Quote from: Jolly Blue Giant on March 05, 2024, 11:01:45 AMI think there will be a lot of heartbroken fans who think the Giants are thinking of moving up to get a QB. Maybe they will, but I really doubt it. As Rich pointed out in another thread, they need to focus on infrastructure or they're just going to get another DJ situation...i.e., "talented QB with nothing to work with and a line that can't protect him"

Going back to the basics:

- it takes a team to win, not just a good QB
- build the trench first, then add the skill players
- most players are highly refined athletes, but without the right coaches and solid game planning, it gets wasted
- in general, it's a very small percentage of fans that actually know as much as the coaches (1% would be high)
- no matter how good a QB is, if he can't be protected, and has inadequate receivers (or doesn't have time for adequate receivers to run their routes), or gets no consistency in coaching...he's going to fail more often than succeed
- Championship football is NEVER a one-man show, and the unsung heroes in championships, do a lot of dirty work that goes under the radar and doesn't get the fanfare that a QB does. Even great QBs will tell you the same thing

FOOTBALL IS THE EPITOME OF A "TEAM SPORT"

you lost me at "DJ ... talented QB"

I understand. Meant well. Wilson did play much better than the year prior but eventually drove Payton nuts in his declining arc.

Payton never wanted Russ in the first place especially with that contract.

Quote from: spiderblue43 on March 04, 2024, 11:31:50 PMSo a choice of qbs? One a move up (3rd qb Maye),the other a young pup (JJ)?? I don't have a conviction on Maye or JJ, although it may be the direction ultimately.

probably trade up for Maye, though sounds like Daniels is falling

Im a lot higher on him than Hyatt. He can be a great #3 on a super bowl winning team, but needs a real QB.

people say DJ had better development, but no one stunted our skill players careers like Jones has for our WR's (Hyatt, Slayton, Wandale, )

we could draft jerry rice, if daniel jones and tommy devito are throwing we are not going to do anything in the NFC East
#156
When has a QB "rising up the draft boards" done well recently? Not antagonizing, but just curious because the last QB projected to be a 2nd rounder/late 1st and "Rose up the boards" was DANIEL JONES

Quote from: Ed Vette on March 04, 2024, 09:46:43 PMIf the Giants cut Jones post June 1st they will get hit with 35 million in dead cap for 24 and 25 but they will save 12 million in 24 cap space. Would you sign Wilson to a one year for 12 mil and cut Jones?

YES x a million

why can't we get him?

He's basically a high end Tyrod Taylor and it'd be for a year... we had him last year we are again a playoff team. I'll take him 100x over Jones.

Daniel Jeremiah apparently heard the same thing

if so... why haven't we made the deal yet? That's an EASY deal to take Drake or Daniels.
#160
where exactly is all our money being used on? Jones, Waller, Gano??? How is it possible we have so little cash on hand and are so bad?
#161
tyrod already proved he can make an awful oline look decent compared to horrible tommy and jones. it's a QB issue not a Oline issue

Quote from: DaveBrown74 on March 02, 2024, 07:57:47 PMWe had the third worst offense in the league last year with Barkley. Is 29th really that much different from 32nd?

If we decide to keep Barkley

could be historically bad next season

Quote from: DaveBrown74 on March 02, 2024, 07:03:21 AMI'm not blaming him for anything. My point is that our offense is so bereft with talent that an aging, injury-prone, and declining RB is not going to make enough of a difference to justify paying up to keep him. The 2023 season is the case in point to that statement. We need to get younger, deeper, healthier, and cheaper at this position. Paying up for a 27 year old RB with a long list of injuries in his history makes very little sense for this team right now with where it is at.

IF we take a rookie QB, it is essential we keep Saquon to help their porcess. 3 years is not a long time.

And if we don't keep Saquon with Jones, we will have the worst offense in NFL next year

Quote from: DaveBrown74 on March 02, 2024, 05:22:33 AMYou mean unlike how great it was with Saquon?
Are you honestly blaming Saquon for being stuck with the worst starting QB in the league for 5 years?

The second he goes to the Texans or whatever team his numbers are going to explode. Let's be serious.

Weren't his numbers with Tyrod significantly better than with Jones?

I woudl retire too. He knows how ass this offense will be without Saquon
