I've never seem Nix play but heard an analysis of his game on a podcast from The Athletic.  Not that they were critical of him but his success at Oregon seems to be related to the offense they run.  The vast majority of his throws are under 7 yards with an occasional deep throw to keep the defense guessing.  That doesn't say alot about his ability to come off his primary receiver.  Maybe he can but it makes him much harder to evaluate on the next level

Quote from: DaveBrown74 on November 25, 2023, 06:38:37 PMTo be fair, The Commanders knocked him around pretty good (9 sacks), and he still gave you turnover free football for four quarters and threw three TD passes, something our injured starter hadn't done in four years.
Looked to me that for the most part, he was throwing to wide open receivers.  I didn't watch much of the Thnxgiving game but I had the sense Dallas could have scored alot more than 45

Quote from: Jclayton92 on November 23, 2023, 05:47:14 PMTrue but most middle of the road qbs cost that much now so really just haggling over a few million. I was against Jones resigning the whole time, I thought we should have blown it up and started over but they didn't and thought Jones would at least keep in things while they built up the team. That's not the case so it just accelerates their clock.
How could Schoen blow everything up after the first year?  You can make the case that he should have used the franchise tag on Jones but that would have created problems elsewhere, i.e. Barkley.  Going to the playoffs and winning a game in the long run hurt the team

I'm curious if most negative responses about Giants stadium relate to the turf which to me would be meaningful given the number of injuries Giants players have experienced over the years.

The noise level, to me, is a direct result of the seat licenses and high ticket prices.  Many of the diehards can no longer sit near the field or in many cases go the games; too expensive.  There was a guy who worked for me years ago who had 4 seats near midfield lower level.  I knew exactly how much he earned on the job and he ended up buying the 4 for something like $60,000 total.  His plan was to sell the seats at enough profit to pay off the loan he took to make the purchase.  With a better team, maybe he had a chance.

Big Blue Huddle / Re: Good to get a win but

To me, this is almost a silly conversation to have about halfway through the season.  I get it at the end of a horrible season, winning the last or next to last game of a horrible season does make a difference.  But, given the young mediocre QBs of the Steelers or the Falcons, wouldn't it make sense for them to lose also so they could end up with their future star QB.  Lots of other teams also.  I'm curious how Belichick, one of greatest HCs ever, coaches against the Giants with a similar season and similar needs.  I'm guessing he goes all out to win.  Maybe not-ws'll see.

Looked to me that on the Sam Howell TD that Banks had a chance to tackle Howell short of the goal line had he wrapped him up & tackled him instead of just hitting him.

Quote from: DaveBrown74 on November 18, 2023, 12:19:22 PMHerbert needs to start winning more big games. And he needs to start winning more close games too. The latter one is key.

Now.. I'm only going to go so far knocking a guy who has 20 total TDs (17 passing, 3 rushing) with just 5 INTs and zero lost fumbles, along with being 5th in QBR and having a 99.5 rating. He is clearly very talented. The eye test alone tells you that if you watch just a couple of series with him.

Their big issue is D. When you're literally 31st out of 32 teams in yards per game allowed and you're 24th in PPG allowed, and the team is still in the playoff hunt in late November, it's kind of hard to kill the QB.

But still, with the talent he has and (now) the paycheck he has, I'm not really in the excuses business. He does have to win. He's 25 though, so it's not like the book is remotely written
 on him.

A big issue is defense.  The big issue is coaching.  There was a thread yesterday about owners.  Chargers are up there with the worst.  I don't know what the Charger HC has to do to lose his job.  He is up there with the worst HCs I have ever seen.

Quote from: LennG on November 17, 2023, 03:55:09 PMPLEASE stop blaming the owner because we suck on the field. Mara may have his faults but on game day, we go out and embarrass ourselves every week in and out. Matra can't throw the ball more than 5 yards, Mara can't block the defenders, Mara can't keep teams from scoring at will.
While I also am not a fan of his meddling, he sure is the least of our deficiencies.
The one constant on the Giants in Mara going back years.  But, stating the obvious, somebody hired Gettleman and Judge and others who selected or coached the players we all are complaining about.  I'm reasonably happy with Schoen & Daboll )  and am hoping that Mara has learned to stay away from football decisions. There are many on this board who believe he is still too involved in personnel decisions.  I'm not in that camp but it's mostly hoping.  If Mara is dictating decisions like the Jones contract, it's hopeless

Quote from: kingm56 on November 17, 2023, 02:22:17 PMMike Brown was consider a laughingstock, excessively cheap, and worst owner in the NFL.  Then he drafted Joe Burrow and poof, he's no longer considered a terrible owner.
I dont know that Mike Brown is considered the worst owner notwithstanding his cheapness. Up until pretty recently, there was this guy in Washington who was pretty bad.  The Bengals have drafted well lately which would suggest somebody knows what they're doing.  You can look around the league and find teams that clearly dont know what they're doing witj owners content to cash their checks.  Not sure where Mara fits in given his propensity to spend but where has that gotten us.  I just might prefer Mike Brown to John Mara, not saying much

I don't remember where I heard this.  There are 3 components to a good team- QB, HC and owner.  GM was not included.  The one constant on the Giants, in my opinion, is a bad owner.  We've won a few SBs with a bad owner but we had (young) Eli and Coughlin.  I still like Daboll but we need a QB preferably on a rookie contract

Big Blue Huddle / Re: How Bad Are The Giants?

Granted I don't watch much college football but I'm not convinced that the current Giants team with DeVito at QB would beat a Georgia or Michigan or Ohio State.  One or more of them may have more overall talent especially if Andrew Thomas and/or Thibs are out.  I have never thought a college team could compete with a pro team.

Goff had become pretty good

The game against the Patriots will be huge.  I cant tell if Belichick could tank a game even if he wanted to especially against the Giants.  On the other hand, he needs a QB pretty badly

Can someone explain why on the push tush, they have little guys pushing Jones instead of big strong OL?

Quote from: spiderblue43 on November 04, 2023, 02:17:22 PMRaiders may be tanking obviously..but I wouldn't be surprised they play hard for Pierce. They couldn't stand Little Josh..dare I say Raiders 17-13.
Not making a prediction but I think you're right.  The players may show up if only out of their dislike for McDaniels
