They should consider, Phillips and Bredeson . You need depth on the OL and right now we do not have anything worthwhile.

Why not bring Breida back ?

Thank you all for your responses . I appreciate them

I know there is a hug age differential but strictly as a backup, would Ryan Tanneyhill been a better choice ? Do you think that there is some thought with the Giant brass that maybe , if Jones falters that Lock could become the future Giant QB or is that too far fetched.

WAsn't LOck highly regarded when he played at Missouri ?

Big Blue Huddle / Brian Burns versus Danielle Hunter
March 13, 2024, 04:16:36 AM
I am asking this question to those on this forum who have better knowledge of these players than I do .

Should the Giants have signed Hunter instead of trading for Burns ? Hunter signed for 2 years $49 million and Burns contract is 5 years and $141 million which could become $150 million , plus we gave upo 2 draft picks .

Who is the better player ?

Thank you

My thoughts exactly

We just made Burns the 2nd highest paid pass rusher in league.. the assumption is we will also pay Kayvon. We are also paying Dex and Thomas massive amounts of cash. It is virtually impossible to sign Kayvo given Jones's contract unless we cut him.

What is the best contract in all of sports? The rookie QB contract.

The Burns trade solidifies we are not in rebuild mode, but going for the playoffs as soon as next year. I expect us to go QB round 1 by trading our 2nd and future 2nd  and skill position players rest of draft.

If you say we are not in a rebuilding moded and going for the playoffs , then drafting a rookie QB is not the answer . Getting a number 1 WR and/or drafting a stud OL would be the answer

WE need a proven backup QB , Ryan Tanneyhill would be a good fit in my opinion . Who else is out there ? Any names please

Quote from: Stringer Bell on March 11, 2024, 10:50:03 PMThere's just no way you can draft someone as high as #6 and then change their position. LT and RT are not interchangeable.

Remember , Alt came to Notre Dame as a tight end not a tackle. You win games in the trenches especially the OL

The elephant in the room , not literally , is Evan Neal and we will not know how he will be under our new OL coach. If he turns it around and becomes the OL that we had hoped for when we drafted him, and we add a number 1 WR in either Nabers or Odozone, we will not be Debbie Downers as some posters on this board have become.

Unless I am mistaken, had we signed Barkley for $13 million and McKinney for $17 million that would be $30 million of cap space we used . What would be left to fill other holes . I do not know how Burn's contract now affects what we have left .

I am probably still in the minority , but I think we should draft Alt and look for a WR in the second round even though we now only have 1 second round pick.

Quote from: zephirus on March 11, 2024, 04:59:59 PMNobody walks for nothing.  They go into the algorithm that's used to define compensatory picks next year.  Both players expressed displeasure with the Giants and it's pretty evident they didn't want to come back.  We want players, not prisoners.  As much as it hurts to lose them, I applaud a GM who assigns value to players and doesn't deviate from the strategy and over-pay, especially at positions like running-back and safety where there is typically deep value in the draft.

So far he's making some relatively low cost signings which I think is great.  This team is not one player or two or even three from competing for a championship.  I'd rather construct through the draft, over time, than keep making expensive swings for the fence.  I don't anticipate the Giants being a contender next year, and that's okay.  The Giants made a mistake last off-season by signing Jones to the extension they did and giving Barkley franchise money.  It's gonna take a season to undo that.  It might even take 2 if they're not thrilled with the quarterbacks available at #6 and decide to revisit in 2025.  Show some patience.

Burns trade was not low cost . I echo all those who say, let's wait until this and the draft is over before we praise or condemn Schoen.

Quote from: Trench on March 11, 2024, 03:09:43 PMI'm not happy for him at all. He was a Captain. Was never gonna have to worry about $ regardless after this contract. In NY if he did well he also had more endorsements coming. Show some class and give Giants a chance to make a better offer at least.

He is in our stadium I will boo. No ovations for the RB touched by the hand of God or whatever he was supposed to be.

I agree. I thought there was an understanding that he would give the Giants the ability to match
