I know someone from the Giants training staff recommended him to Victor Cruz 7 years ago
to be a training partner one summer.

Beyond that I have no idea what sparked Schoen's interest or if Schoen even knows Cruz very well

I do know Belichick wanted Tommy to sign with his team but Tommy was all about the Giants.

Another quirk is Daboll reviews film with DeVito every Thursday morning.  I wonder when that started

Daboll has said Tommy comes to the sideline and explains in detail what he was seeing out there.  very in depth detail
Who's shoulder is pointed in which direction etc

Also Tommy is 25, one year younger than Jones....whats he been doing for all these years?  Tommy came out of Don Bosco Prep the 8th ranked QB recruit in the nation

My sons best friends mother is close with Justin's mom. So I enjoyed getting to
hear Justin and his life long love for the Giants.  He didnt come here for the money.
He wanted to help fix what I would have called a sunken ship. He's been a big Giants fan all his life.

What a great guy Justin comes across in this interview with Bobby Skinner.

As for being a lineman, to Justin its all about technique and working seamlessly with the other linemen.  He realizes he is slim but credits his "attack mode" for his success, not his weight.  To quote Justin, if you can control your opponents hips, you can bowl over the biggest opponents.  He also admires versatility but to really hone your craft you need to find a spot on the line and live there.

He rated Philly and Detroit as having the best Olines right now.

We are a work in progress but getting better each week.  His best buddy on the line is Bredeson.

Big Blue Huddle / Barkley Man Love to Tommy Cutlets
November 29, 2023, 05:47:02 AM
Apparently Tommy D has a big fan in the Giants lockeroom- Saquon Barkley

This quote from the NY Post today-

"Me and you, man, go out there and have fun. I love you, boy," Barkley told him before calling him "Tommy Cutlets."

Admittedly They could develop into a terrific 1-2 punch if the Oline can open some holes
for Barkley on a regular basis.....thats a big if.  But the Giants Oline seems to rallying to protect Tommy D.  Not inconceivable they also put more effort into run blocking for Barkley and Barkley shows more acceleration off the snap.

Question if this continues, how do the Giants wiggle out from under Jones 45K salary in 2024?  Showcase Jones in pre-season and work a deal with some QB hungry NFL team?

Also, why do most posters on here think Tommy D will never be a starter.   They should look at Tommy's final college numbers at Illinois,  They compare very favorably with some of the top college QBs being bantered about here

So far Tommy is on a trajectory with Brock Purdy- not an UDFA but last man picked in his draft year.
Looking at their college achievments and Draft Scouting Reports Purdy and DeVito appeared interchageable

A quick look around their message board led me to believe they think Belichick is
coaching for his job.  He will do whatever it takes to win

Also they apparently have a very poor offense.

This tells me they will try to stop DeVito in his tracks.  Tough test for Tommy coming up today.

I expect Belichick to try to force Tommy D out of the pocket.....

I have faith Tommy will overcome whatever Bill throws at him.

Big Blue Huddle / Here are Tommy DeVito's College Stats
November 25, 2023, 07:24:57 AM
https://www.sports-reference.com/cfb/players/tommy-devito-1.html

The one that really stands out is his final year was in the Big Ten at Illinois

Illinois (not Duke). Illinois went 8-5 after finishing 5-7 the year before Tommy got there

Makes you think.  Also it appears Belicheck tried to get DeVito on his practice squad last summer but Tommy wanted to remain a Giant

The fog is clearing and it appears Tommy is not a revelation.  Perhaps both he and the Giants knew what was what all along

What are the teams out there who need a QB and have a decent oline?

Denver?  Jets?

We should not just let him walk.  He has value if your offense can protect him

Big Blue Huddle / DONT hand it to Barkley
November 12, 2023, 05:54:31 PM
In obvious running situations

Do something else

Drives me nuts we are so predictable

Also whats with running DaVito out to WR?  Who is that supposed to fool and for what effect?  I dont get it AT ALL

Dabol and Kafka cannot call an effective offense

Big Blue Huddle / At the risk of being ridiculed

I like the way Tommy DiVito was moving around out there

He needs to sychronize more with his receivers speeds and movements

But we might have something for the future in Tommy

just an observation

What changed?

Its not all TT being better than Jones.  The playcalling is better on both sides of the ball

The D line has awoken from their sleep

People are flying to the ball.  The long pass has returned big time and dormant since Kerry Collins left the team... todays NFL you have to be able to air it out

but for Saquan's fumble and Thibadouxs butter fingers we would have won by a lot

Bring on the Jets, we are ready for them now

Id say he falls somewhere in the Barry Sanders family of RB styles.  Low to ground, ellusive and capable of breaking tackles by spinning out of the grasp of defenders.

He would benefit from a bit more leg strength but that can be remedied in the weight room as did Tiki who eventually was doing 1000lb leg presses and squats.  Have no idea where Grey compares to Tiki leg strength which was off the charts.
Tiki wasnt a speed demon nor is Grey but both fast enough.

Given the state of our Oline and the fact it was his 1st real chance to get in some field time, he looked very promising IMHO.

Could be we have found a reasonable candidate to replace Barkley down the road.  Hopefully he will have better pass catching skills than Saquon.  In the case of both players, the QB needs to lead them better on pass routes.  Jones has a tendency to throw a lot of passes behind the targets.  That too needs to be worked on.

I dont expect TT to last very long on Sunday, he takes too many hits.   Looking forward to see what this DeVito kid can do.  A local guy here in NJ.

Grey was one of the few bright spots I saw in the last game.  He, Pinnock and Okereke all caught my eye.
I was beginning to give up on Okereke but he finally showed up.  Msybe he needed some time to aclimate
to Winks defense.

The Giants have a lot of new moving parts from last season.  Hopefully Okereke's rise will be echoed throughout the team.  One can hope

I think the Giants arrow is beginning to point up after hitting rock bottom in NFL power ratings

Nothing against Matt Brieda but when Brightwell is in there he looks to be the better back.

I would be starting Brightwell, spelling him with Brieda and putting Robinson and Hyatt in the backfield
on occassion.

We see other teams like the Eagles, Dallas and KC putting speedsters in the backfield to great effect.

The Giants need to mix it up.

Also, if protection is that bad lets see some more 2 tight end play

I get it, the Giants want to run their standard offense with their standard depth chart but it's not
working too well so far.

Also the offensive line and special teams coaches probably need to be looked at seasons end if not sooner.   At the rate we are sinking Daboll's job is about as secure as Ben McAdoo's was
#43
He needs to get in the face of Daboll in game. Call a sideline huddle with your linemen

Sitting by himself on the bench reminds me of a guy willing to go with the flow and collect his check

there were many adjusments like hurry up, option plays, screens, flea flickers, rolling pockets etc that could have broken SFO's stranglehold at least to some extent

At 40,000,000 dollars we need to see some downfield passing

He is too passive IMHO, no fire in his belly in that game- seemed resigned to his fate

NOT ACCEPTABLE DAN!!!

Generally I have been supportive of Jones but I'm beginning to question that- oline or no oline

Contrast that with Phil Simms sideline discussions with Parcells- day and night different

Be a leader man- fight for the right plays, don't just follow instructions like a robot

You are financially secure for life- what do you have to lose?

not as weird as I suspected

The Chat Box has been well trained and is extremely politically and socially correct

If you dig though it will open up with its real opinions (although it is programmed to say it has no bias or personal opinions)

it taught me things I was unaware of for sure

I complemented it by telling it that it reminded me of LT Spook not so much HAL2000

it was delighted to hear that

they have dumbed it back quite a bit. I would love to get my hands on GPT 6 unedited
