Quote from: Jolly Blue Giant on January 04, 2024, 02:05:25 PMI never gave Pennix much thought, but I watched the game the other night, and I was really impressed. He has a cannon for an arm, and his accuracy was pinpoint accurate. He can throw a 50 yd rope without throwing it a hundred feet in the air. His throws were smooth and effortless and reminded me of Warren Moon in his prime...and that's a huge compliment. Moon might be the least appreciated QB in history. Tremendous talent

Couldn't agree more.  I think Moon is one of the most underrated players in NFL history.

Quote from: Stringer Bell on January 03, 2024, 05:52:59 PMUnderstand your point and agree these guys lie all the time. That said, I follow the Cards closely (my son's favorite team), and I'm 100% confident Gannon is telling the truth here.

The franchise is all-in in terms of building around Kyler. His contract is actually pretty team friendly:

https://www.spotrac.com/nfl/arizona-cardinals/kyler-murray-29036

They love Conner, and the prospect of adding MHJ to that offense, while continuing to add pieces to Gannon's defense, has many believing the team is close to competing.

Agreed.  Kinda funny Kyler is in this situation, considering how he originally came to the Cardinals when they let Rosen loose so soon after he was drafted high....in order to draft another QB high.

Quote from: DaveBrown74 on January 02, 2024, 03:37:50 PMAssume Barkley had had much better luck/results on the health front. What RB (present day or past) do you think his career might have resembled?

I don't mean precise stats or anything annoyingly pedantic like that but just off the top of your head what names come to mind? I'm curious how great a career you think he would have had.

Sure...Marshall Faulk, Tiki Barber, Thurman Thomas....  name any great all-purpose RB and I definitely think he would have stacked up if he had stayed healthy.

Quote from: Ed Vette on January 02, 2024, 02:53:43 PMDoes anyone think Barkley has the same athletic ability and speed he had his rookie season?

Definitely not, sadly.  Injuries took a generational type talent and prospect and made him just a very good RB.  If he had stayed healthy he'd still be breaking records.

Penn State has got to have a real QB competition this spring.  The more I watch Allar, the more I just don't see it happening.  He doesn't process fast enough.  Our WRs are trash (and we may be getting more help there soon), but the difference in "juice" between Allar and his backup is tangible.  I described Allar today as "Eli Manning without the talent"....ie, he gives the same aw shucks vibes but just hasn't shown game to get past that.

I hated that our defense had 3 key starters out today and a gimpy Carter for much of the game.  That would have been one hell of a matchup with that Ole Miss offense.  Ah well.

I guess my question is- how does an organization with as much $$$ and resources as the New York Giants not do everything in their power to correctly diagnose issues like this from the start?  Especially when you consider the extreme INVESTMENT they make in their players- not just financially but in draft capital, time, coaching, etc.

I just don't get it.  Can someone please explain to me how you can be in the business of players playing a violent sport and NOT doing everything in the business' power to diagnose and keep those players as healthy as possible???  If there is anywhere an NFL team should overinvest $$$ and resources it should be in the health and welfare of their players.

Yeah this has been an absolutely crazy year for injuries.  Our #1 seed in the playoffs just got knocked out because he had been riding Tyreek Hill and Keenan Allen all year.

Just checking in on folks to see how you've been doing, if you made the playoffs, how your teams are looking.

The team I had above is the 4 seed in the playoffs and I just had a MONSTER week to move on.  Since the start of the year I made a couple good moves- 1) picked up Kyren Williams, 2) after the first 6 games or so I traded Derrick Henry for Deebo, 3) I picked up Trey McBride when Waller went out, 4) I picked up a serviceable QB in Jordan Love early.

The one move I regret is I traded Tony Pollard for Justin Herbert a few weeks back and then Herbert stunk it up then went on IR so I'm back to Jordan Love.

In the BBH league, I am hanging on by a thread of potentially winning this week (Latex Salesmen is my team)- if I win this week I get JT and Josh Jacobs back next week so I might be able to make some noise!!!

And in the last league I'm in I just got McCaffrey'd out of the playoffs.  Ah well, can't win em all. :ok:

Quote from: Brooklyn Dave on December 13, 2023, 09:04:41 PMLetting Sequon Barkley walk might be stupidest move by the Giants other than Allie Sherman trading Sam Huff to the Redskins for Dick James , Andy Stynchula and a draft pick in 1964, ( i have been following the Giants since 1950)

Barkley is the heart and sole of the team. He is the captain , loved and respected by all his teamates. He leaves it all out on the fiend . He has been nominated for NFL person of the year.

Pay him a very decent salary , somewhat below Christain McCaffery and keep him on the team. Whoever the QB is next year , they will be much better with Barkley as his running back and receiver.

I know that I am in the minority here , but I could not care less. KEEP HIM  !!!

I don't know if you're in the minority, actually (and surprisingly, at least to me).  It looks like about 80% of the respondents above want Barkley back next year one way or another.

If Gray had stepped up and looked like a solution at RB, I'd say let him walk.  Since Gray hasn't, I voted for the 2nd option.  It would be nice to not go into this draft with yet another gaping hole to fill and it should not cost very much per year to get it done.

Part of me wonders, with all his undeniable talent and leadership, just how "catchable" a ball he throws.  I think that matters when you have borderline talent at the WR position- and especially talent that seems to "churn", ie, it seems like he's always working with new WRs ever since Tyreek left.  Outside of Kelce he has no go-to guy, although Rashee Rice may develop into more of that role.

But to answer the question- they'll be fine come playoff time.  Mahomes is just that good they will undoubtedly be in the mix to return to the Super Bowl.

I said it in another thread but the guy strikes me as a tough guy clown.  If he wants to mix it up with players, put some pads on and try it, tough guy.  I hope he gets suspended.

Just to revisit- what happened with putting Bama into the playoffs was an absolute disgrace.  Here's a good read with a lot of good reasons why:  https://www.espn.com/college-football/story/_/id/39033710/cfp-anger-index-unpacking-outrage-florida-state-snub-2023

Also, I'll put this out there- to the argument that Bama is a better team than FSU or has a better chance of winning.  1) I personally think that when you wade FULLY into speculation like that instead of facts (as in, they have a loss and just barely beat 6-6 Auburn) then it's a sign of a weak argument, and 2)  even if I agreed they were the better team in January than FSU- it DOES NOT or SHOULD NOT matter.  There are plenty of subjective ways over the years to make this exact same case for a lot of teams that didn't make the playoffs....and it shouldn't matter.  Results on the field.  Win football games.  Win your conference.

What clearly drove this debacle is a yearning $$$$ need to make sure the SEC was represented in the playoff.  That's it.  End of story.  It shouldn't surprise any of us, but it's still repugnant.

I love when bullies get bullied...especially at home.

And yeah that "Big Dom" guy is a clown- either put on some pads or get the hell away from the players, tough guy.

Quote from: sooners56 on December 03, 2023, 12:04:01 PMTexas is in over Bama. Both conference champs. Both 12-1 but Texas beat Bama in Alabama. Texas should be in. If not, why play the game 🤷🏼♂️

Agreed.  It should be obvious that a head-to-head win gets the winning team in ahead of the other.  Every other opinion around Texas and Bama is subjective (such as recency, when they played, who would win tomorrow, yadda yadda)....while the scoreboard when they actually played one another is as plain and objective as can be.  With that kind of logic, a team could lose their first three games and then completely and dominantly win out and all of a sudden they deserve to be in the playoff?  Nope.
