Quote from: Woody on November 20, 2023, 03:40:56 PMa better question is ....IF Tyrod comes back who plays ...Tommy or Tyrod ?

depends how he finishes the season, but right now, tommy. you know what you have in tyrod. a serviceable injury prone backup who is at the tail end of his career. tommy is an up and coming guy who, if he plays anything like he did yesterday is in serious consideration to take over qb1 next year if jones continues to struggle. lot of if's here. tyrod costs 5 million a year. tommy costs a bottle of wine at a fancy steak house.

Beating the commanders isnt exactly a career defining thing, but the kid looks decent. he definitely doesnt have the panic factor. he took his lumps and just kept getting better. he made some REALLY nice touch throws. that throw to barkley in the endzone was beautiful. you actually cant do it any better. he hit slayton in the seam over a bunch of defenders. perfectly. again, its the commanders and its one game. but hey.. if he continues this type of play, especially against better teams, he is absolutely qb2 next year, and if jones comes back and stinks it up, who knows. maybe we have a hometown hero.

Big Blue Huddle / Re: How franchise QBs were acquired

Quote from: MightyGiants on November 20, 2023, 10:54:11 AMI used the current NFL.com QB rankings to create the list and went 16 QBs deep (since no list is absolute).  In light of all the talk about QBs in the next draft, I thought it would be interesting to see how the best were acquired.

Jalen Hurts*  2020 / Round: 2 / Pick: 53
Patrick Mahomes*  2017 / Round: 1 / Pick: 10
Tua Tagovailoa 2020 / Round: 1 / Pick: 5  (possible *)
Lamar Jackson*    2018 / Round: 1 / Pick: 32
Josh Allen 2018 / Round: 1 / Pick: 7 (possible *)
Dak Prescot*  2016 / Round: 4 / Pick: 135
C.J. Stroud  2023 / Round: 1 / Pick: 2
Trevor Lawrence  2021 / Round: 1 / Pick: 1
Joe Burrow  2020 / Round: 1 / Pick: 1
Jared Goff  Thow in during the Stafford trade, originally 2016 / Round: 1 / Pick: 1
Justin Herbert  2020 / Round: 1 / Pick: 6
Sam Howell 2022 / Round: 5 / Pick: 144
Geno Smith  Street FA signing originally 2013 / Round: 2 / Pick: 39 (signed into a *)
Baker Mayfield 2018 / Round: 1 / Pick: 1
Derek Carr Street FA signing originally    2014 / Round: 2 / Pick: 36
Brock Purdy* 2022 / Round: 7 / Pick: 262

* Drafted into a QB-friendly environment

so we dont need the 1st overall pick?

Quote from: MightyGiants on November 20, 2023, 11:22:21 AMKayvon becomes 9th player in NFL history with 10+ sacks in teams first 11 games at age 22 or younger.

Kayvon (2023)
Garrett (2018)
Bosa (2017)
Ngakoue (2017)
Von (2011)
JPP (2011)
Julius Peppers (2002)
Derrick Thomas (1989)
Leslie O'Neal (1986)

Those are HOF/borderline HOF players. very nice to see him on this list. lets hope he can do it for the next 10 years like some of these guys did.

Great to see. he had leno on skates yesterday. nice to see his inside move improving. he can be a dangerous weapon for us. i feel like he's still just scratching the surface. they need to get a bookend guy on the other side and you will really start to see crazy numbers. i'd like to see him turn it up a little against the run as i think he can still improve there. he also does still get held like crazy with no calls. i dont mean to nitpick on the little things, but a lot of his sacks earlier this year were clean up sacks. but hey, cant argue with this type of production. been a long time since we had a guy with double digit sacks. lets hope he continues to develop. hes got top 5 at his position potential.

Quote from: MightyGiants on November 20, 2023, 11:19:00 AMSeems like he remembers the Commanders opted to draft Emmanuel Forbes at 16 instead of him

https://x.com/BallsDeepInYm3/status/1726354489731686762?s=20

he needs to simmer down a bit. your a rookie on a 3 win team who got beat for a td yesterday. your play has been rather pedestrian lately. when you put up 3 picks against them say whatever you want. but this is immature and not really a good look for him. theres a bunch of other teams that could have taken him as well.

Quote from: BluesCruz on November 20, 2023, 09:26:11 AMi think we have our QB

if tommy continues like this. draft the best available talent   give jones a seat on the bench
as #2

lets see how he develops, and plays against top tier teams. also- if the skins dont turn it over 6 times yesterday they probably win that game. i like what im seeing from him so far. but he looks pretty good for an UDFA in his second game. he has what, 6 td in 3 games now? not bad kid.

Quote from: Fletch on November 19, 2023, 11:42:53 PMBill B already proved that no matter how good a coach you are players win games. He aid that himself. Obviously good coaching has something to withit ,but what is Daboll Bill Parcels or something? What is sacred about Daboll. He is coaching a last place team and face facts -- this team is not going to do jack xxxx against the Eagles and had embarrassing losses to the Cowboys this year.

Your numbers are circumstantial evidence. QBs don't just come to you. Look at the Detriot Lions. They went and got a cast off and bunch of picks.

much rather go this route honestly. goff is playing great for them. sometimes a change of scenery works wonders for guys. i have a feeling the same will happen to jones. maybe not quite as successful, but he will finish his career somewhere else having more success than he did here.

Quote from: Jclayton92 on November 19, 2023, 11:05:12 PMI'm much more conformable with the Giants winning a few games and their qb coming to them naturally than tanking or trading picks. The teams that have actually hit on qbs recently were all playoff teams the ÿear before the draft in the Eagles, Bill's, and Chiefs. With Burrow, Lawrence, and Herbet being the exceptions but still. The odds are better if you let the Qb come to you whether it's whenever you pick in the 1st or in the 2nd-7th than reaching into the top. Since 2010 41 qbs have been taken in the 1st round and only 1 of those qbs has a super bowl win. Only 11 of those 41 Qbs were signed to a 2nd contract.

that is a great point. and one people forget ALL the time. nothing and no one is guaranteed. caleb will probably have a solid career but it is what it is. this team has fundamental issues, and until we figure it out it really doesnt matter who the qb is. i've asked this question a bunch of times and i never get an answer. lets say we had caleb williams THIS year. how many more games would we have won?

Quote from: Stringer Bell on November 19, 2023, 07:18:09 PMHow fitting for this team, who was sleep walking the entire first half of the season, to win a few worthless games to blow up their chance of drafting a QB or generational WR.

All for what, to make Daboll look better? To give a handful of fans false hope that Devito is anything more than a backup QB?

Should be no surprise, I guess, as the Giants long have been great at blowing opportunities.

So now we go from drafting Maye to drafting an edge (figure 2 QBs, Harrison, Fashanu go 1-4). Don't get me wrong, I like Latu and feel we need to replace Ojulari, but our D is already solid and the drop off from taking a franchise QB to taking an edge is astronomical.

our D is not solid. thibs needs a bookend guy, and losing williams has hurt us. latu is a beast and would be a tremendous upgrade to both stopping the run which we suck at, and rushing the passer which we suck at most of the time. its every bit as needed as upgrading the oline.

Quote from: DaveBrown74 on November 19, 2023, 07:07:08 PMWe were second last week, but this big win, which gets us to 3-8 on the season, now puts us at 5th overall if we were drafting today.

At 5th overall you can't even get Harrison Jr.

https://www.tankathon.com/nfl

Pats fans are rejoicing tonight.

It is what it is. i'd love a higher pick, and we will probably still fall at some point. but dude i love winning. i still subject myself to the torture that is being a giants fan. and im tired of being pissed every weekend. sure its a "meaningless" win, but i am so tired of losing i'll take it. you gotta figure half these guys are gonna be back next year. we need to remember/learn how to win. plus dabolls seat is that much hotter if we win 2 games all year. it is what it is. jalen hurts was a 2nd round pick. dexter lawrence was #17. it's not like we cant get solid talent at #5. maybe not the guy we really want, but still good players nonetheless. its a really deep draft at a bunch of positions of need for us. just take the BPA and lets gooooooooo

Quote from: LennG on November 17, 2023, 04:30:22 PMAll I've been ready lately is that there is no way the Giants re-sign him again. WHY?
Because he is mouthing off because he wants to win that badly? I fully understand that you need to keep things in-house, but McKinney was a bright light until he got hurt. Can a player. all of a sudden, go from 'star' to dud?
Why are some so anxious to move on from him?

Honestly, apart from his one good season he's been average at best. i dont see him making many game changing plays. for the money he's probably going to get, we can get 2 guys that can fill the void. i wouldnt say he's more than a top 20 safety in the league.

Quote from: Bob In PA on November 14, 2023, 10:08:07 AMI can't stand Ralph. I'm writing because I AGREE with his speculation/argument/thesis on Jones.

The goal IMO should be to take the best player available with Pick 2.

I said the same thing when they drafted Barkley (still one of the Top 20 players in the NFL).

To me, right now, the best player available is Harrison, Jr., offense, NOT one of the QB's.

That could change, but that's the situation as I see it today, and I believe the Giants agree.

Bob

I agree. is MHJ a better wr prospect than any of the qb's as qb prospects? i think so.

Quote from: Dgoodmantrublu on November 13, 2023, 10:13:14 PMThe entire top brass went to scout Caleb and Penix. They have been to North Carolina to scout Drake Maye 5 times. North Carolina doesn't have a lot of other top of other prospects. Is is obvious what is up.

Is there any evidence they were ONLY there to scout qb's?

Quote from: GloryDays on November 14, 2023, 03:52:22 PMGet Baldy, if he is willing.. he probably makes a good O coach too.

He seems to have a soft spot for the giants too. good analyst, who knows how good he would be as a coach though.
