Quote from: Ed Vette on March 08, 2024, 09:40:04 AMI'd give up a third round pick if I wasn't drafting a QB this year. I haven't seen enough of him to have an opinion on whether or not he can become that elite Franchise QB, although I'm inclined to say no because if the Bears are moving on to draft a Calib Williams, that's a red flag.
Ed, I understand your POV.

I will simply counter with; while I'm not a scout I've seen a lot of him and I see a lot of talent with the proper support....definitely better and more durable than DJ.

Also, I wouldn't put much stock in Chicago's decisions, they've been worse than us for many years now.

Quote from: Bob In PA on March 08, 2024, 09:21:24 AMAndrew: It sounds like a smart idea, but I don't believe the Giants want him at any cost.

I say this because I'm personally not certain he would be a good fit to the current offense.

Unless they're playing their cards close to the vest, right now it doesn't look like Schoen has any interest.

Bob
Thanks Bob. I agree not at any cost. But one of their 2 second round picks could make sense.

Using my idea above, if we traded down 2-4 spots in the 1st round, we'd still have a top 10 pick, plus maybe ANOTHER SECOND and a third from the trade down....we would have plenty of resources to build around him.

On Justin Fields and build around him?

Assuming he's that guy, the Giants could trade down 2-4 spots in the 1st, garner several picks, and then spend their 2nd on Fields who would push/replace DJ next season.

I vote for a trade down and a QB on day 2 or 3

I don't think QB is in the cards until '25, unless they find a sleeper on day 2 or 3.

Building from the LOS is this years agenda IMO.

Don't agree nor disagree with it...JMO

Could be a $$$ play.

Quote from: madbadger on March 03, 2024, 02:45:53 PMI hope not. At six the odds are pretty good we'll get an elite player at a position of need. I get why you would want more picks but I don't know how you could pass on Alt, Nabors or Odunze at 6. All there are day one starters and I've seen enough of Neal's slow feet to know he isn't the answer at RT. If they take Alt they can kick Neal inside and draft another guard in the third round if they don't take one in free agency.
We can move down 2-3 spots and still stockpile picks. I'm pretty certain an elite player will be there at 8 or 9. It wouldn't hurt my feelings if it were a CB, LB or DL if not an OL.

This is why I believe trading down from 6 and stockpiling is a better move than trading up.

Our back 7?

Will we be playing a lot more zone?

Does this move Thibs to a more traditional DE?

I'm reading that he won't blitz nearly as much and that he's more of a 4-3 DC.

Educate me fellow fanatics.

Quote from: Stringer Bell on February 24, 2024, 10:42:41 AMWhy is everyone assuming anyone was even interested in trading valuable draft assets for an oft-injured, declining, soon-to-be FA who plays one of the most replaceable positions?

Seems like a faulty assumption, to me.
It may be...but I'm of the belief that Mara was also instrumental in DJ's extension....so...by extension...I turn to him when discussing Saquon.

I have no problem being wrong, it's only an opinion.

Anyone who reads me knows I'm not a DJ apologist and in fact, still not sold on him.

HOWEVER: sometimes stats really are over produced. I mean how do you really TRULY measure this type of stat?!

Mighty for example, makes a great point about blown assignments and more that one rusher coming free at the same time.

DJ has plenty on his plate reading coverages and getting rid of the ball on time, particularly seeing and delivering on deep routes.

Statisticians these days IMHO are going a bit over board with all these stats within the stats (if you will).

I think the Chiefs (look at their scoring offense this season vs the recent past) secret sauce was balancing their resources by adding more to the defense knowing they had enough on offense, allowing Spags to work his magic.

I would go deep into OL & DB in this years draft.

It may not make sense on the surface, but IMHO this roster needs a reset.

My best guess on not trading Saquon at that time:

Two words - John Mara
