play using Rogers any time he had the ball for as many times as he wanted. He said he could run or pass on the other side of the field that LT played to minimize his effect. Makes some sense in theory but didn't work in this case.
Here's the thing that would worry me about Hunter: wear and tear. Has played an enormous amount of snaps and is rather slight of frame. Teams will challenge him in the run game. He's an outstanding talent but it does seem the Giants have invested in the secondary..plus trying to save Banks from the bench..maybe impossible.
I'd love Carter..wow. Graham too. BPA..Avoid Ward..Sanders..please..Dart 🎯 is worth an investment.

I've told this story before so I apologize a head of time. Following his hire in '79, I established a correspondence with George Young. I would send him a note, usually around draft season, and he would respond with a short handwritten reply on a 4 sided note featuring the team logo on the first side. He was very forthcoming, not afraid to share blunt opinions about certain players by name. Anyway, before the'81 draft I was hoping he would share some intel on his choice at #2 overall and his response was pure GY " Jim, I won't even tell my confessor who I'm taking" At the post draft presser when asked about the choice said all but 2 of the 28 teams in the league had LT as the best player and thank god New Orleans was one of the two"

I love that story. Never gets old. Keep telling it please. It's Giants lore

If I remember correctly, after Rogers was selected , Pete Roselle said , " The Giants are on the clock" . As he turned to go away, it was announced , " The Giants pick is in " Teams had 10 minutes between draft picks , the Giants used one minute !!!
I think if the Giants are not taking a QB, the Giants should simply take the best player available with positional value in mind. Hunter plays CB and WR, both of which happen to be premium or near-premium positions. I would not hesitate to take him if I were the Giants and I viewed him as the clear best player available. Forcing picks or passing on the best player due to perceeived positional need is the methodology that will lead to consistently mediocre or below mediocre drafts.
Nabors, Hunter, WDR and Slayton. Give me a RG and I can throw for 4000 yards and 40 TDs. Just sign Wilson or Flacco and let's move on.
I'd be fine taking Hunter at 3. Do we trust that Banks will rebound? And even if he does, with all the 3, 4 and even 5 receiver sets they throw at a defense these days, you can't have too many good DBs. Hunter and Adebo would give us two lock down corners and with any pass rush at all, would make it a very difficult D to pass against.
And yeah, Hunter would have a few WR plays for certain situations.
You're drafting these guys not just to be on your team next year, but hopefully for the next decade. If Travis Hunter turns out to be a truly elite CB, nobody is going to care that he didn't fit an immediate need in 2025.
