Dan

Hi again, DD!

Many sorries if I mis-read you!

I'm just excited that we have something going on right now in back-up QB Thomas DeVito that lets me set aside concerns about the future and revel in the present.

Regards.

Hi, Dumpster Dan!

Right now, the New Jersey Giants fans have something to lift their spirits. The team's won three straight. There's a QB who seems to be improving rather than doing the retro cha-cha. The team itself is taking the field with a 'Can do!' attitude. And there's your OP, doom 'n gloomin' it.

C'mon, man. Smile. It may not last, but in sports, nothing's forever.

I don't bet on sporting events 'cause I don't like to throw money away that I could use for something else, even if it's giving it to the grandkids.

I had a friend who was a punter. I watched him drive down one day to Atlantic City in his $90,000 Mercedes and come back in a $400,000 bus.

Regards, stay safe 'n well . . . 'n solvent.

Mr. Thomas DeVito has managed, in four starts, to awaken the moribund New Jersey Giants. The Giant fans have been able to watch the last three games without cringing and pinning their hopes on the draft.

In two days the team will go up against the Saints in an away game. The stats, averaged for the season to date, cast a dark shadow, tinted 6 shades of gray, over the Giant's chances of a win.

But if we look at both team's stats for their last three games, a different picture appears.

This poor old country mouse will be watching come Sunday.

Hi, uconnjack8.

I was using the term in the metaphoric mode. 'Prime time' teams would be those with exceptionally good W/L records such as, say, the Eagles.

The Giants are certainly on their way to becoming a solid mid-level team. The team spirit and the buzz from the fans has certainly improved week-by-week for the past few weeks. It remains to be seen whether it will hold up when the Giants come up against top teams. I hope it will.

An away game for the New Jersey Giants against a solidly mid-level team.

If Mr. Thomas DeVito & Co. come away with something other than a blow-out loss, this armchair observer will consider it a job well done. The Giants aren't ready for prime time yet, but for once, there's hope that's based upon more than wishful thinking.

Mr. Thomas DeVito and Co. delivered another fan-pleaser. The New Jersey Giants are looking like a mid-level team, and that's one heck of a way up the ladder from where they were.

Data and analytics can capture much of what goes on in the game, but analytics has no way to measure elan. That [elan] is what Mr. DeVito has managed to instill. And it showed last night.

I've been a Giant-watcher since the days of Mr. Charles Conerly. Way back then, the Giants were noted for their passing game. Playing Green Bay at Green Bay was something to dread. The Giant's ends had their hands turn to blocks of ice within minutes. Green Bay, meanwhile, churned out the yards on the ground. No-one bet the Giants to win against the Packers at Green Bay in those bygone days.

These Lombardy-less Packer days? Flip a coin no matter the home field.

Aside: One of the sayings attributed to Coach Vincent Lombardi was, "We don't play football. We wage football."

Taking deep shots when the opponents are playing capable man for man equals interceptions.

Mr. Danial Jones, when healthy, probably has the physical abilities of, say, the Jersey Kid. Maybe even better. But he is proven thus far to be comparatively fragile. Look at how long it took the New Jersey Jets to lose a season betting on a good, but fragile, QB.; four, count 'em, 4 snaps.

There's something to be said for durability.

Big Blue Huddle / Re: Packers vs. Giants Predictions

At this writing the Packers are about 6 point favorites over the Giants. Now, I respect the bookies and the odds, but sometimes the team on the short end of the stick hasn't gotten their heads around a loss. The Bengals were 9 point underdogs against the Cougars this week past, remember?

This poor old country mouse will enjoy watching Mr. Thomas DeVito, win or lose. The Jersey Kid has provided real excitement in the last two games.

Mr. Thomas DeVito has been interviewed twice for the job of starting QB on Sunday, 12/11 against the Packers. The first interview was with the Commanders on 11/19. The second was with the Patriots on 11/26.

Mr. DeVito passed both interviews handily.

The Giants are showing improved vital signs and the Jets are on life support. Who would-a thunk it?

Go, Tommy D!

Quote from: BluesCruz on November 28, 2023, 08:55:27 AMTheir kicker cane within a foot or so of tying the game while kicking in the rain

Their team is always in the game and does not get sometimes blown out as we do

They may be just 1 QB away from being contenders again.

They have nothing to cry about.  Their future seems more secure than ours if truth be told.  Their D is good, and they have a strong running game.

With the return of Daniel Jones the Giants might just become unwatchable again
This is 1st season ever where I have to turned off some Giants games in the 2nd half

We need a QB like Tommy D (if not Tommy himself) and a running game that keeps us from wearing out our punters leg.....way too many 3rd and longs without that stout reliable running game.

The Patriots it seems are going to have great draft position to get their QB

We apparently are going to get Daniel Jones 2.0

Hi, Blues!

The trick for the Giants is to get at least some small amount of cash recovery for the fragile Mr. Daniel Jones. Front gate ticket sales comes to mind.

Regards.

Quote from: DaveBrown74 on November 28, 2023, 06:25:05 AMNo, perhaps not.

But how do you think a fan base with a team whose QBs are Mac Jones and Bailey Zappe are feeling right now knowing they're presently in the two spot in a year with at least two elite QB prospects?

Hi, Dave!

I'm not all that hot about first or 2nd round QB picks. Not that a team wouldn't like the next Aaron Rodgers or Tom Brady. They would. But all too many 'brilliant' QB picks have turned out, when they got them home and opened the package, to be not as advertised.

I'd personally prefer for the Giants to strengthen other specific positions and go with the Jersey Kid for a while.

Regards, and thanks for the chat!

A patriot, heading back into the locker room after losing to the Giants . . . and having to face coach Bill Belichick.
