@LanceMedow
here's the break down:

-3 getting 2nd chances (Harbaugh, Morris, Quinn)
-3 former NFL players (Harbaugh, Mayo, Pierce)
-3 w/ offensive backgrounds
-5 w/ defensive backgrounds though Morris has worked on both sides
-5 1st timers
-8 that were hired to eventually be replaced

I sort of get why Belichick and Carroll weren't hired but how is Vrabel not working?  I wonder if some teams dont want to pay what a good coach would cost

What happens if Zay Flowers holds on to the ball for a fraction of a second and crosses the goal line?  What happens if the normally disciplined Ravens dont have all these stupid penalties that extended drives?  Its never 1 reason why a game is won or lost.  But the most nonsensical reason I've heard is Lamar sucks.  I agree 100% with the post above that Elway couldn't do it until he did it.  How old is Lamar?

Quote from: Brooklyn Dave on February 01, 2024, 06:50:54 AMWhat a terrible job by Schoen !!!  He was suppose to be high on the list and Schoen and his buddy Daboll are in Mobile while the Titans swoop in and hire Wilson . Please explain that one Mr Schoen !!!
I read this post to be a joke.

Quote from: DaveBrown74 on January 29, 2024, 04:59:22 PMGood news on Randle. Looks like his injury is on the lower end of the range of outcomes from a severity standpoint.

His prognosis is "weeks, not months."

While there is nothing good about any injury, his absence may have a couple of silver linings to it:

(1) Randle is a very physical, hard-nosed player. In the past, he has tended to be nursing minor ailments and general pain come the postseason. Maybe 3-5 weeks off in the middle of the season isn't the worst thing in the world for him. Obviously he needs his shoulder to heal, but this might give the rest of his body a bit of a breather, and he'll be healthier (beyond the shoulder) when he comes back and perhaps healthier for the playoffs than in past years.

(2) Randle's absence will give some other players a chance to step up. I'm thinking chiefly of Achiuwa and Hart, but there may be others as well.

Bottom line this is very good news compared to concerns I had all day yesterday. I was worried he might be out for the season or at least for multiple months. Randle is a guy we absolutely need if we're to have a shot of pulling an upset against a top team in a playoff series.
Wasnt that long away that virtually everyone wanted him traded.

Big Blue Huddle / Re: Red Flags on new OL Coach?
January 23, 2024, 02:42:47 PM
Quote from: MightyGiants on January 23, 2024, 01:21:04 PMNeil,

I listened/read both.  I don't think they are incompatible.  Our new coach has been objectively successful, and some players like him.  That doesn't preclude the possibility that he rubs other players the wrong way.

As I mentioned earlier, my biggest concern is the Raiders let him go.  Look at how Atlanta is guarding their quality offensive line coach even though they haven't hired a new head coach.

That all said, I am still hopeful about our new hire.
I thought Atlanta changed and allowed the OL coach to be interviewed but Bricillo had already been hired.  My question is which of the 2 is more highly regarded.  Second question is has anything been written about which of the 2 would have been the choice if both were available

Big Blue Huddle / Re: Where Schoen went wrong
January 20, 2024, 09:27:28 AM
I keep coming back to the point that the oddsmakers set the win line before the start of the season at 6 1/2 which was bet up to 7 1/2 pretty quickly.  Somebody knew the team wasn't that good but fans in general and especially fans that frequent this site and other thought we were a double digit win team & closed the gap on the Cowboys and Eagles.  I dont think Schoen was all in but he definitely wasnt on rebuilding mode last year and i dont think all out rebuilding was possible after winning a playoff game.  I dont think Schoen made many major mistakes snd I do think much of the criticism is Monday morning QB as mentioned above

Big Blue Huddle / Re: Are the Chiefs done with Toney

He has the capacity to be a very good punt returner.  Unless there's an attitude issue there or other problems similar to what he had here, I think they keep him and hope he grows up

Big Blue Huddle / Shurmur Chose Bettcher?
January 13, 2024, 08:32:24 PM
I know Bettcher is regarded as a terrible DC by most Giants and virtually everyone was happy to see him leave.  What I had forgotten was that Spagnola was fired by Shurmur when he hired Bettcher.  Read that Spags had hired Shurmur as OC when Spags became a HC.  The only explanation for letting a quality DC go for a less than quality DC is the style of defense the HC wanted to run, maybe a 3-4 instead of the 4-3.  But, I have no recollection of what happened.

Truthfully, this has nothing to do with Wink.  But, another example of how the Giants let go of an outstanding coordinator.  And, for Bettcher?

I have peacock because there was an offer of $20 a year and I like watching the Premier league.  I think I read that Oppenheimer will be on peacock.  But, if I didnt have the station, I would not buy it for an NFl playoff game.  They should not be able to get away with it.  If they do, I can see the Super Bowl on pay for view for major bucks

Do people think that its a good idea to change HCs and OCs every 2 years?

Quote from: Doc16LT56 on January 12, 2024, 06:57:33 PMThis is why I worry about Daboll's temperament long-term. Winning solves everything until it doesn't. Then you're left with a chicken and egg scenario. Did the losing cause the dysfunction? Or, did the dysfunction cause the losing? Bottom line, you need a true CEO head coach if you want to sustain success.
What type of CEO would you call Belichick?

Big Blue Huddle / Re: Giants Hire Bricillo as OL Coach
January 11, 2024, 09:49:52 PM
Was Bricillo under contract with the Raiders or was he free to sign with the Giants.  I'm assuming he was not under contract.  A quick look at the Patrick Graham - scroll down- had a quote by Ian Rappaport that the Raiders blocked teams because they want their new coach to make the decision about who to keep.  Hopefully, the Raiders didn't have the chance to block Bricillo.

Quote from: DaveBrown74 on January 11, 2024, 03:51:30 PMAt Mavs tonight. Nice break to catch them without Luca.
I was wondering why the Knicks were favored.

I'm of the opinion that they might be able to get Murray without giving up everything.  I think Fournier's expiring contract has value.  The flip side is that the unprotected picks might not have too much value and might revert to 2nd round picks.  But, to Murray. I think its a pipe dream to expect Towns or some other star to come. The addition of OG elevated them from being probable play in team to a definite top 6. Adding Murray, based on what I've read, elevates them to probably below the Celtics, on a par with the Bucks and probably ahead of the 76ers.  That presumes decent health and not a bad outcome this year. And, they might get lucky in the playoffs

I think other factors need to be added at least in Daboll's case.  First, he was a first year coach working for a first year GM.  Second, I am convinced we have a meddling owner even if he's not as bad as he was; to me Mara going public with his thinking about personnel is not helpful even if the pressure is indirect.  Third, a coach working in NY has a different job, in lots of areas, than a coach working in Green Bay.  Last, he inherited a xxxx show of a roster with not available money. This is true for both he and Schoen and should not be ignored.

Thats still a style question.  I'm asking how the defenses ranked .
