Had to end sometime.  Curious that it was against that crappy Columbus team but hockey is funny like that sometimes.  Plus it feels like they just played 6 games in 8 days or something insane like that so a couple days off should do them well.  Start the next winning streak on Wednesday and get a bit of revenge.

They certainly should have sold off everybody at the deadline.  I'm not really sure why they didn't to be honest.  I might GUESS if they had held out hope of re-signing them after the season you don't want piss them off on the way out...maybe? Maybe the offers they got were so low it wasn't worth tanking the season?  Although I'd say there's not much I wouldn't have taken at that point in the season.

Or maybe they foolishly thought they could climb back into the playoff picture somehow cause the NFC was so terrible? I would love to get a private moment with Schoen to ask him about that.  It has been curious to me from the minute the deadline passed until now.

Daaaaamn that sucks for Wheeler.  It looked nasty when it happened and turns out it's just as bad as it seems.  That's rough.

Even when he hasn't been suspended or hurt (Which is basically his entire Browns career) he has been a shell of his former self before the dozens of sexual assault allegations surfaced.  I don't need people like that on my team.  Talented or otherwise.  I'd rather stink with Daniel Jones than win with Deshaun Watson.

Blake Wheeler's injury looked bad.  Hopefully it's not as bad as it seemed but losing another top 6 forward isn't great.

The game was fun though!  The last 2 periods anyway.  Looked like they were asleep for a period and a half and then exploded for 4 goals in 4 mins to completely swing the game.  Love Kreider getting a hatty.  Quick was excellent when they needed him to be.  Perhaps a bit of a let down after they scored so many times in front of him but overall solid win.  Team is still rolling.  Not much to complain about during a 6 game winning streak.

When you have a prospect like Caleb Williams available you should demand a haul.  Somebody may well pay it.  I don't want the Giants to do it.  I love Williams.  He's one of my favorite QBs coming out in recent memory.  But there's no way a team like the Giants can pay that type of price for him.  They're not good enough.

I decided midway through the game to root for the Chiefs specifically for Spags.  Had been pretty neutral before then.  But seeing that guy on the sidelines and remembering what he did to those undefeated Patriots made me smile.  I'll root for that guy for as long as he's doing it...unless he's doing it against the giants.

Quote from: T200 on February 12, 2024, 09:09:48 AMIt doesn't bother me. I just look forward to the day when Superbowl Monday is a national holiday and I don't have to go in to work.

But... in three years it won't matter to me because I'll be fully retired!  <:-P

Game should be played on Saturday since they get 2 weeks between the conference championship and super bowl now.  Problem solved.  Of course...they will never do it because it makes entirely too much sense.

Quote from: BluesCruz on February 12, 2024, 09:15:24 AMTommy DeVito College Career-

Tommy DeVito, who started 15 games over his four years at Syracuse, started in each of Illinois' 13 games during the 2022 season. His 69.6 completion percentage his last season was good for fourth in the nation, tops in the Big Ten and the best in school history.Dec 12, 2023

Daniel Jones college career-

Daniel Jones was 22-37-1 in his career at Duke
He had average individual stats for a backwater Football College- Duke

Its kind of hard to see what Gettleman saw in Jones

Daniel Jones is certainly the most controversial draft pick of the Gettleman era. Few if any saw him as worthy of the No. 6 pick, and questions remain about what his ceiling is.

Reality Bites

Devito isn't good.  Nor was he successful.  He played himself to the bench the minute Taylor was healthy.

Quote from: BluesCruz on February 09, 2024, 09:16:47 AMWe will never know.  We will continue to watch our Robotic 45 million dollar QB.  Most of you approve of that and will suffer for 18 miserable weeks as punishment

Devito was worse.  Is worse.  And will be worse.  And Jones ain't good.  To be very clear.  If the Giants do not draft a QB this season and those guys are 1 and 2 on the depth chart they will be picking in the top 5 again next season.  Possibly top 3.  Maybe then they'll find a real QB, since they don't currently as things stand now employ one.

Quote from: GloryDays on February 08, 2024, 02:15:35 PMWe wont forget that painful loss against the Jets with the pathetic play-calling that led to it.

Not to get off on a rant here but...They should have won!  If they go for it on 4th and 1 they win.  If they had a kicker with 2 working legs they win. If the defense can keep Zach Wilson from completing two consecutive deep balls they win!  None of that was Kafka's fault.  Devito had 0 reps in his NFL life prior to that game.  Two QBs go down against a bad team that can't score points.  The ONLY way they were going to lose that game (or so we thought) was if Devito did something stupid.  So they didn't let him.

They won 3 straight games with Tommy Devito. They could give him a statue at the stadium for that achievement.

Big Blue Huddle / Re: Giants won't Tag Barkley

Quote from: MightyGiants on February 08, 2024, 11:13:49 AMThere was an article at 33rd team that said the one free agent the Giants need to keep is Barkley.  I don't agree with their pick or justification

RB SAQUON BARKLEY
Paying top-flight money for a running back in free agency is usually a bad idea, especially for one with as many injuries and touches as Saquon Barkley. But the New York Giants aren't in a position to lose their best skill player.

They have arguably the NFL's worst group of receivers and hardly got any production from their tight ends. Another one-year deal makes sense for Barkley, as the Giants try to rebuild their offense this offseason.

https://www.the33rdteam.com/1-free-agent-each-nfl-team-must-re-sign-in-2024-offseason/

I mean I'm not sure I agree that a 1 year deal would make sense for Barkley. Would make more sense for the Giants I would say.

3 wins in a row going back before the break and 3 starts from Quick.  Seems they are riding the hot hand at least for now.  Shesty does need to take a bit of a break to figure out what's going on but they will need him soon.  Last thing they need right now is to run Quick into the ground.

Quote from: MightyGiants on February 07, 2024, 12:22:02 PMWhat are your question makers with McCarthy?

As for Daniel Jones, pop quiz:  Who has more playoff wins Daniel Jones or Justin Herbert?

Who has more TD/Yards/ higher QBR/ passer rating....basically every metric?  If you're saying right now the Chargers would trade Herbert for Jones... I would simply say I disagree and leave it at that.

From what I've seen which is admittedly not his entire body of work yet but what I've seen so far has not jumped out to me as anything special.  What I mean is that he's solid in most areas but not exceptional in any.  He's not Jayden Daniels running the ball.  He's not Caleb Williams improvising and on the run.  He doesn't have en elite trait as far as I can tell.

Michigan was a run first team and they found themselves in a lot of blowouts so I am aware that he has gotten far less snaps and far less opportunities to showcase his skillset late in games when it matters most.  But what I don't know is if they were a run heavy team because they wanted to be or because they had to be.  I'm not sure we'll get an honest answer to that ever.  Roman Wilson looked really good at the senior bowl so I'm not sure the WRs were the problem.  The OL was clearly good since they were running the ball so well.  So I guess my grade right now is incomplete but if that's my current grade I'm not using a top 10 pick on that.

But I don't get to talk to the guy, I don't get to see his workouts, I don't get to sit down and break down plays with him and get to know him.  And so if a team does all of that and decide the 4th best QB is better than the 2nd WR in Nabers or the best OL in Alt or anybody else...I'll accept it.

With Jones I was pretty certain he was going to be bad.  That pick infuriated me.  He actually looked bad at Duke.  With JJ I don't know if he's going to be good or bad so I'll gladly wait and see.  I do think Caleb Williams is going to be great.  I think Daniels is going to be great (though maybe not in year 1).  I actually am not as high on Maye as others so I don't know if I'd want him either to be honest.
