Quote from: Rambo89 on October 02, 2023, 07:11:05 PMHerbert is an absolute stud.  Watched him yesterday guy has a cannon, poise and instincts to make plays even with a bad offensive line.  He also has decent receivers but not that I would say is an elite WR.

He just lost Mike Williams ans hasnt had Ekeler, he makes it work

Quote from: MightyGiants on October 02, 2023, 06:22:06 PMWhat's important to note those that overcome the poor O-line had good to great receivers.   It's all interconnected.  There are no examples of QBs overcoming poor protection and poor receivers.

DJ has receivers now, some who have been wide open and he doesn't get it to him for one reason or another.

Difference between DJ and the greats is the great ones don't need to be propped up from every direction and then gorilla glued into place.

He is capable of playing very well if he gets the OL and WRs, coaches etc but that is a situation virtually any QB can succeed in. What can he do that others can't, and how has he demonstrated as such?

Everyone has a down week here and there, but the greats are much more consistent, and cook with what they got, and make it work more often than not

I like DJ, I wish him all the success. He was far away our best option for this season and potentially next.

I hope he proves me wrong, but between looking ordinary thus far, and not making plays availabile to him while failing to step up to top teams and look viable, I am starting to get concerned about the season as a whole, and hope (and think tonight will be) a get right game for him and the offense, I think they can put some points up against this D

Quote from: B1GBLUE on October 02, 2023, 01:52:35 PMWhat makes you say breida isnt very good? as of late he looks to have better hands than barkley, and while hes not a game changer, he looks steady. im ok with saying barkley is better. way better. but i dont think that means breida is bad.

I don't think he is a good runner of the football. He is not a threat to anyone. He just JAG as Parcells used to say.

I voted Barkley

Thomas is a better player and bigger loss, but to me EZ has shown some level of competency whereas Breida is just not very good

Quote from: sxdxca38 on September 30, 2023, 01:46:07 PMLove had a good year last year, but he's not doing well this year, and in 2021 and 2020 he was pretty bad.

All in all, he's just a "jag", and maybe he'd help a little on d, but this teams pass rush is abysmal, and he won't be able to cover that up in my opinion.

Isn't he leading Seattle in tackles? I could be wrong, but hes on a new team and system, im not sure that's indicative of how he would be here. But thats fair, but I really wish they kept him.

Quote from: sxdxca38 on September 30, 2023, 09:29:42 AMYeah, I couldn't have said it better myself. Both Slayton and Love are negligible to the outcome of the Giants season.
Quote from: MightyGiants on September 30, 2023, 07:58:05 AMI think this is an interesting topic.  Although, with the problems the Giants have, I don't think either player makes a difference.

Not trying to stir a debate, moreso curious how you both think Love wouldn't help, I feel he was one of our best defenders last year.

To answer the question, I'd have signed Love and passed on Campbell in hindsight. Shame cause I was excited to have him initially

This is year 2 in a rebuild that will take at absolute minimum 3-3.5 years

There are alot of new pieces on both sides of the ball, they are still learning and trying to gel and figure things out. 2 rookie CBs are starting that is a tall task for them. Rookie Center as well.

Letting Love go was a mistake in my opinion, Barkley should have been traded at the deadline and DJ was over paid (don't argue with me over DJ it isn't what I am try to do here, if anyone quotes me to debate it's getting ignored). They have no depth behind Barkley which was a mistake. Should have kept Robinson or added someone else to back him up instead of resigning Bredia in my opinion.

Some guys are being eased back in after suffering injuries a year ago.

The schedule is much tougher and they makers of it did the opening slate no favors for them

As these rookies and returning players gel, get some seasoning and the pieces snap into place, we should see more improvement as the season goes on

We also way overachieved last year

Quote from: MightyGiants on September 28, 2023, 02:33:55 PMReceivers who consistently beat man and zone coverage, win contested catches or create yards after the catch will grade well in the PFF system.  Receivers who fail to separate, fail to catch the ball consistently or fail to create after the catch will grade poorly.

Obviously, a pass thrown their way creates chances to improve or worsen their grade, but they do take into account how they are running routes and if they are getting open.  Considering 3 out of 4 INTs are on the receivers and the Giants are ranked low on separation gained, it's not hard to see how they earned their poor grade, and it has little to nothing to do with Jones (although the O-line likely hurts them as they have less time to achieve separation)

This contradicts your prior statement. This can't be said while also claiming a QB doesn't impact a WR grade

EDIT: The third bolded I did not bold the others

Quote from: Dgoodmantrublu on September 28, 2023, 02:02:23 PMHerbert has often performed much better than Jones in similar circumstances. It's been 5 years. This team needs an upgrade at the position.

I agree

Herbert makes plays under pressure, Keenan, Williams and Ekeler have all missed their share of time and he still produces and plays at a high level even without them. Numbers aren't even close.

He too is on his third offensive coordinator, he has produced extremely well despite that much turnover. Jones has never come close to breathing that same air.

If Mahomes is a 10, Herbert is a 9, and DJ is a 6.

Joe Burrow made it to a Super Bowl with an OL worse than what we have, protection matters, but the great ones find a way to make it work.

Jones has left many plays on the table, he has missed them. I don't care if some claim his internal clock is messed up from the poor OL play, the plays were there with a pocket available to him, he has to make it work when they are there for the taking. Look at Eli against SF in the NFCCG, took an absolute beating for 60 minutes, but he stepped up, shook it off, and did not let it make him play scared. He did what he had to do

Jones is good, but he is not great, and if we need a fairy tale dream scenario for him to have a CHANCE to succeed, he never will be great, he is what his resume says he is. A good, solid QB, nothing more, nothing less.

Quote from: DaveBrown74 on September 28, 2023, 09:39:27 AMAgreed. If we beat Seattle everyone will think we're going to wreck the Dolphins in Miami the week after. If we then lose that people will think we're picking in the top five.

How long before the Caleb Vs Maye topics begin?

Big Blue Huddle / Re: Is the issue expectations?

Quote from: T200Brown on September 28, 2023, 07:17:59 AMProblem isn't expectations. It's poor performance on the field.

I agree with this.

I'll never have low expectations, all teams should always aspire to win and succeed to the highest level. Their play simply has not been able to cut it.

Quote from: Rambo89 on September 27, 2023, 01:41:02 PMThat's the difference between an Average QB and an Elite one.  That's the difference between the Chiefs with Alex Smith and the Chiefs with Patrick Mahomes.

True, Mahomes literally took over the team Alex Smith was running.
