Not bad, Bama!

Yeah, we'll need some luck this year inasmuch as teams in the Giants' division and in the northeast appear to be more active (and less "settled") than last year. Bob

Quote from: Brooklyn Dave on August 28, 2024, 12:33:12 AMI was looking over the roster cuts and I will leave it to those who have much greater knowledge then I have but the one player who caught my eye was Michael Carter released by the Cardinals . I know hw was a November pick up last year by the Cards but he added to the Cards to go along with James Conner. He might be someone to consider as a backup RB behind Singletary. I know that Schoen and Daboll want to get younger but right now Gray and Tracy are the backups

Dave: I'd say this is possible only if the Giants really want (or are able to add) a fourth RB this year. Bob

Don't forget... this year there are actually a total of 55 players who can be on the roster (or approximate equivalent), because each team gets two "freebie" IR guys whom they can bring back in a month (with other technicalities not important at this time). Bob

Quote from: Jclayton92 on August 27, 2024, 04:43:47 PMDown from the 74 last year we now have 5.

Jones, Thomas, Lawrence, Okereke, and Kreiter?

J: Don't pooh-pooh the value of Kreiter. I don't want to jinx it but has he ever delivered a bad snap? Bob

Quote from: expatriot on August 27, 2024, 11:46:51 AMI love the optimism year after year.  I sadly, (again) don't see a winning team.

ex-p: IMO there are two types of optimism.

One is hoping for the best with a lot of supporting data/info.

The other is hoping for the best with nothing but blind faith.

Allen Robinson was cut

Dumpster Dan

I thought there were two Robinsons but could not find either one on the list. Bob

@JustinPenik
Giants WR's left on the roster
Nabers
Robinson
Hyatt
Slayton
McKenzie
Olszewski (hurt?)
Ford-Wheaton

Kinda feels like they want to sign somebody not in the building right now because it's interesting to cut both Robinson and Hodgin

Rich: Double-check. Robinson was not cut. If you are aware of that, I don't understand your sentence/point. Bob

Quote from: Philosophers on August 27, 2024, 09:44:07 AMI will tell you something even more troubling.  If it is true the Giants preferred Iggy Ekwonu instead of Neal and would have drafted him, he has also been a subpar/quasi-bust OL.

What does that say about the Giants ability to evaluate OL prospects?

Phil: For me, at least, selecting non-busting high-1st-round T's & C's is harder than picking high-1st QB's. Bob

Quote from: EDjohnst1981 on August 26, 2024, 05:56:56 AMWow, that's some claim, Bob!

Let's hope you're correct.

EDj: I intended to say Giants will finish ahead of Philly OR DALLAS, but I lost my train of thought.

It comes with old age. lol

Nevertheless, I'm fine with leaving it as originally stated, because the odds in favor of the Giants finishing ahead of Dallas are far, far longer than finishing ahead of Philly, so addition of Dallas to the statement does not add much at all.

Quote from: H-Town G-Fan on August 26, 2024, 06:39:24 PMNo player is perfect. The best around will have negative performances, whether that be individual snaps, games, or even seasons (at least "down" seasons by their own measure). They are humans. Bad players aren't bad because they're incapable of playing well, they're bad because their bad play ultimately eclipses the good. Assuredly, everyone in the NFL is in the microscopic percentile of athletes in the world--they did not get there by being "bad" at any point prior to that. But the margin for error in the NFL is razor-thin and it cuts away, revealing weaknesses (whether physical or mental). Physical tools will get you to the NFL; mental tools will help you last in the NFL. I fear Jones lacks in the latter, which is why positive consistency is lacking.

H-T: To add the obvious to your observations, applying the type of analysis Rich is espousing is doubly complex when the subject is a QB (because the position is one of the most multi-faceted in all of pro sports). Bob

I agree with Skinner, except IMO they should (and must) hold him until the absolute "last minute..." just in case.

Right now, IMO, he has one foot out-the-door and the other on a banana peel.

It could turn out to be our biggest "wasted pick" of the decade (century?), a list which includes a ton of LOSERS, not only because (as several other members have pointed out and discussed in other threads) there were sensational players passed over to select Neal, but also because he was selected so high in the first round.
