The Front Porch / Re: What are we watching these days?

Last night we were able to watch the latest new movie from PIXAR, "SOUL".

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aP5C1OSSEOo&ab_channel=MovieclipsTrailers

https://www.imdb.com/title/tt2948372/

First things first. I LOVE anything that comes out of the PIXAR studios. Their animation and movies are just so far above anyone else's. Just classic movies, as Toy Story, The Incredibles, Finding Nemo, Cars, WALL-E and so, so many more. Seems each was better than the last, so I went into this movie with great anticipation.PLUS it got rave reviews, so where am I with it. I just didn't love it. Don't get me wrong, the animation is way beyond anything PIXAR has ever done. There were scenes in NY where you might have thought it was film and not animated. Just so far ahead of its time. Story-wise, if anyone has watched the trailer, it about a supposedly middle-aged guy who loves Jazz. he is a temp music teacher for kids and gets a promotion to full-time. BUT, at the same time he lands a spot with a jazz band, his entire life what he has waited for--so where does he go. NO where, he falls down a manhole and dies and that really starts the essence of the story. And here is where it mostly became confused. I can see kids liking the characters and animation, but the story, about death, reborn life, and your soul is just not what kids would enjoy. Maybe I'm so old I don't know what kids would really enjoy, but I think parts of the movie might be way over their heads. It was to me. When the movie was back on Earth, it was great, trying to follow Joe Gardiner in his quest to return to Earth and play in this jazz band. It was funny, cute and so well done. I just felt they spent way too much time in what might be the afterlife, trying to decide where Joe would go and with whom.
Again this movie got excellent reviews, even better than that. I think it was the first animated movie made about African Americans--totally and it was great. The dude who played the barber was so great and his story, also great.

I would recommend this movie to one and all, and you decide for yourself. Great movie to watch with your kids as there could be so much to discuss with them during and after.

Try this one:

"I didn't mean any harm, Mr. Cunningham."
"No harm taken, young lady.  I'll tell Walter you said hey."

Happy Days???

We use a financial advisor for quite a few years and are pretty happy with him. We are VERY conservative in our approach now that we are older and retired, but we were always sort of that way. I don't care if I make a bundle, I just want to sleep quite comfortably at night. We are very happy with our slow but sure approach. Won't become rich but will also stay off the window ledge.

I know very few here watch Game of Thrones. As I already mentioned Ned Stark, thru the show's 7 seasons, there have been countless main, and sub-main characters, killed off, some in very gruesome ways.

The Red Wedding was superior in this as it killed off several main characters, all at the same time.

The Walking Dead was also famous for killing off more 'main' characters than many people thought necessary. I think one of the real intense feelings for that show was you never knew who was safe at any time. It just added to the suspense. We used to discuss, in-depth, which characters we felt were safe and really impossible to kill off, but many still surprised us.
Last being Alpha. I just never saw that coming at all.

Your eye for capturing nature astounds me! I look at your pics and just stare in amazement at how truly beautiful and magnificent God's creation is. You capture these scenes so wonderfully. If I'm having a down day, looking at your photos are therapeutic!

Thank you so much for sharing these! I truly appreciate you and you skills! And you're a Giants fan too?!? So glad to be in your circle!

:notworthy: :notworthy: :notworthy:

Tim

You're making me blush.

Always glad to share things like this with good friends. (and an Air Force guy, and gal, to boot)   :ok: :ok: :ok:

And anytime you ever want to take that cruise, give a holler.  We are ALWAYS ready.

Today's group--  Sunsets

I could fill maybe 5 albums with pix of the sunsets I have taken. Where ever we travel, we have always tried to take a few minutes, find a great spot to watch the sunset and hopefully, get a few good pix. We go to Cape Cod every winter and I have gotten some truly amazing sunsets from there, but the best sunsets are while Cruising, when you can catch the sun setting on the horizon basically every night. Obviously, some are better than others, with the clouds that are available, making some pix truly remarkable.
going thru some of my sunset pixs, I have been very lucky to have experienced some truly remarkable events of nature.

So let's try another

Maybe not so much a softball, but from a very popular movie, and there is a big hint in the line.

I guess it must be "Fargo."  I didn't realize it was a comedy.  I never saw it & for some reason I have no desire to see it.

Let's go with Moonstruck as Cher won the Oscar for Best Actress. Really one of the funniest movies I've seen in quite q while. Very similar to My Cousin Vinny in its humor.

I wouldn't call this a real softball, but  from a great movie (hint Comedy)

You ruined my life!

No, I didn't.

Oh, yes, you did! Oh, yes, you did! Y'know, you got them bad eyes, like a gypsy, and I don't know why I didn't see it yesterday. Bad luck! That's what it is. Is that all I'm ever gonna have? I should have taken a rock and killed myself years ago!

Anot her clue, 1997 and the female star won an Oscar for best actress. That's a give a way now

"The Mothman Prophesies."  If you haven't it, I suggest you do.  It's suspenseful & a little creepy.

I watched some of that movie, ages ago, hated it and never even finished it. Sorry
