any action intended to CHANGE the price of a stock (rather than betting on the natural changes) is immoral and unethical and harms all investors not involved in the scheme

The prices we're seeing in GME, AMC or BBBY are disconnected from any fundamentals whatsoever. This is what harms the markets and the investors in general.

This will be a hollywood movie at some point for sure.

The Reddit community pumped the price with a coordinated action (so called "collusion" practice, which is forbidden from a Market Manipulation standpoint) to a level where the hedge funds needed to buy the stocks to cover their shorts and limit their losses, which made the price spike even further.

But: How can a platform, like for example Robbinhood, restrict trading in GME for Retailers then, while professional investors such as Hedge Funds, can continue trading normally?

Another question:

Who owns Robbinhood? 70% Citadel.
Who owns the Hedge Funds which were short? Citadel.

Is this not also a clear conflict of interest?

The new "Robinhooders" (those who trade on Robinhood) are millennials who are driving traditional stock professionals crazy. The youngsters treat it like it's a game and try to outsmart the big guys. They certainly did with GameStop, which is now trading as though the little store is twice as valuable as WalMart. They understand how big guys set up computers to automatically buy and sell using the "short selling" method. In fact, the computers do all the work for them and the computers simply mine money from the market and at night time, the big guys look at how much money was siphoned off the system for the day before heading home to their mansions. So a huge group of the Robinhood 20-something kids communicated via a website to target them by pushing up the price of GameStop forcing the big guys (well...their computers do it automatically) to buy the stock because it doesn't short as long as the stock doesn't fail (go lower); therefore, the computer automatically buys it back. Hence, some big hedge funds have nearly gone bankrupt while some kids have become millionaires overnight and at least three guys have made over a billion dollars from it. Since the stock has been sitting around 5.00 a share for the last couple years and the company just went into debt to keep the company afloat, it made sense for the big guys to short it betting on it to fail. So if you bought a thousand dollars worth of stock, it would have been worth over 9 million dollars at the close yesterday. Gotta hand it to the kids, they took down some fat cats and became very wealthy. And it was all legal. And quite frankly, genius.

I am sure the SEC will come up with new regulations to keep that from happening again. Protect the big cats!

I've read some complaints by the fat cats on Wall Street hating on the Robinhooders. One guy wrote, "go ahead kid - you're so smart - nothing could go wrong....and make sure to use all your margin...etc., etc."

One kid responded, "my grandfather left me 100,000 dollars and I turned it into 800,000 in the past year. Now I've gotten a professional trader and have diversified 75% of it into a variety of options like precious metals, various energy companies, tech, EV, etc., but have taken 200,000 to purchase real estate in a growing area near Phoenix that has nowhere but to go up. Make fun of me all you want, I am going to be a millionaire before I turn 30".

Crazy world in the stock market right now. And I love it! Keeps the big guys on their toes, LOL

This trend is making INVESTORS lose confidence into the markets, and this is worrying. In fact the Swiss Market Index is down 2% today. Why? Because of the lack of confidence into the markets.

We can talk about transparency and all that buzz as long as we want, but is this transparent? No, it's not.

I have digged a little deeped on that, and there's 2 sides of things:

1. The Dodd Frank Regulation clearly forbits naked short sellings. First issue is how can a Hedge Fund go naked short if it's against the Rules? Second issue is, how can they go short with a value that is 140% of the oustanding shares through levereged products?
2. The scheme that has been put up by hobbytraders / retail investors is wrong. In fact the selling restrictions put in place aim to limit speculators.

It's also why I am glad I am an investor and not a trader.

This is very, very, very worrying.

But I am sure the SEC will be monitoring this closely. Matter of fact there are selling restrictions applied on this stock I believe.

Overall, the volatility on this stock is absolutely unbelievable. To me, this is a Ramping / Pump and Dump scheme. Problem is that if you do not monitor the communications between the individuals in agreement to put those schemes up you will never find anything from an order / trade manipulation perspective as they potentially fly under the radar with lower volumes.

Last night we were able to watch the latest new movie from PIXAR, "SOUL".

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aP5C1OSSEOo&ab_channel=MovieclipsTrailers

https://www.imdb.com/title/tt2948372/

First things first. I LOVE anything that comes out of the PIXAR studios. Their animation and movies are just so far above anyone else's. Just classic movies, as Toy Story, The Incredibles, Finding Nemo, Cars, WALL-E and so, so many more. Seems each was better than the last, so I went into this movie with great anticipation.PLUS it got rave reviews, so where am I with it. I just didn't love it. Don't get me wrong, the animation is way beyond anything PIXAR has ever done. There were scenes in NY where you might have thought it was film and not animated. Just so far ahead of its time. Story-wise, if anyone has watched the trailer, it about a supposedly middle-aged guy who loves Jazz. he is a temp music teacher for kids and gets a promotion to full-time. BUT, at the same time he lands a spot with a jazz band, his entire life what he has waited for--so where does he go. NO where, he falls down a manhole and dies and that really starts the essence of the story. And here is where it mostly became confused. I can see kids liking the characters and animation, but the story, about death, reborn life, and your soul is just not what kids would enjoy. Maybe I'm so old I don't know what kids would really enjoy, but I think parts of the movie might be way over their heads. It was to me. When the movie was back on Earth, it was great, trying to follow Joe Gardiner in his quest to return to Earth and play in this jazz band. It was funny, cute and so well done. I just felt they spent way too much time in what might be the afterlife, trying to decide where Joe would go and with whom.
Again this movie got excellent reviews, even better than that. I think it was the first animated movie made about African Americans--totally and it was great. The dude who played the barber was so great and his story, also great.

I would recommend this movie to one and all, and you decide for yourself. Great movie to watch with your kids as there could be so much to discuss with them during and after.

Hey Lenny

Funny you mention it, we watched it with our girls on Xmas Day when it came out (we were quarantined as my sister and brother in law were tested positive for COVID, so we couldn't hang out together).
Wife and I loved it, the daughters (4 and 6) found it ok, but it's not their favourite at all. I find it to be a bit complex to understand for kids that age. Other than that, I feel it's very well made and the storyline also ties back a bit with Inside Out from 2015.

Other than that, I also love the PIXAR movies. They're all so good I can't even name a favourite for myself....

I have finished watching Lupin on Netflix.

Absolutely worthwhile - loved it (although I must admit I like Omar Sy a lot as an actor).

If you have seen The Intouchables you know what I am talking about. :)

I struggle all the time.

My darling wife makes, what I consider, the best cheesecake EVER. Better than Juniors. She used to make this all the time, but now I only get one on my birthday. I am not severely overweight, but I am also not in the 'eat whatever you want' department. So she makes me this cheesecake, and my urges and desires, that I have no control over, make me want to eat it all and NOT share it with anyone.
Is this wrong, am I a creature of some law of the fittest or whatever. I always succumb to my desires and simply cannot resist.

How does that fit into your equation???

She is now into making home made breads and those wonderful smell filters thru every part of the house. I simply cannot control all these desires to eat, eat, and eat. I need help.

Story of my life Lenny, story of my life...  =))

I have not seen it. I have heard really mixed reviews of it. Like if you LOVED Picard from Next Generation you will probably love this movie, and then visa versa. Again, just from hearsay, I have heard it is a bit slow and Picard, love him or hate him will determine how you feel about the movie.

Myself, I liked his character, but if the movie is slow, no liking a character will make it better. I'll see it sometime down the line.

I have watched Picard now Lenny, it's ok. Not as good as Discovery, as the latter is a bit more action-loaded, but it's ok to watch.

I have been watching "ALL OR NOTHING" from the Tottenham Hotspurs on Amazon - I reccommend it strongly although I know that most of you don't like or follow European Football (I refuse to call it soccer ).

Another good documentary is the Tony Parker one on Netflix called "The Final Shot". Really, really good.

Belichick
Lombardi
Walsh
Shula
Parcells

I think Parcells is actually underrated. What he did with the Giants was clearly great, but he was also the only winning coach in Jet history (Al Groh coached one season and got to 9-7, up to you if you want to count that), and he did well in New England. The Dallas stint was not great, but he was kind of semi-retired then. All in all a brilliant career and one where he built bad teams up, as opposed to just being handed a winner from the get-go.

I can only quote and agree. Good post en explanation Dave.  ;)

Definitely NOT a softie:

"Some babies are 8 o'clock babies, some babies are 7 o'clock babies.  Why do you have to be a 6 o'clock baby?"

Sounds about the same as to what I was saying to my daughter after a couple of weeks I slept 1 hour a night...
