Big Blue Huddle / Re: Farewell DJ

I was really hoping he'd do well enough to end the season that we wouldnt have to go qb in round 1. i dont think we have a choice now. on top of still not being very good, he is now officially injury prone. he's missed a lot of time over his career, and this is the most significant injury yet if indeed a torn acl. im not sure i buy the whole his mobility is shot thing, lots of guys come back fine from acl tears. barkley looked pretty good yesterday. but in any event, its a long shot for him to be ready to start the season next year. i think at this point, we HAVE to draft a qb in round 1, and let them compete in camp. it sucks. hate to see him go out this way. but maybe this was the most direct path to the inevitable.

Quote from: GMenRF on November 03, 2023, 08:36:29 PMWe can argue that was DJ really given a fair shot this year?  Before his injury, he was on pace to be sacked over 100 times this year.  For perspective that's on pace for 30+ more sacks than David Carr.  Yes they got him weapons but without any protection it was more of a disservice to DJ than really being beneficial.

At this point we really have no option but to look for another QB.  Even if DJ balls out the rest of the season, the physical beating he's had over the past 5 years and given with his neck injury, we need a his eventual replacement.

Hopefully a QB that will unite the whole fan base and not divide it like what happened to DJ.

Yeah i really dont know how much longer his body is going to hold up.

Quote from: Giantleap56 on November 02, 2023, 06:43:56 PMI think Daboll has been more of a disappointment. I mean not knowing Jones was cleared and Gano has serious knee issue. That's a guy who hasn't been in command of his team. He has been committing coaching malpractice.

i agree. i am willing to give him benefit of doubt considering its only year 2 and he's learning as he goes. but we need to start seeing results and wins NOW. its been bad.

Quote from: T200 on November 02, 2023, 05:43:41 PMThere were questions about who was responsible for the 2nd-half play calling in the Arizona game. That, coupled with the offensive futility the 2 prior games, gave me the feeling that something was not right with Kafka. After 8 weeks, we have the absolute worst offense in Giants history.

I'm not suggesting that we're going to light up the scoreboard as soon as he cleans out his office. Players still  need to execute. But the OC needs to call plays to put them in the best position to succeed. And I haven't seen that all year.

correct. im sure we cant do MUCH more with someone else calling plays, but hey. it happens. all the time. why not at least try? he's done NOTHING to show (at least this year), that he deserves to keep the job going forward.

Big Blue Huddle / Re: Non QB 1st round targets

Quote from: Philosophers on November 01, 2023, 09:00:35 AMThe 2024 NFL Draft is a bit of a strange one.  Currently, I think the top 10 picks appear to be weighted toward offense instead of defense.  Additionally, I believe the top 10 is particularly weak at Edge/DL.  The only Edge/DE player I have watched who seems to merit potential top 10 consideration is Jared Verse of FSU.  I liked him when I saw him.  He plays very physical with good athleticism.  Verse is only 6'4" 250 pounds so I do not see him projecting to play DT to replace Leonard Williams.  He would be inserted to replace Ojulari if they take him.  I think the greater need would be at DT, but I simply don't see one as a worthy top 10 pick.

My guess is the Giants will look to offense in round 1 given the lack of top shelf defensive players who might get picked in top 10.  If they don't go QB, then I think round 1 is likely to be a WR either Marvin Harrison if he is available or Keon Coleman.  Both would look really good in blue.  Pencil in either as a starting X.  While Neal has been subpar this season, I just can't see them investing in another OT with a top 10 pick.

Assuming the Giants finish with a top 4-6 pick and given the strengths of the 2024 Draft by position, I think it is going to be pretty easy to narrow the list of potential targets for the Giants.

it would be absolutely brutal and probably the coup de grace if schoen picks another tackle that winds up being a bust. at least at another position, it is what it is.

Quote from: Dgoodmantrublu on October 31, 2023, 07:22:04 PMCould not disagree more. This is probably the best QB class since 2004. Caleb and Maye are fantastic. McCarthy and Daniels are very intriguing. And then there are other guys too. It is a great group.

then we shouldnt have to trade up to get one, right?

Quote from: Hadron on November 01, 2023, 10:20:49 AMHow many more coaches/coordinators need to be fired? Jones is a coach killer.

As for the record from last year: they played the AFC South and the NFC North. Both of those divisions were dumpster fires (outside of the Lions and Vikings).

When is Jones going to win division games (aside from Washington)?

a coach killer? have ANY of his HC's or OC's gotten another job? had any success? i havent heard anything about pat shurmur. i havent heard anything about joe judge other than going to NE who is now terrible. those coaches did such a poor job coaching the talent around jones. very few qb's have any success in the same situation he has been in. he's not very good, but coach killer is a ridiculous thing to say.

Quote from: MightyGiants on October 31, 2023, 08:40:38 AMAdmittedly sneaking into the playoffs seemed like the ceiling at this point.   I am somewhat torn as a fan.  On the one hand, if the Giants need to do some major restocking being out of it before Halloween may prove to be the best outcome.  On the other hand, I prefer and enjoy seasons where the Giants are playing meaningful games in December or, better yet, January.

Its a tough existence for us lol

right now, glow is our best OL short of thomas.

Thats honestly a pretty decent week 9 injury report. waller being out sucks, but its time for bellinger to make a name for himself. who is our #2? cager?
#191
think its gonna be another ugly game. 2 awful teams. i think we squeak this one out 17-10. jones throws 1 td and runs for 1. defense puts up another very good effort.

the cowboys game week 1 hurt way more than this. as uncompetitive as sundays game was, we were competitive in it lol. week 1 was an all time undressing.

Quote from: Jolly Blue Giant on November 01, 2023, 06:26:39 PMI personally don't think they are going to roll the dice on a QB unless DJ completely looks lost the rest of the season. They won't get a shot at the "best" QB in the draft and, at "best", the 3rd or 4th "best". To move up to the top pick, it'll cost them half their early draft picks and next year's 1st, and probably more. Just to gamble on a QB coming in HOPEFULLY, ready to be the second coming of Brady or Mahommes. Schoen and Daboll don't seem to be the gambling type willing to take big risks. So I don't see it, but on the other hand (besides 4 fingers and a thumb), anything can happen in this crazy sport with crazy GMs

and still no oline to play behind.

Quote from: EDjohnst1981 on November 01, 2023, 02:44:37 PMIf they draft another OL with another high pick, I think my remote will go through the TV.

it would be frustrating, but if we get a guy that can lock down that right side of the line, its a top 3 need on our team. i just hate that key word, if. neal was supposed to fix this problem and he just made it worse.

Quote from: DaveBrown74 on November 02, 2023, 11:29:40 AMWhat was your view on him at the end of the 2022 season?

Thought he did well with what he had. was creative, smart, and aggressive. put on a good smoke and mirrors show. was happy to see jones in a system that appeared to work, and get a 2nd year with it. problem is, kafka didnt appear to make any adjustments this year and expected everything that worked last year to just work this year. i get the talent level thing, but jesus. not one FULL game this year have we looked remotely competent.
