Big Blue Huddle / Re: Rate the Brian Burns trade

Quote from: MightyGiants on March 13, 2024, 09:37:36 AMThe Giants could have signed Josh Allen for that sort of money and kept their draft picks

You are assuming he would have came here.

Thats a big mistake fans often make when looking at FA - "well we could have just signed so and so..."

- maybe we reached out and they werent interested
- maybe we think Burns is a much better player

We cant assume every FA would have signed with us if we went a different route.

Big Blue Huddle / Re: Barkley to the Iggles

If you look at SB winners - they invested very little in the RB position.

We won twice with late round picks
NE never had a RB that was a first round pick by them.
KC has Pacheco and Damien Williams
TB got fournette for Pennies

RBs aren't that valuable. And Barkley really isn't that great. He is more name than substance now.

Gonna be a long year here...

Quote from: Brooklyn Dave on March 13, 2024, 04:21:41 AMI know there is a hug age differential but strictly as a backup, would Ryan Tanneyhill been a better choice ? Do you think that there is some thought with the Giant brass that maybe , if Jones falters that Lock could become the future Giant QB or is that too far fetched.

WAsn't LOck highly regarded when he played at Missouri ?

I think the NYG weren't interested in Tannehill due to age. Lock is a stop gap at best.

Burns is younger. Plus, there's no guarantee Hunter wanted to come here. Seemed like Burns had a ton of interest being with the NYG.

It was the right move.

Quote from: Jclayton92 on March 12, 2024, 06:51:39 PMThose aren't the top Qbs for 2025, you've got a couple but the list definitely doesn't include Allar, Dyke, Ward, Howard, or Leonard.

Allar has been a complete bust at Penn St most wanted his backup to play.

Dyke busted at Miami hence the transfer

Howard had 1 ok year at Kansas st that wasn't even impressive, he may not even start for OSU

Leonard had an ok 2022 but like Dyke and Howard, he played in a soft conference, and was injured most of 2023.

Cam Ward had good seasons at Washington state but is far from a complete prospect.

Milroe got benched last year for not being able to throw the ball. His short intermediate game doesn't exist currently.

Sanders
Ewers
Dart
Gabriel
Mccall

Are the top 5 returning qbs next year

Also the 2024 qbs in this draft compare more to 2020 than 2021.

Dart is the guy who I think will rise the most next year. Not a Gabriel fan. Don't think he has a strong enough arm.

You need to include Carson Beck.

Quote from: Painter on March 12, 2024, 03:45:59 PMAside from the silly notion that anything in this or any other Draft is "guaranteed", the fact that they now have signed Drew Lock, albeit on a 1 year, $5 million deal, makes me think it's even less likely that they will draft a QB in Round 1.

Cheers!

I'm the opposite spectrum. I think a QB is now more in play and Jones will sit the entire year or possibly be a post June 1st cut.

Quote from: Doc16LT56 on March 12, 2024, 03:19:39 PMJones, Lock, and DeVito? They better have plans to draft a QB next month.

McCarthy or Maye. We cannot go with Jones anymore.
#40
This probably ensures Jones won't take a snap next year.

Big Blue Huddle / Re: What do you guys want at #47 ?
March 12, 2024, 11:11:25 AM
Kill,

If you notice around the league, a lot of very good WRs come after round 1. Especially in round 2.

AJ Brown
Metcalf
Adams
Higgins
Kupp
Nacua
Hill
Diggs
Samuel
Aiyuk
Allen
McLaurin

And I am sure there a few more. I understand your point on the two we got, but I think class is especially deep where many would usually go round 1 in any other year.

Quote from: killarich on March 12, 2024, 10:58:55 AMOK if you want Receiver at 47 who do you want at 6 ?

My only issue with that is... I like Hyatt and Wandale.... and think they can be above average receivers but as #2 and #3 receivers

I get the feeling they NEED a true #1 Receiver to garner that attention to become above average

I feel like waiting for #47 gets us another receiver at the level of Wandale and Hyatt ..... I want more of a sure thing

But I could be wrong

Maye or McCarthy at 6.

There's a ton of WRs in this draft worth exploring at 47. Guys like Laggette, Corley, maybe Mitchell, Worthy, McConkey, etc...

I really wanted Mitchell at 39, but that seems like a pipe dream for him to drop to 47. A 6'4 sub 4.4 guy is exactly we  need.

And if you cant figure out why they didnt trade McKinney last year - then you are not paying attention. They wanted McKinney back and offered him more than what he is worth. The offer was 15 million a year. He wanted more. And he got more. He had no loyalty ever to the Giants and was never truly a team player as his selfish actions in the past show. Plus, his social media posts also indicated that he had very little loyalty to the team.

These are the guys you DONT want on the team. Schoen does not have to answer a single question about McKinney. He is not that good. He is not a playmaker. And we will be better off long term without him.

I rather a total rebuild than plugging leaks with a band aid.

We are building from the inside out - ignoring fungible positions. There seems to be an actual plan in place for the future. Yesterday was a great day for the Giants. Now go get the QB (Maye or McCarthy would be great additions). Get a WR in the second round.

For the first time in a long time - I am actually excited seeing where this team is going.
