I have said in the past that the Giants model of drafting a guy and then ignoring the position until its painfully obvious that the guy they drafted is a failure is an awful way of doing business, especially considering how important the position has become.

We aren't alone in that boat as are most other teams, but the Packers have been smart enough to draft back up quarterbacks every couple of years and allowed them to develop behind the starter. Hassleback, Brooks, Brunnell, Flynn, Rodgers and Love are all guys they drafted despite having an elite starter. We just settle for some vet who has no upside and who's primary trait is that they're just bad enough that our starter never has to look over his shoulder. It's great for the starter but catastrophic for the franchise if the starter gets hurt or sucks.

If we can't get one of the the top tier guys they should draft a guy that will fall to the second round and there will likely be a handful of them and hope they got lucky. Worst thing they could do is reach for a guy in the first round. Use the pick on the line, again, and add a receiver with their second, second round pick before taking a back in the third.

Quote from: Quick Kick on November 19, 2023, 04:30:34 PMWashington really lost the game more than we won it. What team has 9 sacks and loses? A team that drops passes and has 6 bad turnovers. Credit to our D for those fumbles and ints. AND Kudos to T. Divito for playing a good game He could develop into a solid back up with more time. A tough kid.  Kudos also to Lawrence, Tribidoux, and Barkley.

I gotta comment on the dumb play of Simmons who could have fallen on the fumble and effectively ended the game on Wash's last TD drive-instead he tried to pick it up and run and lost the ball.  Also on that last interception, it might have been smarter to just go down and cover up the ball and end the game rather than run for the endzone and risk a fumble.

Daboll called a smart timeout right before the snap to give his D a little rest on the last drive.

Good to get a meaningless win even if it cost us a higher draft pick.

Only on this board would someone be critical of a pick six.

I doubt it happened the way it is portrayed in the tweet. I do think that DeVito has given himself a chance to be on a roster next year.

Quote from: y_so_blu on November 19, 2023, 03:42:19 PMI will never not be happy about the New York Giants winning.  <:-P

Imagine sacking the opposing (3rd-string) QB nine times and still losing by double digits. That's Washington right now.

I shudder to think how many sacks they would have had today if they hadn't traded Young and Sweat.

Quote from: TDToomer on November 19, 2023, 03:36:19 PMI am sick of losing. So my way of having fun is to enjoy this game and hope the result stands. It's not fun seeing fans pout that we are doing well. Thesw players don't care about draft position.

If these players didn't suck draft position would be irrelevant.

Quote from: TDToomer on November 19, 2023, 03:28:11 PMIt's a bit disappointing to see good posters here upset that we are winning. So I have to ask, why are you watching?

Some of us realize that the fastest way out of football hell is an elite quarterback. This game is really meaningless but could prove fatal to our chances of landing one of the two top quarterbacks prospects. It's hard to stomach another lost season with no real reward for our suffering.

Quote from: killarich on November 19, 2023, 03:23:08 PMDamn I wanna win , but I don't want to win

Getting a qb

And top 3 second round pick is big

I hate the fact that the Giants playing well today is causing me distress. I said to my son that winning today and losing the rest of the games would cost us both Williams and Maye is so typical of the Giants. Can't even suck the right way.

Neither team seems to want to win this game.

That would be the Giants luck.

No. Trading the first pick overall means we end up with a franchise quarterback who is six years younger on a rookie deal. If we have the first pick overall I want them to go for the brass ring and draft the face of the franchise for the next 12-15 years not a really good quarterback who is wearing out his welcome somewhere else.

Hate sideline reporters in general but there's never an excuse to make stuff up. Either say the coach refused to stop to answer questions or that she missed the chance to ask one. Should be a cause for being fired.

Quote from: Jclayton92 on November 16, 2023, 04:17:33 PMWhat I was referring to is whether Daniels is Hendon Hooker or Joe Burrow. Is he elite with elite talent or is he ok with elite talent.

I love Hookers game and the school is still out on if he is good or great with great receivers.

Quote from: DaveBrown74 on November 16, 2023, 02:24:51 PMI would further argue that elite college athletes have been getting things like sports cars and under the table cash for years. Many surely have who went on to spectacular careers. Boosters have done all kinds of things behind the scenes for these kids since time immemorial. If anything, I would argue that Shadeur's purchase of a car with his own legitimately, legally earned, taxed income is a lot better than a lot of shady stuff that has happened in the past. Bottom line I don't think there is any real correlation here. I guess the argument Phil is making is that it speaks to his character or his intelligence, but I would not really agree there myself. He's a young guy with a lot of confidence who has already made a lot of money and happens to have a rich Dad. I don't really have a problem with him buying an expensive material possession. To me that doesn't mean he'll be good or bad.

Here's the thing we don't know about his Bentley. He could have gotten it as as an in kind payment for making personal appearances and signing memorabilia for the dealer. He might not have paid cash for it.

There are a ton of professional athletes that a dominant at their profession and absolutely idiotic investors. Sucks for them long term but that isn't my primary concern as a fan.

Quote from: Philosophers on November 16, 2023, 01:56:55 PMIt totally matters.  What it means is a high percentage of his net worth is tied up in a depreciating asset.  Stupid.  He has not even gotten to his first NFL contract which if he gets drafted in 2nd round or after won't be guaranteed and will be much less.  He might just never develop into more than an NFL backup. Decisions like are why athletes go bankrupt.  See Evander Holyfield, Mike Tyson, and hundreds of football players.

Isn't that his problem and not something that is any of our business? Don't care how my quarterback invests his money. I care if he can score points and lead my offense. Everything outside of that is nothing but white noise.

Quote from: Jclayton92 on November 15, 2023, 10:06:26 PMI like Sanders a lot. Ewers reminds me of Josh Allen without the mobility in that he is really raw and can chunk it but doesn't have touch yet really. People are still sleeping on Mccarthy, the kid is surgical. Daniels has 3 first round picks at Wr and a day 2 TE. He scares me.

You could have said the same thing of Joe Burrow and CJ Stroud, right? He scares me a bit because he isn't an elite passer but neither are Lamar Hackson and Jalen Hurts, two guys who would be massive improvements over Jones.
