Big Blue Huddle / Re: Giants sign Pugh

They had to do it after last night. Put him in at either guard or at LT next week.

It's bad that we're looking at Pugh to bring some toughness, but it can't hurt at this point.

The 6-1 start was a mirage and he's been 5-10-1 ever since. That's the reality, every bit of positive feel for this regime is based off of that start.

Schoen doubled down on Gettleman's mistakes - he owns Jones/Barkley. He also owns the 2 bad drafts we've had under his regime.

I'm not sure what the answer is. The only person that hasn't been "moved" in one form or another is John Mara himself.

Quote from: katkavage on October 03, 2023, 08:19:30 AMI will give Daboll another year, regardless. But again, the decision making by management is always suspect here. The problems start at the top. Always. My feeling when there is a big shakeup is not go half way. Tear it down and start over. That meant getting rid of assets like Barkley and Jones to build for the future. And bring in your own people. This patch work approach never works.

I'd agree that Daboll/Schoen would get another year - but be on the hot seat - if they somehow claw their way to a 5-6 win type season.

But the way the team is trending and looking right now, they look worse than they ever did under Reese/Gettleman and if they're in position to draft #1-#2 in the draft, you clean house and let someone new decide what to do.

Quote from: nicky1000 on October 02, 2023, 11:34:57 PMWe may get a QB but Mara will not pull
the plug on this GM/coach regime. Will NOT happen. That said, Kafka/Wink/Disaster Special Teams coach will move
on next year.

If we're in position to pick one of those guys, it means we likely only win 1-2 more games this year. That would represent not only an arrow pointing down, but would be worse than any season Reese or Gettleman had, meaning Schoen made a bad team even worse.

At that point you get a new everything. GM, coach, scouts, and QB. Start from scratch.

Since Daboll's 6-1 start, he's been something like 5-10-1 since. I think the jury's out and this is the real Daboll.

As far as Schoen goes, as I said before, if we're near the top of the draft and looking at QB, a new regime needs to make that call. Schoen already got to pick his QB when he resigned Jones.

Quote from: MagicRat on October 02, 2023, 11:17:45 PMI think, whatever Jones was coming out, his race is run.
Whether he was never good enough or whether we've "David Carr-ed" him is immaterial now.
The guy's pocket radar and field awareness is shot.
Theoretically worse QBs than Jones haven't fallen apart like he has behind bad O lines.

Looks like we're heading for a top five pick so we need to look at a QB.
The bigger question is, do we trust this GM HC combo to continue/start-over the rebuild?

Given 2 drafts so far, I do not.

If we end up in position to draft a QB, I want a new regime making that decision.

Quote from: Ed Vette on October 02, 2023, 11:14:41 PMEleven sacks will have long term damage.

We sacked McNabb 12 times once.

Of course, McNabb was a better QB than Jones has been so far.

Quote from: MagicRat on October 02, 2023, 11:00:21 PMI think that's the million dollar question.
Are we drafting bad players or are we picking out talent and destroying it.
Either way, tonight has a finality about it.

Destroying it is my vote - at least on the OL.

We even have proof when Jerry Jones showed us his board with Evan Neal #2 overall on it. Dallas knows how to draft OL and that's where they had him. How would they have developed Neal compared to how we've done?

Quote from: DaveBrown74 on October 02, 2023, 10:59:36 PMIs Jones even as good a QB as he was when we drafted him in 2019?

No, because Shurmur is a QB whisperer. There's a long line of QBs that Shurmur made look better than they actually were.

Quote from: madbadger on October 02, 2023, 10:53:18 PMJones is gonna cost $47 million against the cap next year. That's two pro bowl guards and a pro bowl mike worth of cap space. Absolutely reckless and moronic contract considering he's thrown more than 15 touchdowns once in his career. Schoen should lose his job for being that foolish.

In retrospect, we should've just signed a journeyman when Jones wanted the big contract and let him move on.

I don't have a lot of faith in either right now.

At this point he's barely Kent Graham.

Quote from: spiderblue43 on October 02, 2023, 09:56:40 PMThis is a last place team. They haven't enough essential units even to be competitive with average teams. And major changes to the staff and serious consideration about the direction now.

It's gonna get uglier guys! ~X(

The problem is the same as it has been the last few regimes. A new regime comes in, shows some hope, then collapses into dust the second year. Highly drafted players regress the moment they put on the uniform. The offensive line fails no matter what resources are thrown at it or who coaches it.

If the pattern continues, we'll lose this game, get washed by Miami, beat Washington (because we always do) to get a little bit of hope, and then the bottom will fall out and we'll be wondering if Schoen/Daboll are here next year.

And with a pattern like this, are Schoen/Daboll even the real problems? Judge, Shurmur, and McAdoo ended up the same way as coaches and Schoen's picks so far aren't looking much better than late-era Reese or Gettleman. Where do we point the finger at this point? How many of the Gettleman and previous era scouts are still in the front office? Does the entire front office need to be cleaned out? Ostensibly Chris Mara and co aren't still influencing drafts since Schoen came in from outside the Giants' "family".

Barring that, John Mara is the only common denominator left and I'm not sure how you'd "fix" him.

Quote from: Jclayton92 on October 02, 2023, 09:57:42 PMI don't know, think eagles game last year the 1st meeting, tyrod comes in with hardly time left and threw for half of what Jones did basically did the whole game

If this team continues down its current path, I'd rather trade Tyrod to some team like the Jets that could use him. A veteran backup is wasted on this team. May as well play DeVito if Jones needs to come out.

Quote from: TDToomer on October 02, 2023, 09:53:21 PMNo it's not. Not compared to the Bears. Do you follow the rest of the NFL. The Bears are getting killed all day on the radio today. Called the most disfunctional team in the league.

First, you might want to fix your grammar before attacking someone else's intelligence.

Second, of course I do. The Bears front office being the joke that it is doesn't mean our front office isn't also a mess, given the players it keeps putting on the field.
