When I see a word like "ascendant", it's larks rather than Giants which comes to mind. In any event, it is at least interesting that you would call up visual deception as a hedge against your perception. But, of course, as a Giants fan, it's always more about hope than expectation as suggested by the reaction you've gotten, so far and so fair.

Quote from: MightyGiants on January 08, 2024, 11:18:05 AMI have to think Daboll knew he had no choice but to fire Bobby Johnson.  The line's historically bad performance this year along with the poor drafting of (O-line coaches are heavily involved in draft evaluation) development of the O-linemen left only a single option.

I agree that Daboll had no real choice but to part ways with Bobby Johnson and, perhaps, with McGaughey also. I would however be less finger-pointy in regard to Johnson's culpability re the drafting of Olinemen given the team's more than a decade-long puny performance in that regard.

There is all we really need to know as to who is, and who is not, a real fan as opposed to some wannabe GM phony-ass.  At least, you now where you can shove it.

Big Blue Huddle / Re: Giants likely draft slot
January 08, 2024, 02:09:47 AM
I don't think there is any doubt whatever that the Schoen/Daboll Giants expect Daniel Jones to be their starting QB in the coming season as dictated by economic exigency whether or not they share more confidence in him than most here seem to want to process. At this point, we have no idea as to whether they will look to draft his intended successor in Round 1, or more of a contingent addition with one of their 2nds.

There is nothing to stop us from deciding who by name should be the new, the next, Giants QB but we might want to leave room for it to be a decision made more like 16 than 4 months from now. I know, I hear you, Bummer!

Good luck, Good call. It's always good to end your season with a win, and while not quite, at least  sorta like a flip of the script with the Uglies.

C'mon now, they just beat the Eagles, so why not bitch about Thibodeaux just to make sure to minimize any trace of misplaced satisfaction. Geezus Peezus!

They have a bigger issue to deal with in terms of Jones and his big cap hit coming up and how that may affect any decision they can or will make re a QB in the '24 Draft. As for Penix, he means little more than an excuse for someone to get ahead of his skis. Except maybe for Phil Simms, Hmm, Yeah, Maybe, Yathink, Huh? Pooobbbbffff!

When Phil Simms calls Pennix the best college thrower he has ever seen, it is for him a statement of fact. For a lot us, apparently, it's a can of worms; for some, a wad in the crack of the ass. And so, that does make me think that I must have missed the part where one or both Simms promoted the idea that the Giants should draft Michael Penix if they can possibly do so.

Alright, so they didn't, which I guess leaves it us to determine the degree to which spiral accuracy and precision may be subject to discounts re age and potential degeneration once we are in possession of pre-Draft medical prognosis. And then there are those rising and falling whispers from the 'perts, not to mention some GM who may do the unthinkable.

Oh! why does this have to be so hard? ~X(  =))

From Coach of the Year to Roach of the Year, is that it? If that ain't rash, my name isn't 10-23 Joe Judge, or 9-23 Pat Shurmur. Of course, it isn't, but you kinda have to wonder who then would get to coach them out from under the Gettleman legacy of costly and dumb? Who knows, Little Bill, 3 time COTY and 2022 first ever PFWA Executive of the Year, sometimes thought of as a GOAT, might be interested. But then as he likes to make all the decisions, it might mean a Schoen/ Daboll packaged out.

Naw! forget it, let's just concentrate on Daboll and let his coaches go their merry ways. Afterall, how good could any of them be, right?

Big Blue Huddle / Re: Is Bill Belichick the GOAT?
January 06, 2024, 06:49:28 PM
What else is there to quibble and fart about other than herding GOATs? While it's just one of those shits about which I don't give, Belichick has already achieved far more than most in being only one of two in the discussion whether as GOAT or GOAT herder. Personally, I'll be more interested in what he and Brady before him, has to say at their HOF induction.

Cheers!

And what's that old notion that you are what your record says you are???

Big Blue Huddle / Re: NGT- Qbs in the draft.
January 06, 2024, 06:16:04 PM
Although you don't say what you mean by drafted high, your suggestion that MOST who are have become misses (busts if you insists) is mostly accurate as the stats which you assert don't lie, would attest. For example, during the past 15 Drafts - not counting the latest in which Young, Stroud, and Richardson were taken 1, 2,and 4, the number of what can be called, Franchise, or Championship-caliber talent/production QBs are just 12 of a total of 45 or about 27 percent. And if we were to add another 6 who have had mixed results, yet might still make it to the top, that would amount to only 40 percent, that is 2 of 5 First Round picks. I can name 'em if needed.

Thus, as we guess we are already bucking the odds, trailing the numbers, not to mention the bias that someone or something has implanted. And because I don't like the odds, and the what I think doesn't matter in the least, fact of it, I'll leave it to the "way too earlies" for now.

How many Head Coaches and Coordinators and Position Coaches have the Giants had since Coughlin, Gilbride, Spagnuolo, Flaherty, Waufle, Quinn et al ran teams which were sufficiently successful to have avoided being dumped all over as have their successors all of whose names should be quite familiar this past decade.

All I know of Bobby Johnson is that his work in 3 years as Bills Oline coach, beginning with a largely inexperienced group of players, was sufficiently successful in contributing to the success of its Offense and overall, that Schoen/Daboll made sure that he came with them to the Giants. Of course, now following last season's now-you-see-it, now-you-don't tease, he's no more than one of many who should be in shite.

As for the talent and lack thereof of the Giants Olines (plural), all I have seen is years of roster turnover and inconsistency such that it rarely if ever exceeded a College Division 2 talent level. Certainly, nothing like Diehl, Seubert, O'Hara, Snee, and McKenzie if we need a reference.

Frankly, I think that had they gotten anything like the anticipated, although possibly overrated, performance from Evan Neal at ORT followed this season by the addition of JMS at OC and now perhaps their 1st and one of their 2nd Rounders to do for the Oline (and QB) what has been needed for much too long, it might not be so far-fetched that we won't need to keep on "tale of tape" crunching in search of an answer.

Cheers!

Should the Giants finish the season with the 5th overall pick, the first consideration is whether they then will have an opportunity to draft one of the 3 QBs whom, at this point, the media, and pundits, and self-anointed experts have declared to be full value and worthy of top ranking. As we all know, they are: USC's Caleb Williams, and UNC's Drake Maye, and the fast-rising Heisman winner, LSU's Jayden Daniels.

So what about the opportunity, assuming as I will that they might take one of those 3 if available at 5, but would not otherwise choose to trade up. It then will hinge on whether DaBears move on from Justin Fields and/or the Cardinals are fibbing re Kyler Murray. Given that I feel that both the Patriots and Commanders are a lock to take 2 of those QBs, my best guess at this point is that there is no more and probably less than a 50/50 chance that the Giants come away from Round 1 with one of the 3, or indeed with any QB at all.

While I'd be satisfied if the Giants took an OT like ND's Joe Alt, or PSU's Olum Fashanu, the current Round 1 WAG favorite is LSU WR Malik Nabors. And so then, what might that suggest for a Giants interest in a 2nd Round QB for which they have the Nos. 39 and 52 picks? I'd say a lot. Indeed, I almost expect them to add one of the x-men, Penix or Nix. Go on then, take your pix.

Cheers!

Happy Anniversary of your Births, David and Eli while curiously on a certain later February 3, we rejoiced when they collaborated on a play called, 62 Sail-Y Union which led to what will forever be known as the "Helmet Catch"
