Quote from: Ed Vette on October 08, 2023, 07:04:41 PMIf there's a road to get Caleb Willams, then I'm ok with losing every game the rest of the Season. A Patrick Mahomes clone will fix all their woes.

I don't want this coaching staff around to ruin him if we're in position to draft him.

Quote from: Trench on October 08, 2023, 05:11:28 PMThis was a complete rebuild with the exception of the QB and the RB

Was it? We've still got most of the same scouts failing to identify good players.

We need to burn it all down.

Quote from: Rambo89 on October 08, 2023, 06:59:39 PMShouldn't this regime get the opportunity to draft their own QB and not get fired along with the two previous coaches and GM with Jones as their QB?

This regime already had their chance, and they picked Jones as their QB. If we collapse and end up, say, 1-16, then no. That would mean that they made Gettleman's team even worse (while hanging on to Gettleman's scouts) and they need to go.

And yeah, Jones would go with them at that point.

I'm not ready to fire Daboll yet, but he's trending badly and he hasn't done anything that would make me want to keep him (or Schoen).

If we bottom out and we're in position to draft one of those hyped QBs, then Daboll has to go along with Schoen.

As far as the playoff run goes, I think a more accurate stat for him at this point is that he's 5-11-1 since a 6-1 start.

Quote from: allieshermanghost on October 08, 2023, 04:35:35 PMLet's face it, we have 2 back up QB's. tank and let the coach and gm draft their guy, then if we continue to suck, maybe clean house again! remember, last year we easily could have won just 4 games!

It's a myth that we ever cleaned house. Most of the scouts are still there from Gettleman's era.

I admire the optimism, but at best, we'd be 4-6 and back out of it again.

And those three teams are radically better than this team right now; the only way we beat Washington is if we continue to inexplicably have their number.

Quote from: Jclayton92 on October 04, 2023, 10:31:58 PMI just took it as him saying he doesn't listen to internet trolls. Think out of context it got blown out of proportion.

There's no out of context when it comes to the flipping burgers comment.

I still say he needs to be benched. If not the whole game, at least a quarter. I doubt it will happen after the Giants threw this PR out there for him, though.

Quote from: MightyGiants on October 04, 2023, 07:52:00 AMRight now, Neal is looking Eric Flowers level bad in terms of a very high O-line draft bust

And after what Neal said today, he's taken the Flowers express train.

Quote from: katkavage on October 04, 2023, 05:53:08 PMYup. A franchise always taking the safe, easy route. It's a reflection on the conservative Mara family. Never thinking outside the box. Taking loyalty to the extreme and to the detriment of the franchise. The modern success of the Giants was started by an outsider hoisted on the quarrelling owners by the commissioner. Young's legacy led to Accorsi, Reese and Coughlin. I had hopes for Schoen but the deal for Jones was a bad indicator.

Another problem pointed out on another forum is that most of the scouts are still Gettleman's scouts. We haven't cleaned house at all.

So yeah. He needs to apologize to the fans quick and in a hurry. Someone should tell him that he's not a Lion, he's a Giant.

And this is where we'll find out if Daboll is really a coach or just another Judge who talks tough but has no substance. Daboll has to bench Neal this Sunday.

I wouldn't trade him just yet - as you don't want to sell low, but I'd be listening.

Once again, this is on Schoen, Schoen drafted this guy.

Quote from: DaveBrown74 on October 04, 2023, 06:38:25 AMWas Gettleman that heavily attacked by the fans 1.25 years into his tenure? I honestly don't remember but I doubt it.

Also, were you unhappy with Schoen just after last season, when we won our first playoff game in a decade a year after he and his hand-picked, coach of the year-winning coach took over? I'll speak for myself but I thought that was a pretty darn good first year given what was handed to him.

So while I in no way am "giving anyone a pass", I think it's a little early to throw the guy completely under the bus. Obviously if this season ends up being the disaster that it is already starting to look like it's going to be, then the view on Schoen will be different than it was last February.

But I'm not ready to just jump ship right now and say this guy is a bad GM or has done a terrible job overall. No GM is perfect, where every single decision they make works out well. That wasn't true with George Young or Ernie Accorsi, or anyone else in the league.

Gettleman had way more heat than Schoen from near the beginning, when he drafted Barkley.

Quote from: Giant Obsession on October 04, 2023, 12:53:45 AMWe are a supposed flagship franchise DESPERATE for some sign of continued success as a show of our strength and stability.

The powers that be in the offseason after success the previous year lie to themselves, overvalue and overpay and think the success will continue.  Our drafts are ordinary at best.  We would in almost every circumstance be better off trading out of the first 2 rounds cuz we sure can't evaluate talent across the board.

No balls to make the tough call like holding the line on Jones and Barkley (one is ordinary the other close to being done), keeping good citizens on the roster who have no football value.

In short the New York Football Giants are a clusterf**k football franchise who occasionally like the blind pig find an acorn.

And don't it make you wonder just HOW MANY first time head coaches are we going to keep hiring.

There's a larger theory that since the 1950s, the Giants and Lions have essentially been the same. The difference is the Giants got LT and Eli to save them and the Lions got Barry Sanders and Megatron to try to save them.

Now Hutchinson is saving the Lions and Barkley failed to save the Giants.

Quote from: madbadger on October 03, 2023, 06:55:26 PMHow much of that is on Bobby Johnson. Not a single Giants lineman has shown improvement since the middle of last year. In fact they've all regressed to one degree or another including Thomas. I have a hard time hanging that on the GM alone.

He should be canned after giving up 11 sacks.

I hope it's not true that the Maras are dictating things like signing Jones. If so then the situation is beyond hope.

Assuming not, then Schoen is definitely not above criticism. Not a single player he's brought in has been worth the cost. Both drafts have, to this point, been terrible. If it were another team I'd say he was a joke of a GM.

If the bottom falls out and this team is in position to be looking at a Caleb Williams, no way should Schoen (or Mara for that matter) be the one making the call.

Quote from: Philosophers on October 03, 2023, 12:39:19 PMWhat I love about Barkley is he cares.  He shows up and plays with fire.

How many other players on this team can you say that about?

The irony is, at the rate things are going, it's almost going to loop around into making sense to bring Barkley back. Namely, we're going to need a stable cheap veteran hand at RB the next couple of years, and Barkley will - if anything - be cheap.
