Skinner just said 7 of the 8 picks were top-30 visits.

Have to wonder if this could become an issue in the future
A short highlight film:

Played on the edge. Looked effective in both zone and m-2-m. Good hands; the video highlights several picks. Looks to hold up well against the run. Intriguing.

Maybe, but that means 23 were not selected and a certain QB who they had in was passed over only 215 times.

Good point
Guy played like 63 college games, he did break out this season.
Did a deeper dive on this guy's career at Oklahoma State. He was very much a specialty team demon. No doubt played into the Giants decision to use a late selection on him.

Anytime you're talking about a corner who ran a 4'3" at 6 foot 200, you have my attention. In any round.

Brian: This guy fits the team's current defense better than any other DB on the current roster, IMO, so he will have a 'head start' at sticking with the team. It's a very good pick. Bob

I had to read this twice--are you telling us that you think a 7th round pick has a very good chance of making the final 53?? in fact better than some currently on the team?? I hope so

He will need to show that to make the final 53.

Hi Dan: The better our roster gets, the harder it is to make the roster.
We have a few guys on the current roster that are sure "goners" but really no more than in an average year, and IMO fewer than last year. And of course injuries in spring and summer have an effect on how many rookies stick (including free agents).
Bottom line: he has a better chance to make this roster than most 7th-rounders drafted by teams that haven't recently changed GM's.

Schoen drafted Black with the idea of adding a special teamer who could play a bit of CB

Rich: I heard that in the video, but he did also say (earlier, in response to some other question) something to indicate that he was (in the interview) putting a cautiously-optimistic (conservative) tint on his answers about each pick.
Black played in a zone defense that is very much like what Bowen likes to do if left to his own devices. Since he's not the head coach (and considering our personnel, many of whom are Wink types), we can't say Black will fit right in, but we can be sure there will be teams against whom they play lot of zone.
IMO the goal of this defense will be (considering all the pass-rush ammo they now have) to blitz as LITTLE as possible, which will increase the number of plays where they can play zone. This is the key. If it does not turn out that way (for whatever reason) then my optimism for Black's chances to stick will wane.

decent size and I do NOT like short or spindly corners. for round 7, a good pick.
