Big Blue Huddle / Re: Wink "resigns" from the Giants

Quote from: SlotCorner on January 08, 2024, 03:55:24 PMI'm torn about this one. I love Wink's attacking style of defense and its obvious players like playing for him, but the defense has not been in the top 10 while he's been here. Especially in stopping the run, they haven't been dominant.

Let's see who they hire before I get upset.

A Wink defense probably needs at least three good pass rushers. We have one and a guy thats injured 50% of the time. Pretty miraculous Wink got as much as he did from this group.

This is a damned shame.

Quote from: Ed Vette on December 28, 2023, 01:39:12 PMNope, DJ had 24 TD's his rookie season and a 5.2 TD % compared to DT's 4.5%.The Eagles were on their way to shellacking TD in an embarrassing loss. He surely would have lost the last two games. He can't stand in the pocket and deliver a pass because he's too short so he's forced to the sidelines. He can't hit Jalin Hyatt deep because he needs to set up perfectly to throw a deep pass. He missed several open receivers this past game because he holds the ball too long just like Jones. He's more agile in the Pocket but he's slow-footed compared to Jones who had 1900 yards rushing and 13 Touchdowns to add to his passing TD's.

TD hasn't proven anything other than he was a flash in the pan with a gimmick, while spending a lot of time cashing in on his 15 minutes of fame instead of preparing for the Eagles. Contrary to DJ who is the first one in and the last one out of the building and the farthest thing from an attention whore. While Daniel Jones has impeccable character.

I like my fellow Paisan but he needs to put in a lot more work and a lot more time before he can be considered a starter in this league, let alone a Backup. I'm not saying he can't do it. I'm saying he's proven to be a work in progress.

And this Ed, is why you get your balls broken by knowledgeable Members of this Group who care about the integrity of the site and the quality of the content. Love the enthusiasm, lose the baseless hype.

If Waller catches that ball and takes it for a score do you think we're still having this conversation?

Big Blue Huddle / Re: So how do we collect the pieces

Quote from: kartanoman on December 25, 2023, 08:57:15 PMWell, this game shows the defense needs players who don't get blown off the line and who can tackle.

On offense, fix the damn line, once and for all, both players and coaches. I agree a WR1 would go a long way and even a stud TE in the George Kittle class would be a tremendous help to the line.

Upgrade all positions with speed where you can. Special teams needs all the help it can get. I, personally, am very much open to improving the punter as I'm still not 100% sold on Gillen and it has nothing to do with today and his kicking through an injury.

Lots of passion on drafting a QB here. If the Giants didn't have so many other needs, I might be open to it. That said, if a bona-fide game changer is available, that represents the continuation of the line of legends from Benny Friedman to Eli Manning, I am open to considering it.

Peace!

I believe bad tackling was the single biggest culprit in last night's loss.

That would be really weird and unfortunately if true would confirm our worst fears about Mara Meddling.

Quote from: Jolly Blue Giant on December 22, 2023, 04:45:01 PMQuinn Ewers has climbed up the prospect list. He would be a good prospect to groom. Right now, he's too skinny (6-2.5 / 195), but he's got a heck of an arm, has the moxie of a good QB, and is "QB Smart". Only 20 years old, I'm surprised he declared. He needs beefing up and NFL seasoning. He is a project for a team willing to wait a couple years before he's capable of taking the reins now and then. I would be much happier for us to take him in the 3rd round, rather than rolling the dice on a first round QB

He even has the balls to wear a mullet...LOL

All of the top prospects seem smallish. Except for Drake. It used to be 6'3" was like the cutoff.

Quote from: Brooklyn Dave on December 22, 2023, 04:35:09 PMIf McCarthy is available in the second round I would take him. I doubt Nix will be . Daniels definately will not be .

I'm really having a hard time reading how nfl teams value McCarthy.

Quote from: Ed Vette on December 22, 2023, 03:36:03 PMPat has excellent but I think he's retired. What did you think of Colombo?

According to Wikipedia Pat is the offensive line coach for Rutgers.

I don't have much of a feeling on Columbo, however I believe he is highly regarded by his peers and has some good credentials and a strong resume...and seeing on how the Joe Judge situation played out I'm feeling like we have our answer.

Quote from: Ed Vette on December 22, 2023, 01:38:06 PMIt's hard to say. The injuries set him back a great deal. Also, his Coach doesn't seem to be able to develop Ezeudu, Peart, McKeathan and JMS either. He's going to get another crack at it according to Schoen. So even the men who work with him every day don't know.

Way off topic, but in hindsight and in light the video we discussed recently, it was probably a bad move to dismiss Pat Flaherty to begin with.

Quote from: Jclayton92 on December 22, 2023, 01:20:05 PMHe was injured during long stretches of both seasons and only played in a total of 20 games counting 2 playoff games.

Injured is not getting it done. I know that sounds unfair but sometimes that's the trajectory of some careers. I've really had my fill of those "when he's healthy" players. The most important ability is availability. There's a reason why guys like Darren Waller are affordable.

If McCarthy were still there I'd consider us very fortunate. But as long as I've watched this team usually there's 4 or 5 guys that we buzz about leading up to the draft and when the time comes every one of them is gone, unless you're in the top 5.

Quote from: Ed Vette on December 22, 2023, 12:47:45 PMHe may want to move on from the Giants. They may come to an agreement. I don't know how that would work but he hinted.

It's always weird wherever Barkley is concerned.
