Campbell absolutely didn't blow it.  If anyone did, it was Josh Reynolds.

Quote from: BluesCruz on January 28, 2024, 09:22:41 AMAt 4 YPC Barkley is an average back who struggles to move the chains

Most of his yards come from the occasional long runs in the 2nd half when the D is tired

He should be granted his release and free agency.  If he goes to the Eagles or Cowboys all the better for us

Please tell me which planet you live on where the Giants offense has been tiring out opposing defenses in the 2nd half.  I'll pack my bags right now and join ya.

That's what I was hoping they'd do that night....it's also still possible Barkley could have lasted to #5, which makes not even picking up the phone all the more egregious.

Quote from: Gmo11 on January 26, 2024, 10:44:05 AMHe's right.  If they were going to overpay for one of those guys probably over pay for the one of them that's actually good at their job.  Seems pretty straightforward. I think the reasons things played out the way they did are pretty obvious, selling the fanbase on letting Jones walk after his best season, but from this it makes me think that the players would have understood if they did it.

I agree.  I said it at the time and will say it again- playing hardball with your best player, a team captain, a guy that has put every piece of work into the franchise that you've asked him to put...WILL have negative consequences in the locker room.  I'd even go so far as to say it cost the team wins this year.  You can believe that or not- that's fine.  But this stuff MATTERS to players- when a guy does everything right and the front office still doesn't pay him, it reverberates.

And let's not forget- we are not talking about a huge percentage of the cap by any means at all- say it was 12 or 13 million a year for multiple years.  The cap hit is actually lower since it's spread out and the difference between the tag and a multi-year deal, cap wise last year, would have been minimal when looking at the entirety of the cap situation.

I think this was 100% a misstep by Joe Schoen- for the CULTURE impact at such a minimal cost.  Kayvon is just saying what I guarantee other dudes in the locker room are thinking.  They want to play for a team that not only says they value your hard work and dedication but also backs that up with dollars and SECURITY.  I'm sure most won't like to hear that message, but that doesn't make it any less correct.

This is crazy to me.  Maybe he isn't the GOAT after all?  I mean, if he really was, would he even have to go through with these processes??  Shouldn't he have a bidding war on his hands?

We'd want a young up and coming and by all accounts brilliant front office man to leave for some measly third round comp picks?  Sorry, I can't get on board with that.  I hope we can hang on to him, if he's really as good as it's been reported.

I'm actually hoping now that he goes to a team that'll take advantage of what he has to offer and that he goes bananas.  He's a great player and teammate and he deserves better than what the Giants can give him.

Of course, that opens a GIANT hole at RB that will then need to be filled in the draft, but it is what it is.  The guy deserves a better fanbase and a fresh start.

Quote from: MightyGiants on January 23, 2024, 01:08:48 PMIt's hard to say when or how rapid a decline will be.   If I were to guess, we could see the start of a slower decline within the next 5 years.  The owners are consistently putting profits ahead of the quality of their product and fan satisfaction.  I have yet to see a business model where such an approach was successful long-term.

There are no other business models to compare to the NFL, in my opinion.  It is entirely unique and a powerhouse beyond any other sports venture known to man.  I find it very hard to believe that the NFL is going to face any kind of substantial decline in the next 5 years- they're just getting started toward global markets and there's still, oddly enough for such a behemoth, a lot of growth to come in that area.

Moving to streaming being a bad business model?  hmmmmm I'm not sure that's a prediction that has ever held up, nor will it.  The older folks may grouse about it, but I'm pretty sure streaming and the Internet is the way we're going...

I have no idea how Cris Collinsworth is that high.  Everyone I've ever talked to hates the guy.  Doesn't even matter if he has good insight- just his voice/reactions are so irritating.

Win games and all this nonsense magically disappears.  Pretty straightforward what he's gotta do next year.  Win games.

Quote from: TONKA56 on January 09, 2024, 01:10:55 PMOther than Barkley, take a look at the running backs we've drafted since Ahmad Bradshaw. It ain't pretty. David Wilson probably being the best had to retire early due to health, and he was really more of a third down specialist by skillset.

It's not as easy as some folks on here would have you believe.  Just grab a random RB in rounds 4-6 and you're golden....  not quite.

I'd love to hang on to Tyrod, Simmons, and McKinney.  The rest, not so much.  I am 50-50 on Barkley.  If he can sign a reasonable, low cap hit deal (which wouldn't be the franchise tag), I want him back.  Mostly because it's not clear at all that we "hit" on Gray in the mid rounds, so if Barkley walks that's a glaring need to fill.

Couple things:

1.  This is the first I've seen Penix play.  Not impressed at all with how he handled pressure and how he actually threw the ball.  Not gonna lie, I kinda hate his throwing motion- way too wristy.
2.  Glad Michigan won, even though I hate UM- because this means Harbaugh is more likely to bolt and maybe Penn State will have better shots against UM in the future =)
3.  It's weird hearing them talk about Washington coming to the Big Ten next year.  Just....weird.
4.  I know it won't happen, but wouldn't it be nice if a Big Ten team winning the national championship would shut the yammering pieholes up about how the SEC is all about speed and the Big Ten is all about plodding ahead. Such a tired, useless trope in college sports yappers.

Moon's first year in the NFL- he was 28(!).  And he's still statistically dominant on the all-time lists...despite also playing when rules for passing were obviously much tougher.  But think about that...if this dude had played those 6 more years in the NFL, where would he be in the conversation?  And let's not even get into all of the unreal stereotypes around black QBs that this guy had to push through.

I say one of the most underrated because his name rarely, if ever, comes up when folks discuss best QBs of all time.  I think Moon and Brees are the two best throwers of the football that have ever played the game, personally.
