Overall
Korie Black projects as a No. 5 CB who fits best outside in a zone scheme. He has good size with great long speed and leaping ability. There is some inconsistent hip fluidity, particularly from a backpedal into a lateral cut, and he takes time to hit top speed. In press, he struggles against better releases, is a step behind when he cannot get hands on his target, and his mirror footwork needs improvement. Black utilizes the sideline well, but often overcommits his hips and struggles to turn to the middle of the field on in-breakers. In off-man, he sits heavy at the break, routinely caught flat-footed, leaving him exposed to penalties.
Black can work in most zone coverages, with the long speed and turn-and-run ability to stick down the field, and the timing to disrupt shallow zones, although offering little slot ability. When moving forward, he can disrupt the catch point consistently, but he struggles to get his head around downfield. Black is a passive run defender, failing to attack with urgency, although he is a reliable tackler. On 3rd downs, he will remain outside. His size, speed, and experience should make him a core ST player.

Overview
Three-year starting cornerback with good size and great speed. Black played in all coverage schemes but needs more polish in press and off-man. He's not bad at matching route breaks and releases, and he can be smothering at the catch point when his route anticipation is on. He plays with eye balance and readiness from zone but needs to trust his instincts. His difficulty finding and playing the football with his back to the quarterback is an issue, though. Black appears well worth a Day 3 pick for his traits and tape flashes alone.

Weaknesses
Inconsistent syncing up feet with hands to slow the release.
Has a tendency to lunge and grab when beaten in press.
Will need to play with better discipline to prevent penalties from piling up.

BACKGROUND: Korie Black was born in Kansas City, Kan., and grew up in Waco, Texas, with his parents (Keith and Kiesha). His father was a
defensive back at Kansas State and also ran track in college, qualifying for the 1997 NCAA Indoor Championships in the 400 meters (45.80
seconds). Black was a multisport athlete and competed with his brothers throughout childhood. His older brother (Keith Jr.) played basketball at
Ranger (Texas) Community College. His younger brother (Kobe) was a five-star cornerback recruit in the 2024 class and committed to Texas over
Ohio State and Oklahoma.
Black attended Connally High in Waco, where he was a three-sport star. He moved up to varsity as a freshman and lettered all four years, playing
both ways at wide receiver and cornerback. After earning second-team all-district honors as a sophomore, Black had his most productive season
as a junior in 2018 with 33 tackles, seven interceptions and three forced fumbles, plus 27 catches for 468 yards and three touchdowns, helping
Connally to an eight-win season. As a senior, he led Connally to a 12-1 record and the district championship. Black finished with 31 receptions for

513 receiving yards with 29 tackles, plus one interception, earning all-district honors for the third consecutive year. He also earned all-district
honors as a guard on the basketball team and was a standout track athlete. Black was part of the 4x400 relay team that set a school record and
had personal bests of 20 feet, 4 inches in the long jump, 38-7 in the triple jump and 50.37 seconds in the 400.
A three-star recruit, Black was the 40th-ranked cornerback in the 2020 recruiting class and the No. 73 recruit in Texas. He received his first ofer
during his freshman year from hometown Baylor, and an ofer from Oklahoma State arrived two months later. His father's alma mater (Kansas
State) ofered him after his sophomore season, and he later added ofers from Colorado, Missouri and several Big Ten programs (Minnesota,
Nebraska, Purdue). The summer before his senior year, Black committed to Oklahoma State and was the eighth-ranked recruit in head coach Mike
Gundy's 2020 class.

STRENGTHS:
● Tall, long corner who matches up well with size on the outside
● Aggressive-minded and doesn't shy from bumping routes
● Uses size to shrink catch windows and plays through hands
● Reads eyes of receivers to find the ball with his back to the quarterback
● Solid tackling strength and will unload on ball carriers when driving downhill
● Blocked two field goals in college; returned another for a touchdown
● Durable — started 38 games
WEAKNESSES:
● Average acceleration burst when carrying receivers vertically
● Upright and late to transition when he allows receivers get on him too quickly
● Inconsistent balance in recovery attempts
● Can be baited into excess contact downfield (see matchup against Jack Bech on 2024 TCU tape)
● Will lose track of his route when his eyes get too nosy in backfield
● Left a few interception opportunities on the field
SUMMARY: A three-year starter at Oklahoma State, Black was an outside cornerback in former defensive coordinator Bryan Nardo's scheme. It
was painful at times watching the porous Cowboys defense in 2024 (allowed more than 500 yards per game), although Black was one of the few
bright spots — he posted career-best numbers as a senior.
A good-sized athlete, Black is a rangy cover man who can work underneath routes in zone or squeeze receivers outside in man-to-man. Nuanced
route runners cross him up, though, and he lacks the elite recovery agility to easily get back on track. Overall, Black needs to improve his eye
discipline to better stay in phase, but NFL teams will like his physical attitude and length to match up in coverage or as a tackler.
