Quote from: MightyGiants on October 02, 2023, 01:50:44 PMUntil I see the O-line block like an NFL-caliber offensive line for more than just one half a game against a non-playoff team, the O-line will always be a concern until proven otherwise.

The O-line was a concern last year, so they got the ball out of Jones' hand quickly. Tonight sets up well for that, which should take the pressure off the O-line. My biggest concern in the pass rush is actually not the D-line of Seattle against the O-line of the Giants. We are about to find out if any of our RBs can pick up a blitz......or not. Jones saved them a few times against Arizona with his legs. They need to do better. If a dope like me can pick up on that during the game you can bet Carroll saw it and has some plans to exploit that.

Big Blue Huddle / Re: One Thing Kafka Needs To Do

I hope Kafka dumbs it down for Jones against what is the NFL's worst pass Defense so far that barely has a pass rush.

Teams have been picking the Seahawks apart in the short areas. So, let Daniel Jones have quick, easy throws. Since that is where he was successful last year he should be comfortable with that game plan. Don't overthink it. Seattle played 3 teams and all three QBs threw for over 300 yards and for the most part it is the 3rd-down RBs and possession receivers who had the big receiving numbers.

Don't try to run it. That plays to their strength. They are EXCELLENT against the run. Let Danny Dimes make local calls this week. Save the long distance calls for Miami.

Big Blue Huddle / Re: Love vs Slayton
October 02, 2023, 02:55:24 PM
The annual "why do we still have Slayton" topic. It only took 3 weeks this season.

All he does is stay healthy and catch passes, something the rest of the Giants receivers have struggled with over the entire time Slayton has been here.

Other than Hodgins, Slayton is the only WR on the team who has earned his spot, which is to be a capable backup, WR4.

There were some missed tackles that resulted in huge gains and two plays that should have been interceptions in the first half. Those missed opportunities resulted in points.

I thought the O-Line played well enough and actually thought the left side, to my surprise, outplayed the guys on the right.

So, if the Giants O-line had been better it still would have been a tall order to overcome a 30 point effort from the 49ers in their home stadium.

I thought the Giants would be 1-2 at this point in the season. They could easily have been 0-3. The last 6 quarters were much better than the first 6 quarters and that was with guys hurt. I think the Giants are figuring out how to use all of their new weapons on Offense. I see more upside than downside going forward. Continuous improvement. I'll take that.

Late Round RBs - here's a few that can be had in the last round in some leagues,
- Raheem Mostert. He is in a time share but is expected to be the starter. When he's healthy he is fantastic. Unfortunately staying healthy has been his issue, and it is the same with his backfield mate Jeff Wilson Jr. When one gets hurt, the other is going to be valuable.....until HE gets hurt.  :'(

- D'Onte Foreman. No one knows what the timeshare in Chicago is going to look like but Herbert is expected to get most of the work. Foreman may still get 12-15 touches per game and could be the preferred goal line back. If Herbert goes down, b=he showed in Carolina that he can handle a bigger work load.

- Rashad Penny. There are a lot of mouths to feed in that Philadelphia backfield, but I expect Penny to emerge as the 1st and 2nd down back. In mock drafts I've gotten him as late as the 12th round in 12 team leagues.

- Zach Moss and Deonte Jackson. One of these guys is going to be the beneficiary of the Jonathan Taylor mess in Indianapolis. With a rookie QB it makes sense that they will want to run the ball as much as they can while Richardson learns how to be productive in this Offense.

Quote from: LennG on April 10, 2023, 04:57:12 PMI haven't been on BBH for a while, but I got an email from Dan and a call from Ed today about Jim and his health. I would say Jim and I were very good friends and this news really disturbed me. I speak with Jim all the time, about once a month, and last time he sounded well and was in good spirits.
I kind of knew something was up when he didn't send me a Passover greeting and when I sent him an Easter greeting it bounced back to me.
Anyway, I just called his home and spoke with his daughter. As said Jim is
terminal and expected to pass away any time now. He is at home but not conscience and it is just a matter of time. He had skin cancer problems but was OK until a couple of weeks ago when it seemed to have spread to his brain and he went downhill very quickly. His daughter said she will notify me when he does pass.

Just unbelievably horrible news. There wasn't a nicer man around and as huge a Giants fan as anyone could ever hope to be.

Very sad news. Jim was a tremendous help when my daughter was seeking schools to study meteorology. Prayers for peace going to our pregame weather forecaster.

One day you are young and full of life and then before you know it you are driving down the road and turning down the radio so you can see better.

The Front Porch / Re: Top 10 Christmas Movies

While it was only a short, I'm surprised there is no love for "A Charlie Brown Christmas" in this group. Rarely played on TV anymore because it is about 27 minutes long. (There were fewer commercials back in those days.)

Put me in the "Die Hard is not a Christmas movie" column.

Home Alone has arguably the funniest 10 1/2 minute stretch of any movie I've seen, Christmas or otherwise. Laugh out load funny physical humor.

THOUGHTS TO GET YOU THROUGH ANY CRISIS

All things being equal, fat people use more soap.

Whether you think you can, or you think you can't, you'll be right.

Before any bank will lend you money, you must first prove you don't need it.

A bird in the hand is better than two in the tree above your new hat.

Where there's a will, I want to be in it.

The grass may be greener on the other side of the fence, but it can be a bitch to mow.

Some people like rain, others like snow, most like sunshine. Sleet sucks.

A fool and his money were lucky to get together in the first place.

Two wrongs don't make a right, but three rights make a left.

If the shoe fits, see if there's another one just like it.

Research causes cancer in mice.

The lesser of two evils is still evil.

My daughter lives in North Dakota, so we will be meeting up for Christmas in Minneapolis with some Giants on Christmas Eve. No, I don't expect anyone from BBH to join us at US Bank Field.  :greetings:

Regrettably I am too far away in Birmingham. I grew up hunting in deer in Monmouth County, shooting ducks in Barnegat Bay, and fishing just about everywhere. As I've grown older my tastes turned more to golf and fishing, and now just fishing. My mom lives in Wyoming on the south fork of the Shoshone River, where if you can't catch a trout then you just aren't trying. The picture in my avatar is from there. I enjoy my time alone in the wilderness where I can be away from everybody and everything and be reminded of how small I am in this grand design.

Thanks for the offer, and you are welcome to come back to Georgia and Alabama and shoot all the hogs you want. Lord knows we have far too many in some areas.

The only thing that is more overproduced than the Superbowl is the Superbowl halftime show.
