Big Blue Huddle / Re: Wan 'Dale appreciating the moment

Quote from: TDToomer on December 12, 2023, 08:48:46 AMWith his and Hyatts speed why aren't we calling more duo post & fly route plays.

Two things...lack of pass protection holding up long enough to get the guys downfield and open along with QB play of which Jones refused to throw deep and Devito does but just without the elite arm strength/accuracy to do it consistently. I think the way they're handling this is about as good as we can ask.  Don't make this kid have to go and win games on his own, let him play within himself with what he is capable of doing and hope the defense wins the games which...has been working.

Quote from: BluesCruz on December 12, 2023, 07:39:15 AMIf I might inject.....that is a strange thing to say about a QB who is improving by the game

Has us on a playoff possible trajectory and has everyone in the organization turned around

What would you like to see?  Walk on water?

Yesterday was extremely windy and did not lend itself to long downfield passing which I predict will be his next transformation. Who thought he could run the ball like that? He has a magical arm. Elite? Close enough

If you want to call someone out its Barkley
He fails to advance the ball on 80% of his carries, cannot break a tackle and yesterday fumbled the ball with no one near him nearly costing us the game

Tommy had to pull one more rabbit out of his hat to correct that hot mess.

Barkley should be part of a rotation.  This desire to keep him out there for 99% of the snaps despite his faults is mindboggling- making Tomy's job unnecessarily more difficult

I submit our inability to sustain drives comes directly from Barkleys inability to run to a manageable 3rd down attempt.  We are always in 3rd and long

Barkley literally broke through a tackle to score one of his...checks notes...two TDs in the game.  He screwed up at the end but there wouldn't be an end to screw up if not for him.

Your cousin Tommy is not playing great...he's just not the train wreck the Giants were dealing with before.  If not for a ridiculous amount of turnovers by the opposition these past few weeks they'd still be losing games.  It's not like the offense is carrying this team, if anything the defense is. That last TD was the first time I looked at him and thought THAT is what a QB should look like.  And it's great that he did it.  But we are far away from handing him the keys to the castle.

Quote from: kingm56 on December 12, 2023, 12:58:39 AMI'm trying to decipher if this thread is more about DJ than Devito.  To be clear, you would start the latter over the former?

With each win it becomes more and more likely that next year that will be the choices: Jones or Devito. And if those are the only two options available to me I'm picking Devito.

Quote from: killarich on December 11, 2023, 11:57:26 PMI know some people mentioned it but I don't really think it was a "narrative" on here

Maybe a hot seat kind of situation but how many people actually wanted him fired after this season ?

There were more than a few as I recall.

Quote from: killarich on December 11, 2023, 11:54:33 PMI'm not saying you're wrong , but they REFUSED to throw the ball .... We were only up what 3 ?

The playcalling was absolutely insane that day

The defense was pitching a shutout. There was no reason to think the jets would or could do a damn thing. Let alone orhestrate a game winning drive. And even with that play calling the they got to 4th and 1 inside easy FG range...where either the conversion or chip shot FG wins the game.  So whatever they did to get to that point was good enough. Much like Devito it wasn't pretty and it may not have made much logical sense but it got them to the brink of an easy win. They just blew it after that.

Or are we done with that ridiculous narrative after he's taken a QB void of any and all elite traits and won games with him?

Quote from: killarich on December 11, 2023, 11:45:57 PMKnowing what Tommy can do , kills me how they played the Jets game ... ugh

He wasn't prepared and neither were the coaches. They saw the same things we are seeing now: he's not good. But he's the best they got this season and the kid does just enough to win. So yes if he had started from week 1 they probably would be comfortably in playoff position... But there's no reasonable explanation for why other than Devito is just better than Jones and that's all Daboll needs.

Quote from: gregf on December 11, 2023, 11:26:00 PMThank you Tommy for making Giants football fun again!

This cannot be overstated.  They have been unwatchable for almost a decade.  Even if that kick goes wide left this team is fun now and it's all because this Tommy Devito character showed up and just played better than Daniel Jones.  Not great...not even good...just better than awful.  And that's all the team needed to win games.  This team is close.  They are a real QB away from being a contender.  But Devito is just good enough to prevent them from getting that real QB and to be honest... I don't even think I care anymore because of how much fun this is.

HE'S NOT GOOD...but damnit the kid is good enough to win with.  Which is the best the Giants can hope for at this point.

Quote from: DaveBrown74 on December 11, 2023, 10:46:03 PMPart of it he's calm, cool and collected and doesn't get rattled. The $40mm a year guy looks like he's miserable the whole time and is just bewildered and wants to just dump the ball off to the closest guy possible and get to the next play. Just a different type of player. I think his misery and stress trickles to the other players too. DeVito has a fun, spirited atmosphere around him.

I just wish we could say he has elite accuracy (he doesn't) or he has elite arm strength (he doesn't) or he has an elite ability to read defenses (he doesn't). It's hard to watch this guy and feel like phew!  we're in good hands for the next decade.  And yet all he does is win games!  I concede he's better than Jones.  I don't think that's even arguable anymore.  But is he good enough to bring a team to the playoffs and win? I can't say yes to that even though the way things are going he probably would anyway.

Quote from: Soundwave401 on December 11, 2023, 10:35:11 PMIs Tommy TD our guy? Is he our Brock Purdy???

I don't see anything about him that I would call elite...but if he had started every game this season the Giants would be comfortably in the wild card right now.  I don't understand how or why...but he's the best QB the Giants currently employ for some reason.

Quote from: coggs on December 11, 2023, 10:31:20 PMOn that drive, he looked like a QB.

I was just thinking the same thing.  This guy is going to cost the Giants a chance to draft an elite QB so given that, he might as well just turn into one himself.

I'm convinced either the Packers don't want to win or the Devito family has mafia ties that has convinced every other team in the NFL to throw games.

Big Blue Huddle / Re: NGT- Are the Chiefs in a decline?
December 11, 2023, 01:22:26 PM
Quote from: LennG on December 11, 2023, 01:12:44 PMReally, how many calls have the Chiefs gotten in the past few years that have helped them win games? Too many to count on fingers and toes. AND, this call wasn't even questionable. Instead of going into the huddle and telling Toney to pull his head out, he takes it out on the officials.

I think that's exactly WHY he lost his mind.  He can't go and strangle Toney for being such a moron, as much as he might want to, because then he's labeled a bad teammate.  (Unless you're Tom Brady in which case it's fine he's just "competeing" for some reason) So he sees his WR do the dumbest thing in the world and can't control his frustration but since he can't direct it at Toney he does the next best thing and directs it at the referee.

And it's not like this is the first time Toney has done something monumentally stupid.  He's single handedly cost them at least 2 games.  They'd be the #1 seed in the conference if he simply wasn't on the team.  So I kinda get being THAT frustrated since this dude just doesn't seem to learn. Not saying it's right, but I understand it.
