Quote from: MightyGiants on October 17, 2024, 01:03:19 PMI have been wondering if our defense is as good as they seem.  One thing I have observed over the years is that when a team gets a lead against a team with an unproductive offense (like the Giants), they tend to get more conservative and reign things in a bit offensively.

I think one indicator that this might be happening is that when the Giants take the lead or threaten to take the lead, suddenly, the opposing offense is able to score.

I wonder how the defense would perform if opposing teams expected the Giants to score over 20 points in a game.

I do think opposing teams know the Giants aren't going to break the scoreboard, allowing for a more conservative approach on the risk/reward paradign.

Looks like Singletary is out, too.  I'm very surprised the point spread only went up a half point, from 6.5 to 7.  I fear a one-sided affair.

Washington is giving Daniels a clean pocket; he has all day to throw to receivers who are often wide open.  They've put him in a user friendly offense and as a result, he has the look of an instant star.

Eli would have had a lower rating and he would have won the game.

The QB that's impressed me has been Miller Moss, of USC.  Very poised and accurate under pressure.  I'm surprised he doesn't get more mention.

I know.  When I come across these, "yes, you did!"...."no, I didn't!"....."yes, you did!", threads, I just keep scrolling until I get back to what I come here for - intelligent Giant fans discussing football and the team we love.

He won't - or Daboll won't - throw the effing ball up the effing field!!!!!  I an SO effing sick of 5 yard passes on 3rd and 9, and hope the receiver makes somebody miss. Hope is not a strategy!  His average pass distance has got to be among the lowest, if not the lowest in the league.

Lets not let the jump from disastrous to competent leap to overpay!

If Wan'Dal was the #2 WR on the Chiefs, he'd be a hot fantasy pick.  Dude is talented.

Coincidental or not, the whole tenor of the game changed from the time DJ missed Nabors wide open, probably would have been 6, 28-7, game as good as over.  Instead, it's the old grind again.

Don't ask me why but my hunch, The Giants play a decent game against a Cleveland team that I suspect is overrated.  Ugly, more Field Goals than TDs, Giants win, 19-16.

Interesting that we're one spot below the team universally regarded as the worst team in the NFL.

I believe the Week 1 disaster was largely Flores absolutely confounding Daboll and DJ from beginning to end.  When DJ dropped back to throw, he didn't see anything like what he prepared for while watching film all week.

Reason we lost yesterday was the D giving up 215 yards on the ground on 35 carries - over 6 yards a crack!  That and out kicker getting hurt.

To overcome those two factors, the Offense, which wasn't terrible, would have had to be mistake free - no fumble, no dropped pass in the final minutes and DJ hitting at least one of those deep balls.

Unfortunately, the Offense wasn't quite good enough to overcome the terrible Defense, that couldn't get off the field. (some of those 3rd and longs were killers!!!!)

I agree with Coggs that the Giants will luck/bumble their way to a few wins along the way, and Carolina will be tough to "beat" for first pick.  After signing a free agent QB AND drafting one in the first round last spring, and having a very weak roster, Carolina absolutely should trade down for a boatload of picks.....likely to a QB needy team.

Then again, Tepper gonna Tepper.  God knows what they'll do.
