Title: Draft: Plot twist
Post by: andrew_nyGiants on April 05, 2025, 08:36:32 AM
I realize this is a long shot, but please play along. Draft night anything can happen. So..

What if?

TN takes Hunter and CLE takes Sanders?

We have a choice between Carter and Ward.

Who are you taking? and Why?

Andrew,

If Cam Ward were to fall to us, it's a no-brainer.  You take the franchise QB and never look back.

Interesting.
So  you are certain that he's a franchise level QB?

I'm a little nervous about this entire QB class.
Maybe it's PTSD from the DJ experiment. Maybe it's just this class.

For me, I would feel better if the risk vs ROI was a second or third round QB.

Andrew,

I think the best way I heard it put-  "Ward may not be an elite prospect on par with the top 3 of last year's draft, but he is still worthy of being the number one pick in the draft"

What concerns me about Ward is his mental processing.  I am not convinced he can process football at NFL speed.  For that reason, I'd take Carter.

The Giants would take him in a heartbeat.

It's Carter, hands down.

Besides, the Giants aren't going to get their franchise quarterback until 2026. So, this is really a non-starter plot to begin with.

How do you like that, @andrew_nyGiants  ?

Peace!

Think the Titans and their dan base would go insane. If they don't draft Ward after watching Levins go haywire the past two years. .. a hold on the mayo..

And new coach there..in Callahan wants his own guy..so I think the Browns will be interesting next..ahould take Carter to pair on the DL...leaving Hunter for our heroes and Shedurr sinking like a rock..

Ward makes special throws and is very dynamic. He has things to clean up as almost any QB prospect entering the league does. He still has a worthy enough grade to be selected #1 overall.

Hi Dave.

That list has been put out by our brethren here before. I'll try to track it down but if the individual who originally posted it can link it here quicker, I'd be most appreciative.

Thank you!

Andrew: If Giants stay put, it means they'll take best player available (and/or listen to trade offers).

If Carter/Ward are on the SAME level on their big board, I don't see how they could pass up Ward.

If not (and I'd bet money Carter is higher-ranked), they'll take Carter.

Bob

Travis Hunter is my clear #1 choice.  He has a 100% clean bill of health.  He is not some snot nosed all about me kid, but a country kid who does nothing but train and learn.  He has some God given skills in how he sees and tracks the ball from both a WR and CB position.  His size works.

Carter's recent injuries are a bit concerning for me as I wonder if they may have lasting effects.  I continue to be concerned about him being one trick pony of speed only and going around blockers instead of also through them.  I know I am in the minority on him here and certainly hope I am wrong here if the Giants take him.

Ward has a gunslinger's mentality and good physical attributes like his arm, but I am not sure he has the mental processing skills to be an elite QB.

You take Cam Ward, it is not even a question or debate, you run to the podium with the selection.

If someone offers a ransom, then consider, but if he drops to 3, thats probably unlikely

I feel a bit responsible.  Because I saw Cam Ward as out of NYG's reach, I have not shared all the glowing assessments of him that have come out over the past month.  If you still have the mindset from February when people were debating if Sanders or Ward was QB 1, I could understand why you would opt for someone other than Ward if that option was available.

Having seen all the glowing assessments from evaluators, I respect, I can't imagine NYG passing on Ward because with him, need meets positional value meets talent.

Was there ever a QB taken 1st who didn't have glowing assessments from "experts who won't be coaching them?

I guess it depends on your definition of glowing

Baker Mayfield
Bryce Young
Kyler Murray
and even
Jameis Winston

could be considered exceptions depending on your definition

With Ward, there is some concern for a bust factor in terms of some of his questionable decisions and hero-ball tendencies, but overall people are raving about him as having high upside potential. More so than other first overall picked QBs

There's a lot to like with Cam Ward. The quick fluid release in the quick game and RPOs, the anticipation, the ability to hit strong throws outside the numbers on the Wide Side, quick reads when there is opportunity to read more than half the field. I do have some reservations about that 3/4 and the sidearm throws instead of throwing from a variety of positions. He also had some questionable decisions like most of the QBs in this class, and I'd like to see him do more with his legs. I can't see the Giants passing on Cam Ward.
