Everyone on that list surprised me, especially Mr. Bean.

Quote from: bighitterdalama on April 19, 2023, 06:28:40 PMHey Steve. No worries; I made the arrangement as from The Big Blue Huddle. I presently I do not use Venmo or Apple Cash. Instead, perhaps a small donation to a local animal shelter?

OK, thanks Brian, I'll look into doing that.

For those of us that would like to share in the expense of the flowers, @bighitterdalama do you use either Venmo or Apple Cash? I'd like to help, and I'm sure others would as well.

Quote from: LennG on April 10, 2023, 04:57:12 PMI haven't been on BBH for a while, but I got an email from Dan and a call from Ed today about Jim and his health. I would say Jim and I were very good friends and this news really disturbed me. I speak with Jim all the time, about once a month, and last time he sounded well and was in good spirits.
I kind of knew something was up when he didn't send me a Passover greeting and when I sent him an Easter greeting it bounced back to me.
Anyway, I just called his home and spoke with his daughter. As said Jim is
terminal and expected to pass away any time now. He is at home but not conscience and it is just a matter of time. He had skin cancer problems but was OK until a couple of weeks ago when it seemed to have spread to his brain and he went downhill very quickly. His daughter said she will notify me when he does pass.

Just unbelievably horrible news. There wasn't a nicer man around and as huge a Giants fan as anyone could ever hope to be.

Very sorry to hear this. Jim is good man and a Giant among Giant fans, as well as one of the pillars of this site. May the Lord be with him and his family.

Thanks Ed. So far I don't feel too bad, just really tired. It's funny how this virus presents itself differently to different people. In my case very tired, (as in bed for 16 hours kind of tired), a non-stop dry cough, muted taste buds, and it feels like I have a sunburn all over. No fever, my lungs are clear, and just a little nasal drip. I can't believe my wife hasn't caught it from me, (so far anyway). She tested yesterday and again this morning, both negative. She has jury duty this week, so she'll keep testing at least once a day.

My luck just ran out as I tested positive this morning for the first time. On Friday I played a round of golf, and by the end my throat was a bit scratchy. Coughing Saturday so I tested but was negative. Still coughing this morning but was planning on running to the store for some groceries, and my wife insisted I test. Sure enough, positive, so stayed home. My wife tested has tested negative so far. Other than a  occasional dry cough I feel fine, but my coffee had very little flavor, other things tasted fine so far.

Quote from: Jolly Blue Giant on March 08, 2023, 12:32:49 PMGene Hackman (one of my favorite actors) has lived like a recluse for the last decade or so. Here he is at 93 and a picture taken by the paparazzi that makes me sad. My Dad made it to 94 and that made me sad to see how such a strong man can deteriorate to a shadow of who he was

I think Hackman looks pretty damn good here for 94!! We should all be so lucky.

I haven't visited this thread is a long time. There's some great pics here of professional quality. Thanks everyone for sharing these.

I no longer own an actual camera so I take all my pics with my iPhone. While it's surprising what you can get with a cell phone, it's definitely no on par with with a quality camera.

Here's a couple pictures I took recently with my phone.

Sunset as seen from Dinosaur Caves Park in Pismo Beach, California. The park is located about 15 miles up the road from our house.

Another sunset. This one looking across nearby Lake Cachuma, a man-made reservoir providing most of the water for Northern Santa Barbara and the city of Goleta. What's great about the lake right now is that it's sitting at 100% capacity, (they're actually letting extra water out to stay at 100%). I first started watching this lake back in 2007, and during that time until now it's never been above 60% full, and frequently only around 30% full.

We need transition lenses that keep getting darker the longer someone is talking to you...

Thursday, 4:01pm
"Still there."
"Yep."
"Looks blue."
"It certainly does."
"Wet too."
"Totally."
"See you next week?"
"Count on it."

An elderly man thinking his
wife was losing her hearing
went about 20' behind her
and asked "Can you hear me
sweetheart?' No reply. Moved
to 10' and inquired again. No
reply. 5' and not a word. A
few inches behind ear, he
asked "Can you hear me now
honey"? His wife said "For the
fourth time, yes."

An old I/T joke....

I was walking down a street, and noticed that the houses were numbered 64k, 128k, 256k, 512k, 1mb, 2mb....
That was a trip down memory lane.
