Big Blue Huddle / Re: Bo in Blue?

We must not go Bo.

In addition sacked 9 times and NO turnovers. If Jones played today and was sacked 9 times how many of you would think he would complete 69% of his passes, throw for 3 td's, and have a QB rating of 137 with no turnovers? Based on previous experience you just know there would have been at least a fumble, and a pick with Jones at QB. Now I'm not crowning DeVito as the next Unitas, no way. I've referred to him on this board as Tommy effing DeVito, and a North Jersey metaphor, but in fairness the kid impressed me today. Good for him.

Is today an example of what Daboll can do with his own QB? DeVito did not make Jones look good today.

Big Blue Huddle / Re: NFT: NY Rangers 2023 - 2024 Season

Quote from: Jaime on November 18, 2023, 04:20:25 PMThe deciding key for allowing a disputed Goal is when did the whistle blow and is there clear visual evidence that the Puck crossed the Goal Line prior the Whistle sounding. In both cases, I thought there was clear evidence that the whistle had not blown and the Puck had crossed the Goal Line.
I too thought the reasoning for "NO Goal" was unacceptable by the Referee.

Huge Tilt on tap tonite at the Rock in Newark, NJ. Devils superstar Hughes has already played this week and should be rounding into form.
Was thinking Shesty and Chytil might return to the LIneup. During Chytil's absence, Marchand was superb scoring Goals, throwing the body (as well as his fists), he was superior on the Dot,  clocked at 63%. Our Former Norris Trophy winner,  Adam Fox suffered a strained MCL  knee ligament (and just guessing) Fox has at least another week - ten days before returning to the Lineup.

So tonight the whistle blew and they allowed the Devil goal. Even though the Devils scored on the PP that was a beautiful hit by Trochek on J. Hughes. Every time J Hughes is on the ice he should be the recipient of some rough physical play. A body check, a cute slash to the ankle, a chop on the wrist(I don't care about penalties), shoot the dam puck at him with the appearance that it's part of the normal course of the game. As a Ranger fan I want him diminished or out. Period. Go ahead and call me whatever. Yeah I know he's good for the game, the only thing I care about is what's good for the Ranger's game.

Big Blue Huddle / Re: So when Eli says stick with DJ
November 16, 2023, 03:16:36 PM
Before Eli gave his stick with Jones opinion did he ask Daboll why he threw the Microsoft Surface? I/m/o that was the moment Daboll knew it won't be Jones leading them to the promised land. It probably went down something like the following. Daboll "didn't you see xyz we went over this scenario 1000x, and you told me you got it" Jones in his best Ralph Kramden imitation replied "a humina humina humina".

No one knows what will happen tomorrow, let along six months from now. If I change my mind I'll let you know.

In the meantime, the Giants are still kicking themselves for what they believe to have been unfair treatment of Jones (i.e., not giving him an OL and an elite WR to work alone with him and Barkley). Until they change their collection minds about that situation, they will not draft a high-1st-round QB, unless their scouts/coaches/GM all agree that they would be passing up the "Next Peyton/Elway/Brady" (or some other equivalent talent).

Bob

It's Mara who is kicking himself, he said it. However his cash register chimes each and every day regardless who is at QB. The people getting kicked are the fans. I hope that this latest failure both the Giants as a whole and the Jones experiment has Mara finally letting those he hired do their jobs without interference. Maybe the latter was part of the compromise for signing Jones which included the two year out.

Everyone is talking Williams and Maye, probably rightly so. All the hype though does cloud the picture. I'm looking for college QB's that have the skills, raw material that can be refined/developed into a starting/winning/franchise type QB. I've taken notice of Brady Cook from Missouri.

Daboll(and Schoen) inherited a flawed at best roster and cap hell. He coaxed the best he could last year out of a QB from Duke who was drafted by a GM who would try to win the Indy 500 with an Edsel. The contract given to Jones was a compromise between Mara and his new leadership. Thus the two year out built in. I don't have proof of this but reading between the lines. Mara won't learn from his mistakes at least he hasn't at the time of this writing. Why? No matter what the Giants' record is the team makes money, and increases in value. He will never feel the financial pain he should for putting out this inferior product year after year. B/t/w I've been a diehard since 1965(9 yrs. old), a few weeks ago I compiled a W-L regular season record since then. They are 420-474. They are a historically losing franchise despite the four trophies. The one constant during that span of time is the Mara family. Every new coach/regime particularly one that comes from an offense background, and has vast experience being mentored by Masters of the profession should have their own QB. Period. McAdoo(remember him) wanted/pleaded to move up and draft Mahomes. Nah said Mara we've got Eli. EVERYONE knew Eli was on the 17th hole of an 18 hole career, but nah. Bill had Phil, Tom had Eli. Brian will rightfully get his QB. Then we'll see........

Wow, talk about a public execution......(my mind's eye just flipped to the scene in Blazing Saddles where the "doomed" and his horse were hung together)

50. The game in unbettable. They lost the opener at home by 40 with a full complement or close to it. Now on the road at 2-7 with a laundry list of injuries, AND Tommy effing DeVito at QB. Plus Dallas is now at home coming off a tough divisional loss. This gets ugly early.

The race is on for the bottom. Based on recent past performance one would think that both DeVito and Barkley(Matt) have a limited "shelf" life eventually leaving the QB role to one of us. I don't see the Giants winning another game which will include the carnage this coming Sunday in big D. So that leaves us at 2-15(ouch), and if the Bears, and Cardinals outlose us mazel tov to them on their accomplishment. So where does that leave Schoen & Daboll Inc.? First, notice how silent Mara is. We can hope that after he wipes himself with the paper that his compromise contract(2 yr out) to Jones is written on he tells Schoen & Daboll Inc. I'll hold up my end of the bargain and get out of your way, you have free reign. We can all now exhale. I am as an amateur scout now somewhat less enamored with the prohibitive favorite 1-2 QB picks. One would have to think that S&D will have a 3rd and 4th choice of QB that they feel can be developed. It's not what they've done in college(hype and all), but where Daboll thinks a prospect has the right tools he can help develop. Think Brock Purdy per se. If we land on #3 either trade out to no lower than 6 or 7 for a boatload of picks, or pluck Marvin Harrison Jr., and get your QB later. I love draft capital, and draft picks. They spell HOPE for me, and frankly that's all we have right now.

Quote from: andrew_nyGiants on November 06, 2023, 11:32:59 AMYou don't think that Mara is the reason that DJ was given every opportunity and ultimately signed to an extension?

"We did everything we could to ruin the kid" ??

To me, strongly suggesting that they give DJ the QB which is the most important position on the team every opportunity; is a major meddle in my book.

No doubt in my mind the contract given to DJ was a compromise between Mara, and Schoen/Daboll. Thus the two year out. DJ gets compensated, and then he's gone. I believe he has taken his last snap as a Giant.

Why should things change? The way to shock Mara into acting, or just getting the f out of the way is the result of all this losing having a negative impact on the bottom line. The price for trotting out 3rd, 4th , and fifth stringers should be a financial loss. Regardless if they go 2-15 or 15-2 they're going to make a pile of money. The question should be put to Mara thusly, hey John suppose you have a subscription to the Philharmonic, and they trot out the 4th violinist as Concert Master, the conductor is a nut with a wand, and the guy playing piano had his latest gig in the Port Authority subway station. Would you go, and spend money? Free parking, a $1,000 refund to all seat license owners, and a reduction in ticket prices is a good place to start. He needs to feel pocket pain to effect a change. How many companies would go out of business for putting forth such a terrible product? B/t/w this losing is not new. Several weeks ago I compiled a regular season W-L record since 1965. They were at that time 420-474. Despite the four SB wins, and their status as a flagship franchise they are a historically losing organization.
