Quote from: Painter on January 12, 2024, 04:32:45 PMWhat has bothered me about this past season more than the obvious lack of improvement was the lack of ambition, motivation, and preparation with which the team began the season and displayed for much of its 1-5/ 2-8 start. I feel strongly that the Giants was ill-prepared to begin the season and played below its capability far too often.

If I am justified in my thinking, I don't have much of an option or alternative but to blame Head Coach, Brian Daboll. In the interest of fairness and positive thinking, I will leave it at that, and an expectation of improvement whatever may be the circumstances.

Cheers!

I agree 100%. They looked like a team that wasn't ready to start the season. Then as the season went on injuries kept them from gelling. Well, injuries and a deficit of talented players.

Screw them!! I'd just as soon watch reruns of Joanie Loves Chachi than subscribe to a streaming service, in what amounts to PPV, just to watch a game that I don't even care who wins.

Quote from: uconnjack8 on January 09, 2024, 12:13:59 PMIf he resigned, I highly doubt the Giants would stop him from taking another job.  That's petty.
I don't see how they could stop him if he resigns.

The last couple nights I've been watching Columbo episodes on Tubi. So tonight I decided to watch season 1, episode 1. A bit of trivia from that episode, or at least it was information that I was previously unaware of. The episode was written by Steven Bochco (Hill Street Blues, LA Law, NYPD Blue), and was directed by a then 24 year old Steven Spielberg.

Quote from: Jolly Blue Giant on December 28, 2023, 04:02:35 PMActually, Boeheim was replaced months ago and the basketball team is playing well under Adrian "Red" Autry. They are moving away from the zone. But win or lose, there is always passion for the basketball team...not so much for the football team. There was excitement when Dino Babers took over the program six or seven years ago, but he never got it beyond mediocre. Under new HC Fran Brown, if the team goes on a win streak and knocks off some quality teams, the fan base will be back and stronger than ever and Orange fans will be rockin like the days of old when they had the likes of Jim Brown, Floyd Little, Larry Csonka, Dwight Freeny, Marvin Harrison, Tim Green, McNabb, etc.

Don't forget the Jones kids at SU, Arthur and Chandler Jones. They also went to my, and our kid's, high school, UEHS. Arthur graduated with, and was good friends with our daughter. I  don't think their brother Jon "Bones" Jones, MMA/UFC Champion, went to SU however.

Quote from: Jolly Blue Giant on December 28, 2023, 10:13:07 AMMust be no SU football fans on here  :hmm:   :(

Regardless, since I submitted that post yesterday, two more SU players who were slated for the NFL draft, have chosen to return for their senior year.

The tri-fecta of SU's NFL draft prospects have all decided to return for one more year. I mentioned their star WR (called TE, but a WR) Oronde Gadsden II was returning, but now their star LB Marlowe Wax (6-1/230) with 108 tackles, four forced fumbles, four sacks, and one interception this past season is returning. Also, the teams best DB (mostly safety, but also plays nickel and has lined up as a WILL) DB Justin Barron announced yesterday that he's returning

So, there will be no Syracuse players in the upcoming draft. Even if you don't follow Orange football - I believe they will be a team next season that will surprise a lot of people. For those of you who bet on football games, this is primo info...LOL

In addition to the previous info, Fadil Diggs...Texas A&M's leading DE/ER, has committed to SU. He is the younger brother of Dallas Cowboy's Trevon Diggs (Alabama alum)

A little harder for me to watch SU football and basketball now that I'm out west. Never missed games on TV or occasionally in person when I lived in Endicott, but they've slipped from my consciousness out here. I'll try to make more of an effort to catch them when I can.

Quote from: Philosophers on December 28, 2023, 12:01:31 PMLastly there are certain high schools that have a reputation for producing top high school QBs.  Schools like Mater Dei and Oaks Christian Academy — both are within an hour of USC.

Our daughter teaches at Oaks Christian.

Quote from: Bob In PA on December 28, 2023, 07:28:19 AMSteve: Two thoughts/questions... first, ave you come across programs (or categories of programs) that won't run on Linux? I don't know, but suspect, that programs requiring what I call "copy protection" may not run.

For example, one of my computers is used as a recording studio for producing music. I have software from various companies that either requires a "dongle" (special USB key) to run, or the "copy protection" is in a cloud which you need to access every time you boot the program.

Second (again I don't know the answer, but wonder) since the question asked concerns security, it would appear that keeping a Windows partition on the same drive might expose the drive (including, perhaps, the Linux partition?) to invasion by the bad guys.

Bob

Bob,

The few applications that I currently use are also written to run on Linux, but for certain there are some apps out there that are Windows-exclusive. But some of the Linux (and there are many), distributions also include something called WINE, which is a Windows compatibility layer. This allows Windows applications and games to run on Linux systems. Wine can also be manually installed for free if it's not included on a particular distribution. Additionally there are tons of open source (free) applications written for Linux that will do the same thing that the Windows applications will do.

For your second question, yes, it would be less likely, but still technically possible for a certain type(s) of virus to infect your PC while in Windows, to bugger up your PC, generally at a machine level, thus ultimately affecting Linux.

Linux isn't for everyone I get that, I'm just speaking from my own experience. If you use a PC to do more than internet and email there is a learning curve to using Linux, though mine was a bit less since I had experience working as a UNIX System Administrator for a time several years ago. But for the "internet and email" folks a few days with Linux Mint and Cinnamon and you'd have to be dragged back to Windows kicking and screaming.  ;)

No need to run any antivirus utility if you install Linux. 8))  And before you say you can't, if my wife can use Linux anyone can use it, seriously. Reinstall your old PC with, say Linux Mint with the Cinnamon desktop environment and try it. It's very Windows-like and very intuitive. Pretty sure you'd never go back to Windows. I bought my laptop with Windows 10 in it. First thing I did was to partition the hard drive and install Linux as a second operating system. I can boot to either Windows or Linux, but I never even boot to the Windows side. And now that my warranty is over I'll eventually just wipe Windows and go 100% Linux.
