I beg to differ on the play caller for the Giants. It's somewhat of a concern for me. Last season it seemed completely out of touch with what was going on on the field for several games.

Just go back and watch the first Dallas game. The Pass Protection struggled yet most of the routes came out of 11 personnel and intermediate to deep routes. Many outside the numbers. With the speed and quickness of Campbell, Shep, Hyatt and later in the season WDR, when there even was a shallow crosser or Dig, it was Waller or Slayton. Never testing the middle of the field in that game and completely void of any shallow mesh. Of course the couple of times there was a crosser, DJ missed its timing or he took off.

My concern is whether they draft a WR like Nabors or Odunze, how effective can they be and if they draft Maye, will he have the time to make those deep throws.

Under the current situation, the most effective QB's for the Giants would likely be Daniels who is out of reach or Bo Nix but they would need to change up those route combinations. They went too often to what DJ said he favored in the Hi-Low deep to intermediate.

I don't know who was responsible for the playbook more, Daboll or Kafka. Even the run plays were so obvious because they felt they needed additional blockers for those rushing schemes and it often was an X or Z only going out. Gone were the plays where there were rush and pass options.

Maybe it's just my perception.

Similar throwing motion and tight delivery to David Carr. It was something how he was able to air that deep ball with his elbow in tight to his chest.

Quote from: DaveBrown74 on April 21, 2024, 05:47:48 AMI think it could be the most important draft in 20 years if they land a franchise QB who can lead this franchise for the next 15-plus years. If they don't, it could still be an impactful draft, but I'm not sure it will be the most important in two decades.
If they draft the wrong QB that could set them back another five years and impact the coaching staff. Then how do they replace that QB. If he is the right QB, it could be a decision that carries them to a championship. If they don't draft a QB, or one later in the draft, they will be tied to Jones for a year or even the length of his contract. Jones and Lock might be a picture definition of QB hell. The 2025 QB class may be just poor enough to let them hang on to Jones if he somehow wins 8-9 games this year. Then it might get into their heads that he's the guy.

The drafting of Eli while they had a good QB in Collins was a decision that impacted them for the life of his career.

All this may seem like a may this or could be that, however the scenarios are not outside the realm of actual possibilities.

The most important draft for the NY Giants in 20 years. It will determine the fate of this team for the next decade.

Too many? Why is that a problem when these QB's play into their mid to late 30's? Yes, bo Nix and Penix are the most mature and experienced QB's in this draft.

If Maye, JJ or Daniels somehow fall to six and Schoen doesn't draft a QB, right or wrong, he's getting crucified by the fan base and most of the media.

Quote from: Bob In PA on April 20, 2024, 12:20:15 PMNote how Daniels is at (or near) the top regardless of category.  I still don't know why Williams is the consensus top QB in this draft. Maybe someone who really really likes him can explain that to me. Bob
Like Bo Nix. I keep telling you folks, don't discount Nix.

Quote from: uconnjack8 on April 20, 2024, 10:46:29 AMVikings sort of have to get a QB.  Can't let Cousins walk and have Sam Darnold and Nick Mullens as the only plan.  At least I think you can't.

I wonder how long Darnold would have lasted here if he became a NYG? He was one of the top two QB's drafted that year and his best seasons were his first two with the Jets. Mayfield may have resurrected his career but it doesn't appear Darnold will in the near future.
