Quote from: DaveBrown74 on March 16, 2024, 11:19:18 AMI think Jones and Lock may be roughly similar caliber passing talents, but Jones is light years better with his legs.
Legs before a torn ACL.

Got to stop with the "hate Jones" narrative. I have no hate for Jones. I just don't think he can ever lead the Giants beyond mediocrity and I want, as an aging Giant fan, to see them find someone who can. And the sooner the better. That's all.

The best for all us fans and the GM too is to recognize that next year will be a struggle. Building blocks for 2025 and beyond. Unfortunately that first year, fun as it was set false expectations for the team. That's why a QB this year is a necessity.

It won't be much at the beginning. Jones is recovering from a serious injury. Lock will get most of the pre season work.

Quote from: MightyGiants on March 15, 2024, 12:18:20 PMThe Giants are at 6.  That's a big advantage, teams trading down only need to drop to 6 rather than all the way to 11.
If the Pats or Cards want either Nabers or Oduzne then they have to go with the Giants.

Schoen, and Giants fans should know, that 2024 is going to be a rebuild year. If they give up their second round pick to move up a bit, and maybe a second rounder next year, how will that change 2024? They have improved the offensive line in free agency and will address it more later in the draft. They have improved the defensive line with the acquisition of Burns. They will have holes next year but they will be easier to fill if those holes are receiver and cornerback than they would be if it was a QB they needed next year. Next year should not be in the equation. But 2025 should be. It's football building 101 if you understand where your team is.

Quote from: MightyGiants on March 15, 2024, 12:02:47 PMIf the Giants believe in Nix or Penix, that would be a great trade opportunity for them.  They could get their QB and still pick up a very good WR to throw to.
Penix is certainly under the radar right now but scouts are very high on him. His accuracy is out of this world. He is probably the most pro-ready of all the QBs, but also the least mobile so protection is an option. If the Giants don't trade up for one of the top four, they might be able to trade down a few spots, grab Penix and get an extra second round pick and more.

I expect the Giants to deal up to either 3 or 4 in the next couple of weeks.

I grade Schoen higher on fixing the line than Joe Douglas the GM of the Jets, who have an even worse line than the Giants and a 42 year old QB to protect.

They can't still get a very good receiver in round two. That's what I would target assuming they make a move to get a QB at 6. As it stands now, the Giants have two good backup QBs, and a third who is practice squad material.

Quote from: spiderblue43 on March 12, 2024, 06:54:34 PMI hope the Giants pick either Nabers or Odunze-both potential stars. If Maye were to fall to 6, the phone will be likely ringing off the hook with suitors. That seems very unlikely, however.
So we are looking at a Drew Lock-led Giants in 2024?

The Giants can wait until 2025 or 2026 to get out of QB hell. But can we?

Quote from: killarich on March 12, 2024, 11:27:32 AMOkay I think this is how the future QB situation with the Giants works out ... a few different possibilities:

1. The easiest, quickest and least of a headache solution .. one of the top 3 drops in this draft .... DJ is cut after this season and we have our QB of the future

2. These all blend together on how I am thinking. The top 3 QB's are most likely gone by 6 and I don't agree and hope they don't reach for a QB outside the top 3 at # 6. I think the Giants go WR at #6 and keep draft picks without trading up. Filling in other needs of the team

With a new O-line coach, some new pieces, maybe Neal moves to Guard or having upgrades next to him helps him improve at Tackle. Topped with a new (Hopefully better) O-line coach the unit as a whole is improved and good to the point where DJ fans cant excuse him anymore. Please note, I am one of those DJ fans so I am not making any digs.

DJ will most likely have to burden all the stress and pressure on his shoulders this season as he no longer has Barkley to lean on. This will lead to 3 possible outcomes that I see happening :

1. The DJ miracle situation, with a #1 WR drafted , better O-line. Wandale and Hyatt a year older and a year removed injury (Wandale). He looks like a legit QB , Waller not quitting and being decent is a bonus weapon at this point , chances of this happening <10%

2. Singleterry shows us the dropoff from Barkley is not that significant, all the other pieces added to the team actually improve the team as a whole but DJ is still the biggest question mark on the team. We either end up sneaking into the playoff or missing out but not top 5 in the draft. So Schoen now has no choice but to trade the first round pick and future assets to get into to position to draft whoever is the best QB or 2nd best QB in next years draft. Yes we give up a massive haul, but because we filled in holes this year via draft and (hopefully) successful free agent signings it will be OK because QB was the main piece anyways , and we fill in a few other pieces via free agency and whatever draft capital we have left. Chances 50/50.

3. The team completely sucks, draft picks are not impactful at least not this season. The free agent signings don't really move the needle with the O-line and Pass rush (at that point Schoen may be gone). This happens and we have top 5 pick in the draft anyways we draft a QB and have other picks to work with. Chances 50/50

These are just my thoughts on how I see things panning out

Unless we get lucky in this draft which is the hope. I think we should just build the team out and figure out the QB situation next season. I think we are more likely to trade up next years draft with a better built team then this draft.

And I know right now the QB prospects next season are nowhere near the quality of this years draft. But I feel like that is something that can and almost always changes.

This scenario further delays a rebuild. Or...we stay in QB hell.

Quote from: Bob In PA on March 12, 2024, 11:12:44 AMkat: Like Ed said, we don't know if THEY think they are rebuilding.

IMO, much of the answer to that question depends on their view of Jones and his health.

It's unlikely we'll ever know about what doctors are telling them about Jones, so all we can do is sit and wait.

Bob
Jones' health is almost immaterial. Even when healthy, he's never shown anything beyond middle of the road Qbing. If they want a future of hope for more than mediocrity, they must upgrade that position, if they can. His health is an excuse now to cut him loose sooner than later.

The rebuild cannot commence without a young QB. Simple as that. 2024 we know will be a nothing much year unless a miracle occurs. But if the QB of the future is not here in 2024 then the rebuild is pushed back yet another year.
