I am wondering if they just underestimated Carr a bit.  Wouldn't be surprised if the thinking for the defensive side of the ball was something along the lines of, "We don't have to blitz.  We can sit back and he will make mistakes on his own."  Well, didnt work out too well.

Quote from: uconnjack8 on December 18, 2023, 12:57:26 PMWhen you say misses, are you talking about balls he didn't throw? Or ones that were not well placed?

He was 17-21 against the Packers, there weren't many incompletions.
Balls that were not well thrown.

Gilbride told them this in late 2012 and was ignored then fired after 2013.  Flaherty said the same and was fired.

Quote from: Ed Vette on December 18, 2023, 11:20:18 AMUntil yesterday he had a good completion percentage and I don't recall many swing passes and flats but I do see some poor execution by the receivers and in blocking those swings and screens.
He had some bad easy misses on Monday against the Packers.  Had some yesterday, as well.  Yes, receivers dropped a few too.  Hyatt has at least 3 the last 2 weeks.

Quote from: killarich on December 17, 2023, 03:57:39 PMI for one never said the kid was a star but as a fan I hoped we could see something out of him ..... but who doesn't hope for another surprise star like Victor Cruz ?

But it's also pretty obvious we need a  #1 receiver and at LEAST 2 more options on the O-line

This team needs QB of the future .... But I now rather just build the team then insert a qb

Every qb that we have played this season has limped , concussed or been straight injured

Like Jones or not .... I rather not have another qb go through that o-line he'll be did
People say this with every UDFA.  I guess if they say it often enough, eventually they will be right.  Same with late round OL picks.  People always think they are going to be the same as Diehl.  Not going to happen to often.

Quote from: Ed Vette on December 18, 2023, 11:10:53 AMIf he can't execute a short game and get the ball out in less than 2 seconds, he can't be the backup on this team. Not with that Offensive Line and given the history, I have no confidence that it's going to be better than it has the last ten years. Priority one is to find and retain an excellent Oline Coach.
Based on some of his terrible misses the past few games.  I do not think he can execute a consistent short game.

I don't even know the schedule, who's going to be on the roster, how they will look in camp and pre-season, or what state the opposition will be in.
yes, "accepting".  As in, you have resigned yourself to an 0-1 or 0-whatever start?

Quote from: Ed Vette on December 18, 2023, 10:59:46 AMThe interesting thing will be after the Eagles kick the xxxx out of the Giants, will Daboll start Tyrod the remaining two games? I don't know why they didn't have a plan for DeVito to have a short game. It's clear now that opposing Defenses will blitz and contain Tommy while isolating the coverage on Man. I know they want him to read through his progressions but they're killing themselves because they can't run the ball and he's looking down field on everything and not hitting his checkdowns. He's been waiting for his men to get open and it wasn't there yesterday. His protection was pure crap yesterday too!
Maybe this is the plan.  Put him in a ridiculously hard situation and see how he handles it?  However, with some of his misses on short throws, not sure he can execute any plan.

Quote from: T200 on December 18, 2023, 10:30:48 AMIt's the right move, IMHO. I firmly believe that Jones won't be ready to start the season. The game 1 starter will either be TD Tommy or the rookie they draft.
So, you are accepting a loss on opening day next year?

1) they are not playing at home.

2) they are not grooming for anything.  Daboll knows they have no chance of winning this game, so play the kid.

3) Daboll knows he sucks, but he is playing the hand he is dealt.

4) They can find someone cheaper and better than Taylor as a back-up, so need to extend him.

I remember when people on here felt that Will Hernandez was ALMOST as good as Quinton Nelson and to get him in the 2nd round was a steal.  Yeah, and I am almost as good as Quinton Nelson, too.

Quote from: drewsg on December 18, 2023, 10:05:53 AMIt's not a surprise that this goes hand in hand with the OL falling off.

It fell off under Jerry Reese. Gettlemen couldn't fix it, though coincidentally, he's given us our best offensive lineman since Chris Snee. Most of Schoen's pieces haven't panned out either. When you couple this with average *at best* QB play, it's no wonder why we can't win any games unless the schedule is super easy. Move up to grab a QB. Use R2 picks for OL and I think that would help. The defense is fine, they just need help from complimentary football.
Not sure how we can say the defense is fine?  The Saints moved the ball at will in the 2nd half yesterday.  They do well and put up big numbers against lousy teams.  Otherwise, they have been pretty terrible.

Quote from: bldevil on December 18, 2023, 01:46:35 AMI'm just half-amazed and half-angry.  All of these linemen, even the worse lineman on the worse offensive line in the NFL, succeeded very well in high school.  He was taught how to handle defensive line stunts in high school, and he succeeded at high school.

Then he went to college.  He handled defensive line stunts in college, just as he was taught in high school, and he succeeded very well in college.  Otherwise he wouldn't even be invited to an NFL tryout.

Then he joins the Giants.  And now he can't handle simple defensive line stunts.
In HS, the stunts are not as sophisticated with the delays.  It usually happens immediately before the OL actually engage and most of your opponents are not nearly as talented as these guys were.

As for the OP, from what I remember, it was "feel".  Most zone blocking schemes call for 2 OL to be responsible for 2 defensive players.  Issue becomes when the G-T are working together, but they run a stunt that has the 5-tech looping in to the A gap where it may be the Center's responsibility and the C just doesnt see it or the G doesn't get a piece of him.   But, that is just thinking out loud.  I would really need to watch every play to try to figure out how the Giants are running it.

Quote from: DaveBrown74 on December 18, 2023, 09:04:37 AMI guess part of the value also is just marketing your business to the general public and potentially generating future business (days/weeks/months/years after the player's appearance) that you might not have gotten otherwise. Hard to measure and attribute that, but I would imagine it's on business owners' minds when they do these types of deals. Not my area of professional expertise though so that is just a guess.
Turns out, they were charging $50 an autograph.  So, at $10,000 they to see 200 tickets just to break even.  Not easy to do.

Quote from: DaveBrown74 on December 18, 2023, 07:31:28 AMDeVito needs to fire this Stellato guy and get a real agent. Stellato has been all about promoting his own 15 minutes of fame rather than spending all his time trying to get DeVito better gigs. Making $10k for a sandwich shop is nice, but I feel like he could have gotten a deal done with Jersey Mike's (seems like an obvious fit) or other bigger brands. Maybe I'm wrong about that, but Stellato seems to be hogging the spotlight for such a small-time agent. It's fine if that's how he wants to play it, but I'd think about getting someone more serious if I were DeVito.
He is not getting an ad campaign with Jersey Mike's.  He is not Eli.  This was a one-time appearance.  Something all of these guys do.  I have been in the business and NO WAY would I pay him $10K for an appearance.   Part of the money for the promoters is selling signed stuff of the player afterwards.  Within 2 weeks, all of that signed product will be worthless.  Now, if the store was doing this just to get people in and to show-off their place, that is one thing.  From what I understand, it is a new store to the town.  So, the autographs might be free and a write-off for the store.  Most of these are not.  My friend did this with his ice cream store.  Had Jessie Armstead in when he first started coaching.  He paid Armstead, charged $20 per autograph.  Didnt make much with the autographs, but said he did VERY well with ice cream sales that day, so it was worth it.
