When the elevator is in the basement there really is only one way to go. However if no one pushes the right button the elevator stays in the basement. Yesterday's victory was meaningless except for the "rub and tug" it gave Mara. Soriani left opportunity on the table to avenge the Sudfield Submission. While he was in the game the goal(unstated) should have been that the next snap Hurts takes should be next Spring during OTA's. Send all eleven, and for good measure add on a roughing the passer. This morning there would be no Brotherly Love in Philly, Soriani would have been dropped from the Walt Whitman into the Delaware, there would be thousands of Rockies running up the museum steps, and the square in front of Independence Hall would be flowing with green blood(not Mr. Spock's). Revenge is a dish best served cold. I'll have my soft pretzel right out of the fridge with a drop of mustard.

Big Blue Huddle / Re: Giants likely draft slot
January 08, 2024, 12:03:31 AM
Montana in the third, Brady in the sixth, Purdy Mr. Irrelevant. It's sometimes not what the "can't miss" prospect has done, but what Daboll etal thinks a prospect who has shown talent can become in his system. I don't want to give up draft capital, there are too many holes. We need some luck.

To answer the question posed by this thread, historical perspective. The media is all about today's headlines, and what happened earlier in today's game(sic), and how it effects next week. I've been a fan since 65'. A couple of months ago I did  W-L regular season record since 65'. They are approximately 55 games BELOW .500 since then. They are a historically losing franchise despite the four trophies. That's where the discussion about the Giants should start. It's never happened because it doesn't sell today's "flash". Players and coaches have come and gone. The one constant is the Mara family. That's where the arrow should be pointed. The failure of Wellington(RIP), and John to provide a satisfactory product to their consumer audience, the fans. If I was running the show I would long ago have adopted Al Davis'(RIP) mantra of "just win baby", and like him draw the disdain of the other owners. "Winning is the only thing" (Vince Lombardi) would be posted everywhere in the facility, I'd put it on the uniforms. I'd hire a guy/gal like the fictional Bobby Axelrod, and his kemosabi Wags from Billions to behind the scenes mess with the finances of the other teams/owners, I'd challenge the legality of the draft, and try to equalize it with any other type of graduate. Meaning, do you see Big 6 drafting accounting graduates, or engineering firms having a draft? I'd be ruthless in my pursuit of WINS. Period. My fortune would have been made elsewhere, the Giants would be a serious hobby. That's the problem, the Giants are a family business. Yes John is a successful corporate lawyer by trade, but the Giants is really all he has known. We all bring aspects of our childhoods with us. John walks through the halls and sees in his mind Charlie Connerlly, Frank Gifford, and Sam Huff. It gives him comfort, and clouds his perspective. We get Tommy Cutlets.

Big Blue Huddle / Re: NFT: NY Rangers 2023 - 2024 Season

Quote from: DaveBrown74 on December 27, 2023, 03:11:30 PMActually, wait a second. Why is this the halfway point of the season? They've played 32 games. Season is 82 games, no?

The beginning of my post says "unofficial beginning of the second half". I've heard the turn of the year being considered as the start of the second half.

Okay boys and girls. The unofficial beginning of the second half of the regular season begins tonight. We are about to be treated to some really really good hockey league wide from here on out. Our Rangers are a very very good team. This is no mirage. The last week or so before the break has seen a raising of the game to near playoff like level. Forget about the fumble in the 3rd against Edmonton, what was most important was the subsequent win against Buffalo. The Sabres are a fast, young, talented team that is better than their record. The Rangers are showing resilience, they don't let losses fester. In the third and OT Igor simply said NO. That bodes well. I've had the thought during the 1st half that the Rangers are not a fast enough skating team, and made up for a lack of speed with superb passing. I think I'm wrong, they are fast enough. Couple of things. I wish we could infuse a Nick Fotiu New York attitude into all these Rangers. Meaning combined with their talent is a mean, belligerent, nasty playing personna. Although I REALLY like Will Cuylle's game, I think we need one more piece like that with 15-20 goals ability. Play fu hockey. Cups are won with talent(I think they have enough), and equally important WILL. Treat the opposition as if they are just in the way, and you will do almost anything to get by. Take liberties with Lindgren(happens all the time) then be prepared for a xcheck to the mouth by one of his teammates. Shoulder checks instead of stick checks, particularly in Center Ice. Want to block a shot, well here it comes mother effer. Pray for no major injuries. I really like their third jersey. Evokes memories of the Giants' 86' home blue uniform. LGR.

Quote from: katkavage on December 26, 2023, 04:30:35 PMHe will be on the hot seat next year. I'm sure he will plead with Schoen to get him a QB. If they don't upgrade at the most important position, the chances of success for both Daboll and Schoen will be pretty much diminished and it will be Daboll's last year. They cannot go into 2024 with the QB's they currently have.

Hopefully Mara stays out of it. If you recall MacAdoo pleaded with the FO to trade up for Mahomes, but nooooo. The Head Coach needs to have his own QB. Period!

Quote from: andrew_nyGiants on December 26, 2023, 11:24:24 AMDoes anyone believe that Daboll' success last season went to his head and his newfound success caused a lackadaisical approach throughout the roster?

I feel like reality hit him smack in the face at 2-8 causing him to really tighten up. When we lost yesterday to officially eliminate ourselves from contention, he was truly miserable (I didn't appreciate his attitude in the post game presser).

Let's hope that (assuming he stays) he is able to learn from the experience.

Daboll's attitude was what it should be. He was pissed off, and kurt.

Most important will Mara look at the Jones example and finally realize loyalty is nice, but it doesn't win football games, AND to stop meddling. He won't though because to the Maras the Giants are the family really cute Golden Doodle. There are the Tischs though. Maybe history will repeat, and there will be another intervention with similar results. Warm up the piper cub.

If we get to pick #4 let's say Daniels or Maye is available. It all depends if the FO likes McCarthy more. Then it's possible for a trade down a couple spots, and get some more assets. I want as many turns at the wheel as possible. Any OL taken has to have a mean streak. I want to evolve into a belligerent, nasty team that no one wants to play.

For example name me the 4 starting DB's on our finest team ever, the 1986 Giants.

Mark Collins
Perry Williams
Terry Kinard, then Tom Flynn when Kinard got hurt
Kenny Hill
We had arguably one of the best LB corp ever, and a stout DL.

Coaches can only do so much, one needs talent.

The Rams need to win to keep their playoff spot, and the boids will probably need a win. So I see the Giants losing the next two. The Pats will be up at home in what could be Bill's finale. Besides after playing the Browns this Thursday with their ferocious defense the jets may be left with no QB given the state of their OL. Picking 4th would be great. The Bears should take a QB, Fields is not the answer, then you have the other QB, and Harrison. That would leave the rest of the board to us, and any team that covets a particular player should haveto pay us a king's ransom, or we take someone Schoen/Daboll really likes. That spot gives us a strategic advantage. Picking fifth would give me chills and thoughts of Cedric Jones.

I want a team that before and after the game are as kind/nice as Mother Theresa, but during the game they are like the Mongol horde rampaging through the steppe. I want an owner who is as ruthless as Bobby Axelrod was in Billions when it comes to winning, acquiring quality players, and will stand in front of a microphone defending his team that was victimized by lousy officiating. We need a new QB who is a fearless gunslinger.

Nothing meaningful will be done by the league regarding the officiating. They'll put out the the typical corporate speak statement that will go something like we strive to get the proper calls and are always seeking ways to improve yada yada. Harumph harumph. As long as the cash register rings off the wall why change.

Quote from: BluesCruz on December 25, 2023, 08:10:35 PMYes the Dallas games were bad but the team is still playing hard and the scores are close.  I said we are inching not blasting
Pinnock holds onto that ball in the 1st half and it would have been a different game

If Simmons hold on.
