Quote from: gregf on March 11, 2024, 06:14:21 PMSeriously. The negativity is tiring.  I get we all vent at times. But I come here to chill, talk football, not get burdened with gripes.  I actually really enjoy following the offseason moves every year as the roster reshapes
It's not negativity it's the truth. This is objectively an average Oline player who was overpaid just like nearly all of Schoen's contracts.

Quote from: uconnjack8 on March 11, 2024, 05:31:44 PMI like Burns but pass rushers aren't much use when your offense cannot score (and you can't stop the run).

we will get Drake Maye and be fine

Quote from: uconnjack8 on March 11, 2024, 05:20:26 PMIf the offense doesnt improve I don't see how Daboll survives.  Even if they are playing a rookie QB.

The team seemed to be behind him last year as there wasnt an effort dropoff when they were out of it. If the offense continues to be one of the worst in the league, I doubt that is the case again.

Regardless its March and a lot can happen before September.   Right now I feel like this year is going to be a 2 or 3 win season but maybe Runyan takes a step forward and Neal becomes a competent RT and they have a decent offense.

Sorry, but today has made me about as pessimistic as I get in the offseason.
maybe pigs will fly too

Unless the giants draft a non JJ McCarthy qb, they will be taking a step back offensively

Wow!! A great move and confirms our defense is playoff caliber.

Now draft a QB and we are back in business

Quote from: Jclayton92 on March 11, 2024, 05:13:01 PMhuh? I'm the one person that was completely against signing Jones from the beginning so I have no clue what you're talking about other than being ridiculously emotional in every thread over an oft injured RB and a Qb that won't be here next year.

Singletary has always been in a stable and not a feature back hence why he was paid like a stable back.

The offseason just started you have no clue if Jones will be the Qb, take a deep breath and slow down on spamming every single thread with the sake thing. We get it you don't like schoen and Jones but love saquan.
I haven't been on this board to know your Jones stance calm down.

And let's not talk about emotional given your tantrums whenever someone criticizes JJ Mcartthy. If you don't like my opinion or threads feel free to stay out of them

Quote from: zephirus on March 11, 2024, 05:14:21 PM"They did it last year, so I'm numb to it," the running back said when asked about the franchise tag. "I don't have any feelings toward that at all.  If you're gonna do it, just don't wait until March 5," Barkley said. "Just get it over with. If not, let me go. Simple."

That's not a ringing endorsement from Barkley that he wanted to be back.  The Giants offered him a multi-year deal last off-season that he turned down.  It's clear that Schoen and Barkley's representation were not close on a contract that represented the value Schoen believed Barkley brought with what Barkley's representation thought he deserved.  That's just a business decision and while losing a great player stings, it's a part of football.

the giants disrespected saaquok at every turn and he still wanted to be a giant for life. Should have just shown him respect LAST year and he would've stayed for less

Quote from: Jclayton92 on March 11, 2024, 05:08:24 PMNo we shouldn't have, we get out of the Jones deal next year. We should have not paid either, what does a 47 million dollar back help a team rebuilding? Answer it doesn't.
HE WASNT GETTING 47 MILLION LAST YEAR

Quote from: kingm56 on March 11, 2024, 05:00:23 PMAnd we would be in the exact same place, a below average team.
We would have made the playoffs had we signed literally any AVERAGE qb last year.

Quote from: zephirus on March 11, 2024, 04:59:59 PMNobody walks for nothing.  They go into the algorithm that's used to define compensatory picks next year.  Both players expressed displeasure with the Giants and it's pretty evident they didn't want to come back.  We want players, not prisoners.  As much as it hurts to lose them, I applaud a GM who assigns value to players and doesn't deviate from the strategy and over-pay, especially at positions like running-back and safety where there is typically deep value in the draft.

So far he's making some relatively low cost signings which I think is great.  This team is not one player or two or even three from competing for a championship.  I'd rather construct through the draft, over time, than keep making expensive swings for the fence.  I don't anticipate the Giants being a contender next year, and that's okay.  The Giants made a mistake last off-season by signing Jones to the extension they did and giving Barkley franchise money.  It's gonna take a season to undo that.  It might even take 2 if they're not thrilled with the quarterbacks available at #6 and decide to revisit in 2025.  Show some patience.

in what universe did saquon not want to come back?

I've had patience for years. Schoen has shown he is absolutely clueless on every single thing he's done other than Kayvon. Joke of a GM.

Quote from: Jclayton92 on March 11, 2024, 04:55:57 PMexactly, Barkley had 72 more yards than Singletary. I think the Giants are winners in that scenario and winners not paying a safety 70 million that barely caused game changing plays

So what do you expect devins numbers to be with Jones as our QB and no weapons? Saquon made the pro bowl last year and Devin has never even gotten 1,000 yards

Hope you aren't one of those also complaining Jones has no help next year

Quote from: Jclayton92 on March 11, 2024, 04:37:24 PMYou do realize great teams dont pay running backs right? Paying him 40 million for 900 yards and being injured 4 games a year would have been dumb.
We should have paid him last season instead of our Qb. Let's talk about dumb

Where was this "rebuild" during the season when we looked awful?
