Quote from: Bob In PA on January 21, 2024, 10:49:35 PMProof or disproof of the accuracy of the evaluation cited in the original post will eventually become evident.

Just watch for the trade situation (especially during free-agency, but also up to an including draft day.

That activity will show (indirectly) how the various teams view the later rounds this year.

Bob

Bob,

I am not sure you're aware, but Jim Nagy is the Senior Bowl executive.  If anyone knows the talent in the draft pipeline it's him.

I think the rest of Paul Schwartz's story (aka what the Giants want you to hear) is setting up for a possible Kafka departure, even if it's just another OC job (former GM Randy Mueller in his latest podcast mentioned that Kafka's head coaching interviews could also serve as OC interviews).

QuoteKafka could view an opportunity with another team as beneficial to his coaching career. Or he could return and wait and see what Daboll has in store for him.

Tierney, 37, has never been a play-caller but everyone has to start somewhere and he could be in line for a promotion to offensive coordinator if Kafka leaves. Daboll and Tierney have a history together, linking up for the first time in 2017 at Alabama, when Daboll was the offensive coordinator and Tierney was an offensive assistant on Nick Saban's staff.

Daboll brought Tierney with him to Buffalo in 2018 and to the Giants in 2022. Tierney's attention to detail helped Daniel Jones put together the best season of his career, landing Jones a four-year contract worth $160 million. Tierney this past season helped get undrafted rookie Tommy DeVito up to speed and DeVito responded by winning three consecutive games — throwing five touchdown passes and no interceptions in that streak.

I just listened to the latest Jordon Raanan podcast

Around the 12 minute mark he discusses this hire

https://open.spotify.com/episode/7JkbFN0fPFSGczhGmqwaxz

Basically, Jordon said the new coach's results are good.  However, he said he heard an unusual number of negative remarks about him as a coach (he indicated the negatives were similar to the ones demonstrated by Daboll).

Everyone got a chuckle when John Mara made that comment about his coach-of-the-year employee Brian Daboll.

It was an odd thing to say to his head coach, and it was even odder to share with the public that he said this to his head coach.   Now, after everything that came to light, perhaps there was a method to John Mara's "madness".    I was listening to Randy Mueller on his latest podcast.  As a former GM, he shared his perspective.  He admitted he doesn't have inside information, but he has seen the power, money, and fame of being a head coach change men.  I posted the link to the show below; you can hear about it at the 21:40 mark.   Perhaps that is what has happened, and it's what John Mara was seeing, and his remarks were intended to try and guide Brian back to the better path.

Randy went on to say that Daboll's strength is his abilities as an offensive coach, and that is what he should be leaning into (rather than trying to get involved in all the other areas).  Randy said that the lack of stability and consistency the reports portray of Brian's behavior is not welcome by most NFL employees.  He did say the key is the locker room, and Randy doesn't know how the players view Brian's behavior (although he said some of the public dressing down of players is usually not very well received by players).

Also, here is Jordan's latest podcast on this issue

Big Blue Huddle / No depth in draft
January 21, 2024, 10:46:14 AM
Nobody's talking about it because few truly track later round prospects but combination of NIL money, widespread use of extra Covid year, & smallest junior class in over a decade completely wiped out depth of this year's #NFL  Draft. By late December, our @seniorbowl board fell apart in Rounds 5-7. Teams will either be trading away Day 3 picks to preserve value or selecting players from their free agent side board in April.

Quote from: ozzie on January 21, 2024, 08:09:01 AMI fully understand wanting the promotion and getting your chance to put together a team with aspirations of winning and making a name for yourself, and if Brown gets this opportunity, I wish him the best. That being said, I would hesitate to jump into that role with Carolina. David Tepper seems to be a bit of a loose cannon and the organization seems unstable at best under his ownership. I'm sure Brown will have other opportunities if he doesn't land this gig.

Tepper needs an experienced GM who can teach him how to become a owner

I am mindful the Packers cost her another game check by beating the Cowboys.   She could be exaggerating or misinterpreted.   Too many witnesses not to have been seen.
