Assuming he wins his 2nd MVP this season?  I'd have to put that answer at a clear....Never.

Quote from: MightyGiants on January 30, 2024, 08:24:27 AMI have to say the title of this post is embarrassing and goes against our slogan-  "Best informed Giants fans"

Suggesting that Daboll, "panicked" is beyond silly

Is it more or less silly than thinking Devito was given a raw deal?  He wasn't good.  He isn't good.  And he's not going to be anything other than a backup if he's lucky.

Quote from: DaveBrown74 on January 28, 2024, 08:00:55 AMI know I'm in the minority but for a second year player who only turned 23 a month ago, I don't think Thibodeaux had that bad of a year personally.

Obviously there is considerable room for improvement and I'm not saying otherwise, but when I compare to what he was as a rookie, I see progress. I also saw progress during his rookie season, as he was much better late in the year than the beginning.

If he continues on his trajectory I think he'll be a household name among edge guys next year.

He had a good season.  And is getting better the more reps he gets.  The only reason he gets a bad rap is that he has the audacity to speak his mind from time to time.  The horror!!

Big Blue Huddle / Re: Best and worst supporting casts

Quote from: MightyGiants on January 26, 2024, 12:57:57 PMIf you believe the NFL's worst team for supporting their QB, just needed a QB to contend, then all I can say is you are entitled to your opinion.   I can't help but remember that the terrible protection contributed to all those injuries, they just weren't "bad luck"

He gets hurt every year though.  An almost competent QB snuck them into the playoffs the year before with a worse cast of characters than this one.  If they had gotten actually competent QB play it's not that far of a leap to suggest they would again make the playoffs.

Quote from: MightyGiants on January 26, 2024, 11:23:13 AMThe Giants were the 5th worse team in the league 2 years ago (according to draft position) when Joe and Brian took over.   Two years later, they are now the 6th worst team (and PFF's worst QB support team) in the league.

I struggle to see how the team has "done that" in terms of building out the team.  Plus with all the coaching drama, I am not even sure they have the most basic foundational piece of proper leadership and culture.

That's not exactly fair.  They did make the playoffs in year one had Devito starting half the games in Year 2.  And he somehow went on a 3 game winning streak which made absolutely no sense.  With a real QB this team would have been in the playoffs again.

Quote from: Stringer Bell on January 26, 2024, 11:35:29 AMNo, he's not right. You don't overpay anyone, especially a RB. The Giants tried to pay him and they rebuffed him. The reason Saquon wasn't paid is because of Saquon and no one else.

Agreed.  The prudent thing to have done was let both walk.  And if they had this place would have erupted into an inferno hellscape as people try to wrap their minds around the idea that the team just went to the playoffs and won a game and now they are simply letting their QB and best offensive player this side of Thomas walk away for nothing.  Even though looking ahead to the future it would have been the right decision, and if they had simply lost a few of those games last year that they were lucky to win, that is exactly what would have happened.

He's right.  If they were going to overpay for one of those guys probably over pay for the one of them that's actually good at their job.  Seems pretty straightforward. I think the reasons things played out the way they did are pretty obvious, selling the fanbase on letting Jones walk after his best season, but from this it makes me think that the players would have understood if they did it.

I don't subscribe to the idea that no position should be drafted high under any circumstances.  Even RB depending on the team's situation though it would have to be a special situation and a special RB to do it.

But I don't think taking a TE at 6 is the right idea for the Giants.  Bellinger and Waller are good (when he's healthy) and they have much bigger needs right now.  I'd rather see them trade a million picks for Caleb Williams than sit tight and take Bowers.

But if the first 5 picks are 3 QBs, Nabers and Marvin Harrison and the Giants are in a spot where it seems Bowers or a tackle are the best prospects left I'd be inclined to discuss trading down slightly for a team that does need Bowers pretty badly.

Big Blue Huddle / Re: How Would you Honestly feel ?
January 24, 2024, 12:29:06 PM
I think the Eagles are a viable location and it would sting a bit because he would go full scorched earth every time they played the Giants but the Giants can't give him the type of contract he's going to get in free agency when they are not a Saquon Barkley away from a title.  They can get similar production for much less money and they can use that money to fix other holes.

Quote from: DaveBrown74 on January 24, 2024, 09:43:13 AMYeah I just can't rationalize it anymore. I was willing to do that for a while, but it has gone off the rails at this point and has gotten so bad that it's starting to feel unsalvageable.

Maybe they can somehow start to turn it around after the break, and I'd obviously welcome that. But right now my expectations for this season have been significantly modified from where they were 5-6 weeks ago.

They were probably never as good as that torrid start of the season they had and probably not as bad as they look right now but as currently constructed it's tough to see a long playoff run coming without some sort of a move or two at the deadline.

The only positive I can see is that despite being a miserable excuse for a team for about 2 months they still are in 1st place with a 5 point lead somehow.  They really need the mental break of the All Star game to try and remember how to play hockey.  Blowing a 2 goal lead to THAT team with yet again 2 goals given up inside of 2 mins of action requires some soul searching.

And that Chytil's season may not be over afterall:

Big Blue Huddle / Re: Wink to the Eagles???
January 22, 2024, 02:17:54 PM
Quote from: ozzie on January 22, 2024, 02:01:52 PMI think Sirianni may be on the "Hot Seat" next season due to the collapse this season. If that's the case, I doubt he would be too worried about what Wink and his guys do or where they sit at lunchtime as long as the defense can produce.

You'd have thought Daboll would believe that too but apparently that didn't happen.  Sirianni seems too preoccupied with how Sirianni looks so I could absolutely see him trying to stick his nose into Wink's business if they have a bad game.  And we all saw the Giants have a few stinkers on defense this season.

If he couldn't get along with Daboll how the hell does he expect to get along with that dope Sirianni?

They must have seen the post when it was 2-0 and decided to get their stuff together.

They needed this win to stop the bleeding and as was mentioned if that 3rd Anaheim goal stands they likely lose. I'm glad they got to feel good after a game for a change but this needs to be a pivot point rather than just a blip on the radar.
