Quote from: Bob In PA on March 15, 2024, 12:12:52 PMlondon: As usual, great post. Had a good laugh, too. Thanks. Bob  PS. Do you believe Harrison, Jr., is certain to be gone (as of today)?

Yes, I think so. Arizona and Chargers both badly need WR after free agency. I can see one trading out but not both.

Or Schoen really is planning to do exactly what he said he would, Jones plus a good back up (Lock), and all the QB smoke is doing is forcing someone to trade into 4 or 5 meaning at worst we get our WR2.

I had come around to seeing the logic in McCarthy but I like the Lock addition for us as a fit with Daboll. I am not at all sure I am more confident McCarthy would work out than I am Lock will.

If we do not draft a QB and neither Jones nor Lock cut it then we will likely have another top pick next year and a good shot at getting to draft QB1 or 2. Yes, the 2025 QB class looks weaker seen today but there is still a better than fair chance that is as good as taking QB4 this year.

Quote from: Jolly Blue Giant on March 15, 2024, 11:29:13 AMSoooo...if one of the top QBs are still on the board when Giants are on the clock, would the Giants trade their 6th spot for both of Minnie's 1st rounders if approached?? Boy, I would in a heart beat

If it is McCarthy left, definitely.

If it is Daniels left, probably.

If it is Maye left, probably not.

The meltdown here and on socials will be epic if come the draft it turns out GM Schoen has been saying exactly what he meant ever since season ended:

Jones is the starter when fit

Lock is the good back-up who can start

They will presumably throw to a new WR1 in Nabers/Odunze.

Minny priming themselves to move up possibly increases the odds on this being the reality.

FYI, every thread with the same repetitive stuff is against this Forum's guidelines...

Hunter does not quite have Burns A+ speed/bend but is a much more rounded player with better hand use, more power and better edge set vs. run. He is also 4 years older and had more injuries.

Right now Hunter is the better player. In two or three years time that might look different. Burns has been acquired as a foundational piece. Hunter would be more of a bridge.

Precisely Rosehill. Another returner and he provides cover for Wandale in the slot where we have gone from loaded to bare-shelved.

Big Blue Huddle / Re: Giants sign Jalen Mills

He has played outside CB, NCB, S so on the veteran minimum deal he got per Art Stapleton he does provide utility depth.

Burns is a top 20 Edge being paid like a top 2 Edge but that will no doubt begin to correct in the next two years as new contracts get given.

His speed is off the charts and he has great bend/flexibility outside but he needs to improve his power and use of hands to be more consistently effective holding off elite tackles on the edge or working back to the inside.

If the Giants are wise they will let Andre Patterson work with him as well as new guy OLB Coach Bullen as Patterson is elite at improving hand use for DT/DE.

Lock is a very different QB to Jones. He is a pocket guy, with a big arm and will sling it deep given time but he has very little regard for coverage and throws nearly as many Int as TD.

If we treat the injury and OL hampered start of last year as an aberration Jones had evolved into a mobile but excessively cautious QB who does not turn the football over more than average.

They certainly are not like for like. That might make for a genuine competition of sorts if Jones is fit in camp.

It should read day 3...

I would list the same players but for me Lawrence, Thomas, Burns, Okereke, Thibodeaux is the order with Banks as the emerging challenger. It rather highlights both the dearth of game-changing talent on O (maybe one of Robinson, Hyatt, JMS will emerge) and the potential for the D to be good if we can just raise the floor in the defensive backfield. This is also why it must be QB or WR in R1 of the draft in 44 days time.

FWIW, I think it is clear Schoen is shifting resource allocation to positions he think have most value and is trying to raise our floor with better line play.

I don't think we can force a QB but IF they (not we!) have a conviction on one in the draft they need to move heaven and earth to get him.

If we do not see a QB we love in reach then I would expect Schoen to focus on higher impact positions such as WR-X, CB2, 3T DT on days one and two.

The three picks on day 3 plus remaining FA and camp cuts can improve depth at S, TE, NCB and perhaps also still at areas that already received some attention in RB, OL, ST.

Our ceiling will be as high as our QB play. Our floor will be determined in the trenches and by our general roster depth.

Big Blue Huddle / Re: What do you guys want at #47 ?
March 12, 2024, 11:19:37 AM
Assuming WR at 6 I think best CB or DT available will probably be the plan.

If there is not good value we have enough holes that you can justify pretty much anything even including an Edge as Ojulari is in his final year and not looking like an extension candidate.

If we had kept Saquon and McKinney, extending them last year or paying them this, we do not have the ability to make the trade for Burns. Schoen has a very strong belief in positional value (albeit a modernised one that sees DT and G and MLB as valuable).

IMO it is a rebuild but slow rebuilds are almost history in the NFL, arguably bar the Texans but they have such a low profile they could do it.

QB is the elephant in the room but it will need a ton of luck to solve that this year so in the meantime I currently expect Schoen to upgrade high value positions. I am thinking WR at 6 and CB at 47 but we will see if FA changes that.
