Will that translate into more throws to him?  Otherwise means nothing.

With a new contract, why would he not take more chances on his throws now?  If he fails he is still set financially for life.  He has FU money.

Evan Neal reminds me of my golf swing.  I spend so much time thinking about components of my swing that it breaks down constantly somewhere in my swing.  I never trust it completely and just swing.  I think he may be the same - focused in balance but being slow, focused in lateral quickness but being too high, etc.

Nubin was not drafted in 2nd round not to be high on this list.  If he does not make it, then the 2nd round pick may be questioned.

Quote from: MightyGiants on June 04, 2024, 03:14:42 PMRight now, the Giants are keeping DJ out of 11 on 11 until he is further along in his recovery

I am saying he should simulate 11 on 11 by scanning field

I am in the camp that says he should be behind center like it is 11 on 11 and looking with a wide field of vision (to simulate how he would be during a game) then looking to his WR and throwing it.

He looks like he plays with a high center of gravity coupled with either slow legs/feet and/or slow mental processing of what his opponent is doing.

Great video to see his flaws.

If he a) listens to his coaches, practices and incorporates all the minutiae of playing WR and has a "my ball not yours" attitude, with physicals like that, he can dominate.

As I examine people who made personnel decisions in my companies, one thing i notice with some of them is their weakness in seeing only a positive image of a person rather than their actual image or other attributes that are not positive.  I wonder if Joe Schoen suffers from that.

Quote from: MightyGiants on June 03, 2024, 01:35:14 PMI am not sure there is an answer to this question.  There are so many different ways to put together a successful football team.   I will say it's usually helpful to have a good QB, at least one elite receiving threat, and a player or two who can pressure the opposing QB.  Of course, you need a functional O-line (doesn't need to be elite, not that it doesn't hurt, but it needs to be solid)

When we had good teams we had standout players everywhere.  Now we need the offense to step up more I think.

Quote from: T200 on June 03, 2024, 09:15:00 AMWe need a dominant edge rusher. Someone who can apply pressure to the QB but is also stout in run defense and knows how to set the edge.

We also need a shutdown DB.

Think we are close to having those in Burns and Banks.  Far away from the other positions I noted.

I think for this team to hum, the following needs to happen:

RB - either we need a rotation of 2-3 very good RBs or one needs to be a standout.  We can't have a rotation of 3 average RBs.  That gets nothing done except spreads around mediocrity.  I am really hoping Tracy becomes that standout along with Singletary so we have a solid 2 RB platoon.

WR - We have Ferraris.  It is time to tune their engines then let them race.  If they were on the Miami Dolphins or Kansas City Chiefs, you can bet those head coaches would be trusting them more and getting them more opportunities.

TE - I am betting here on Theo Johnson.  I see old school Giants TE in this kid.  Love the Penn State bloodline.  I like Bellinger, but I think his ceiling is lower.  We need high ceiling players coached up to that ceiling.  Again, give this kid a chance.

OL - Play the veterans and get them into the starting lineup NOW so a unit forms and gets reps. Stop with this "experimenting."  Eze is a backup until proven otherwise so stop giving him starting minutes in practice.  Again, a unit needs to form.  If team is committed this year to Neal at RT, then play the best RG next to him.  If Neal fails by game 3, get him out.

Defense

I simply think this unit will be fine.  The addition of Burns, continued development of Thibs and consistency of Dex along with Okereke behind them makes this unit good.  Banks will be that much better.  Lock down the other boundary CB and get Phillips and Nubin the reps they need to make them starters and go from there.

Conclusion

The standouts to elevate this team need to be primarily from the offensive side of the ball as the defense should be ok.

Many (myself included) questioned WanDale pick in 2nd round.  Saw some bursts this year.  Hope it leads to breakthrough this upcoming season.

Jalin is a mystery.  Great hands in college and explosive vertically yet Giants rarely through to him.  Why?  Proper route running deficiency?  They have to get him way more involved so if he needs to be coached up somehow, please do it.

Nabers was highly productive in college.  Figure out his deficiencies and solve them so he is day 1 ready.

Giants WRs are far from finished product.

More time to throw means more time for WRs to run down the field or for them to run and spread out down the field making it harder for teams to cover and opening up running game.  That would be extremely entertaining and fun to watch given our WRs.

What do we need to make that happen?  OL!!!

Sacks destroy the morale of an offense.  Gets players questioning each other.
