While tanking is the ideal outcome, i can never get on board with it. i dont wait all year to watch 17 weeks of ball for nothing. although it amounted to nothing, joe judges first season where we finished strong down the stretch was inspiring. we need to evaluate for next year. we also need to learn how to win. you cant do that intentionally losing every week.

Quote from: DaveBrown74 on November 02, 2023, 10:34:32 AMExactly. The fan base is very reactionary. But our owner has been too.

im usually one to look for some type of silver lining or positive. but you cant argue with results. we are beyond god awful. the season is lost already. i do agree with what someone above posted about finally playing with some type of healthy iteration of the line, and with barkley. i dont mind another game or two. but seriously if we keep putting up sub 20 points every week, something has to give. even last year we could barely put up points.

Quote from: TDToomer on November 02, 2023, 09:54:18 AMI have a different angle. Get out of that comfy warm sky booth and get your ass onto the sidelines and work face to face with your QB and his players while they are off the field. Why isn't he on the sidelines?

Is there any evidence OC's on the sidelines have more success than booth guys?

we are currently ranked 32nd in basically EVERY single category. yes there have been injuries and personnel issues, but this is as bad as it gets. you never know, sometimes changing things up can create a spark.

Quote from: Philosophers on October 31, 2023, 12:58:36 PMBy the time the 2024 draft rolls around, I believe Caleb Williams will not be the #1 pick.  Maybe 3rd QB off the board.

Year over year, I think McCarthy has developed the most.  His football IQ and processing during a play are good.  I want to watch his accuracy on long throws in tight coverage as I want to see him get more air under those throws as opposed to ropes.

i am more impressed with him than caleb, though calebs game is more electric. that doesnt necessarily mean he's better.

Big Blue Huddle / Non QB 1st round targets
October 31, 2023, 01:22:49 PM
i dont think its an absolute that we draft a qb with our first pick. its a pretty deep qb draft, can probably get a decent one with one of our 2nd round picks.

personally, i'd rather get 3 impact players with our 1, and 2 2's.

So, are there any players that you would love to get with our 1st round pick that isnt a qb? and why?

Quote from: MightyGiants on October 31, 2023, 08:34:03 AMThe narrative that seems to have been confirmed by the Giants is that DJ saw his spine specialist before the game and was cleared for contact.  The Giants couldn't activate him for the game because they designated him "out" Friday.

Now I can understand the reluctance to play DJ on Sunday.  The Jets defense is fierce, and it was supposed to be rainy, and DJ hadn't practiced with the offense for three weeks (he was taking scout team snaps when he was cleared to practice with no contact).

Still, when Tyrod got hurt (which came as a surprise to no one), DJ, without practice with the offense, would have been a superior option to DeVito, whom the coaches didn't trust to pass the ball.   Had DJ come in for Taylor, the odds of winning the game would have been substantially higher.

to answer the original question, no i dont think so. this season isnt going anywhere. that game didnt exactly inspire me to think that hey if we win we can do something here. it was one of the worst games ive ever seen. so does it give us a better chance of winning? of course. did it cost us the season? i dont believe so.

Quote from: kingm56 on October 31, 2023, 08:26:17 AMKeith Hamilton was affectionately known as "The Hammer."  He played in the early 2000's when the Giants converted from a 3-4 to 4-3 front; he played the 3-technique for the majority of his career, where Dex plays the 1-technique. However, Hammer was versatile and capable of playing 1, 3 or 5 techniques; he recorded double sacks as both a DT and LE and was the Giants' best defensive player before the great Strahan immerged.  Even the best C/Gs in the league had problems pushing Hammer off the spot...he was really good at holding the POA and Gap control...you did not run at Hammer.  Keith was a really good DT, but will never be considered for the HoF.  Dex is on a similar trajectory; unless things change, it's just way too early to even bring up the HoF.

probably true. i just get annoyed that he doesnt get the respect he deserves. is there any player in the league playing better at their position right now?

Quote from: kingm56 on October 31, 2023, 06:37:15 AMWhile Dex numbers are impressive, I think it's highly premature to discuss his 'legacy.'  To date, he's 'only' accumulated 132 solo tackles and 19.5 sacks; compare those numbers to Keith Hamilton, who at this point in his career had 31 sacks and 127 solo tackles (note – the NFL did not compile tackle data during Hamilton's first year).  At this point in their career, Hamilton has objectively better numbers; also, both players received 1x All-Pro recognition.  Keith Hamilton is remembered as a good tackle, but won't be confused with a HoF player.  At this point in time, the same is true for Dex; while he's a good player, he's not close to Aaron Donalds' level of production, which is to say, he's not close to HoF consideration.  To that point, it's entirely too early to talk about legacy...

fair enough. but this is what annoys me about "production aka sack stats". there have been plenty of guys who put up good sack numbers. and keith hamilton is before my time. was he a nose tackle?

"Dexter Lawrence, though, is if anything a bargain. He was a monster (again) yesterday, grading an almost perfect 95.0. For the season, he is the NFL's highest graded interior defensive lineman at 92.4, and the NFL's second highest graded defender at any position (behind only Myles Garrett). His 44 total pressures are tied for the NFL lead at any position with Nick Bosa. That's right, more than all the other NFL edge defenders, even Micah Parsons (43). Yesterday Lawrence had 15 total pressures by PFF's reckoning (1 sack, 4 QB hits). NextGenStats counts things differently - they had him with "only" 12 pressures, after having had 8 last week - no other player at the 0-technique position (nose tackle) has generated more than 5 pressures in a game since they began keeping track in 2016"

These are some of the most ridiculous, dominating stats i have ever seen. If he keeps up this type of play, do you think he will be a HOF candidate?  I know he's basically only had 2 seasons of this type of play so far, and he still doesnt have chris jones or aaron donald type of notoriety. but anyone who truly appreciates the game of football has to realize he is a top 15 player in this league. and he's doing things at his position that are absolutely unheard of. i dont even know what to compare it to. its like a defensive end getting 10 int on the season. its that level of dominance. i LOVE having this guy on the team.

Quote from: Fast Eddie Felson on October 30, 2023, 02:30:47 PMThe issue has been talked about much. Apparently, the ref only needs to touch the ball on the ground and this is considered a placement, but I`d still like confirmation from the NFL.

Why couldnt we do this at the 1 yard line when we ran out of time

The more and more i hear and see about him, im not interested. if he falls to the second (will never happen) i'd take him. but i want an absolute GAMER with our 1st pick. someone whos shown consistent excellence against the toughest competition. i dont follow college football all that closely, so dont ask me who that is.
