I think we bring in a vet CB and this team will hinge on DJ. If he is the real deal then this team will surprise.

i think we should def look at getting a vet cb, and maybe another olineman, (and depending on what happens with waller, maybe a te)

we dont have the gaping holes we normally have. they can be filled fairly easy

the direction is headed the right way. stacking up the defense, which is always a good thing. good young pass rushers, elite dt, solid MLB, secondary gaining depth- gotta hope a couple of the young guys turn out to be something.

Receiver core is looking good the next few years

o line has a lot of young guys, you gotta figure at least a couple of them will shake out. we got thomas and JMS penciled in for the next half decade. gotta find some permanent solutions on the rest of the line.

qb is still a HUGE question mark. can jones finally turn the corner with better supporting cast? until this question is answered, the "direction" looks to be exactly the same.

Interesting draft. seems like we got at least 2 day 1 starters in nabers and nubin. phillips seems to be a well regarded player who can instantly be the lead slot guy, and probably can move into the #2 spot across from banks.

I dont think this is any type of shock to jones. He knows a lot of people are gunning for him to be replaced, namely the fans. He knows he needs to do better. It must be quite frustrating, considering the fact that yes, he needs to play better...he had absolutely ZERO to work with. Having been in a similar situation at work, I can totally understand that. Being extremely competent, but having to rely on everyone else to do their job, or else YOU fail.

Really for the first time (on paper anyway), we have what appears to be a competent team. if he cant make it work, anyone and everyone is ready to move on. last year was more of a practice in favor of him than against, considering how poor EVERYONE on offense played.

Hopefully he sees that this is truly the last chance, and puts up some wins (and maybe some top 15 qb stats).

we went heavy on oline in FA. I agree we need to re-stock through every means necessary. but if the guys we took in the draft were higher than our board than a OL we were gonna reach for, i'd rather take the guys we picked. We have no first year players on the line and i think thats a good thing.

TLDR,

we have more work to do but i dont think you can say its been ignored.

really all depends on how the oline shakes out, obvious as it sounds. if they can protect jones, and get even a decent running game going (not getting hit behind LOS 50% of the time), we can be pretty good.

Nabers/robinson/slayton/hyatt can be a really good WR core.

lastly it comes down to whether jones can shake off the PTSD that has been his entire career. If he is shell shocked, you have to find a way to move on. with the weapons we have at WR right now, you cant waste that on a qb that cant get them the ball.

Seem to be pretty similar, but it seems nabers is a bit faster, and more explosive after the catch, which is almost hard to believe. I cant wait to see him take slants to the house.

I Think there's a higher chance the WR is going to have more success than an OL. alt looks good, but it seems that SO many high tackles fail. Especially on the giants. our WR seem to have a decent amount of success.

Quote from: TONKA56 on April 26, 2024, 08:35:38 AMIs Nabers the kind of guy that will flap his arms, talk smack to his quarterback, and make remarks to the media if things aren't going well?

why i preferred odunze. much better personality. but time will tell.

Quote from: Philosophers on April 25, 2024, 10:07:33 PMIf Nabers makes DJ a top 10 QB I will be jacked as I like DJ.  If he throws for 2,500 yards, 16 TDs, 9 INTs and is sacked 60+ times, I will really wonder about this pick.

I Think the pick certainly helps dj, but also puts pressure on him to perform. if he doesnt, we just spent a huge amount of draft capital on nabers, and you HAVE to go get him a qb that can maximize his talent. it puts just as much pressure on jones, as it takes off.

Quote from: Trench on April 25, 2024, 09:54:28 PMWith the pick of #1 WR Nabers, Hyatt and WanDale - where do we see Slyton?

Will he be traded?

wr1 nabers
wr2 slayton

those 2 guys on the outside are pretty decent

wandale primary slot receiver
hyatt rotates in or is the deep guy on 4 receiver sets.

pretty simple.

lol yeah might have gotten a little excited. but yeah, hyatt is generally just looked at as a deep threat, while nabers can literally do it all.

Quote from: Philosophers on April 26, 2024, 10:05:04 AMI think we need to look at it this way.  Nabers was a top shelf addition, however, we need a Guard and RB.  That should complete the talent upgrade then it will be up to the new OL coach to fuse the OL into a good cohesive group.

After that, DJ will only have 1 year (next season) to either be the QB or next draft we will go into full bore draft a QB mode.  We could have gotten one this season albeit with some uncertainty, but instead, we drafted a very high end talent with high floor and a super high ceiling.  You can't fault the team for that.

Very well said. this also forces the giants hand if jones stinks again this year. you got your wr. now you gotta get a guy that can feed him. for now, you hope your 160m qb can take the next step now that he finally has an elite weapon, and hopefully, an improved oline.

Quote from: y_so_blu on April 26, 2024, 09:07:40 AMWe needed a quarterback more than we needed a wide receiver. One of my favorite quarterback prospects fell into our lap at #6 and we didn't take him.

So let me check... no. No, I am not waking up happy.

you can argue we needed a receiver just as bad. and there happened to be a better receiver prospect, by a mile, than any of the remaining qb prospects. thats the simple truth right there.

Quote from: Gmo11 on April 26, 2024, 08:56:38 AMAnd they already had one of those in Hyatt last year. I love Nabers. And they are stuck with Jones this year no matter what. But it they can't find Jones replacement next year by the time they do Nabers will be approaching free agency and this whole thing would be wasted. No matter how special he is.

Nabers is LIGHT YEARS ahead of jalin hyatt. not even remotely in the same conversation.
