Wake up and say what a nice dream I had last night.

I hope the Giants can be at least semi competitive in the first Eagles game.  Got a feeling the Eagles will be resting some of their players in the 2nd Eagles game which will be the last game of the year and the Giants may have a chance.

I guess we will find out next year how good Jones is (provided he can stay healthy) cause Jones is not going anywhere in 24 due to his contract-unless they can trade him.

Quote from: Jclayton92 on November 29, 2023, 10:07:28 AMThat wasn't serviceable, he only threw above 200 yards 6 times last year. In the modern NFL you have to have a Qb that can throw at a high volume, and Jones can't do that. His processing is bad, and our offense will continue to be in the bottom of the league as long as he is behind center.

I guess making the playoffs and winning a game with a third rate line and 2nd rate receivers doesn't qualify as serviceable in your eyes. Everyone's entitled to an opinion.  We are talking about the term "serviceable" not terms like outstanding  or good.

Quote from: Jclayton92 on November 28, 2023, 03:50:25 PMWhat in his 5 year career has shown you that he is serviceable? Absolutely nothing

Last year showed he is serviceable. My main issue with Jones is his inability to stay healthy.

Quote from: Jclayton92 on November 28, 2023, 12:50:15 PMThe problem with that is Jones isn't mediocre to be in a position to ever become good.

Teams lines aren't made up of 1st and 2nd rd picks. Most are 5th and 6th rd picks, we can't keep doing that. We've got to get a couole guys in FA, and a new oline coach and let guys develop. Because we can't keep wasting draft capital on the oline.

You really think Jones is not even mediocre?  His biggest drawback is his inability to stay healthy. Give him a strong line, and he will be a serviceable QB.  Plus you got a lot of $$ tied up with him in 24.

We need 3 more O linemen, not 1 more. Schmitz and Thomas are solid-the rest are 2nd and 3rd string back ups.

Let's say the Giants get a blue chip QB in the draft and name him the starter.  He will make some rookie mistakes and right away there is a QB controversy. Some players want to win now not in a couple of years-some younger players may have patience.  Better bet is to start Jones and let the blue chip QB learn.

Another option is trade down for a couple of lower round 1 or round 2 picks and get some serious help for the O line. Maybe use one pick as trade bait for a solid younger free agent right tackle or guard and one pick for a top O line draft choice.  We have 2 good linemen- at center and left tackle- let's fill the other 3 spots which are woefully weak.

A solid O line turns mediocre QBs into good QBs and opens holes for runners. Just look at the 07 and 11 Giants.

Big Blue Huddle / Re: Tommy or Tyrod?
November 28, 2023, 10:07:25 AM
If the game actually mattered, I would go with Tyrod as he gives us a better chance of winning.  However, he is not a long term answer due to his age.  OTOH, Tommy is developing and what better time than a meaningless game to give him experience and see if he can develop into something the Giants can use in the future.

The Giants are financially committed to Jones in 24. I would like to see them use their 2 top draft picks on O linemen and develop a line capable of run block and pass blocking.  This would help make Jones into a successful QB and give Barkley an opportunity to run off 100 yd games on a consistent basis.

Drafting a wonder QB with the same old line does nothing. Keep Tyrod and Devito around another year.

Big Blue Huddle / Good to get a win but
November 19, 2023, 04:30:34 PM
Washington really lost the game more than we won it. What team has 9 sacks and loses? A team that drops passes and has 6 bad turnovers. Credit to our D for those fumbles and ints. AND Kudos to T. Divito for playing a good game He could develop into a solid back up with more time. A tough kid.  Kudos also to Lawrence, Tribidoux, and Barkley.

I gotta comment on the dumb play of Simmons who could have fallen on the fumble and effectively ended the game on Wash's last TD drive-instead he tried to pick it up and run and lost the ball.  Also on that last interception, it might have been smarter to just go down and cover up the ball and end the game rather than run for the endzone and risk a fumble.

Daboll called a smart timeout right before the snap to give his D a little rest on the last drive.

Good to get a meaningless win even if it cost us a higher draft pick.

Big Blue Huddle / Re: Get Well Soon, Daniel Jones

DJ is a good guy who was with a poor team. I would of liked to see how DJ would have performed with a strong OL.

I wish him a speedy recovery and hope he can get over his PTSD from playing behind our paper mache O line.

2002 playoff loss to SF when they had a big lead and blew it.  Had trouble with long snaps all year and on the final play they tried for a game winning FG which turned out to be a bad snap and the kicker threw it downfield and pass interference was not called as the receiver got mugged. I realize it was not a regular season game but man that one hurt.

Big Blue Huddle / Re: Kayvon vs jets

With about 1 minute left in the game I was wondering who should get the game ball-Barkley or Tibbs

The giants need to put their resources into the O line.  A solid O line makes mediocre QBs and runners good, and a poor O line makes good QBs and runners mediocre or even poor.

IMO the O line is the most important unit in football. A perfect example is Eli in 07 and 11.

Big Blue Huddle / OT coin toss-wrong choice?
October 30, 2023, 11:24:14 AM
I think the Giants should have let the Jets have the ball first in OT.
My reasoning is they were not going to score a TD on their first possession to win and the D was playing well enough to get a stop if the Jets got the ball.  Now all the Giants needed was a FG to win.
Why give it to your offense who was unable to move the ball.  Give it to your defense get a stop, get back momentum and hope for a FG. A 3 and out by the Offense just gives the Jets mo and deflates the D.
