Quote from: Ed Vette on January 20, 2024, 09:04:38 AMAfter what the players did to the Dallas Cowboy Cheerleaders, I'm all in for the Niners.

I have doubts about the Cheerleader's claims.   With 80,000 individual cameras and all the cameras from the TV network, I find it improbably that there isn't a single picture or video showing the acts that were alleged (especially as she alleges the players got in her face)

I was always under the assumtion that Daboll was Mara's choice and not Schoens, that Mara did that hire.

For what it's worth, when people talked about Schoen as a potential GM candidate, they always added that he would bring Daboll as his head coach (which was considered a plus).

I feel dumber from having listened to the idiot on the left.  At least Tike made some sense.

Quote from: DaveBrown74 on January 19, 2024, 01:38:12 PMHas anyone other than Raanan reported that Kafka is likely on his way out?

I haven't seen anything from anyone else.  I haven't even seen people talking about Raanan's claim.

Quote from: LennG on January 19, 2024, 12:03:21 PMSchoen needs more time to establish his brand on this team. What he inherited was more than a complete mess it was downright atrocious. He has done some good work and he has messed up a few times also. Everyone can't hit a home run every time at bat, there have to be a few misses also.
We can sit here and list his good things and bad things, but overall, I believe the Giants are better now than when he took over.
My one really bad deal was the Jones thing and we don't know, or may never know, if that came from Mara, and Schoen's hands were tied. I always said he should have played hardball because no team was going to give Jones what he was asking for. But we have to make the best of it.

I feel a GM needs 4 years to turn the culture around. If, after that time, we are still mired in mediocrity, then we move on. Schoen still gets 2 more years from me.

Len,

In fairness, most of Shoen's best players he inherited-  Andrew Thomas, Barkley, Darius Slayton, Dexter Lawerence, Leonard Williams, McKinney, Adoree Jackson,

Quote from: Trench on January 19, 2024, 12:43:45 PMAgreed. Dabol coached with absolute fear in Jets game. It was an embarrassment. He allowed ultra conservative play calling all season long. He deserves to get a chance to rectify next year but all this smoke coming out now does not bode well for him unless he has a big season.

I'm still concerned he had the Joe Judge deer in headlights look several times this season. Not good

Yet when Daboll should have been afraid (that his wounded kicker couldn't kick a field goal), he was fearless

Quote from: H-Town G-Fan on January 19, 2024, 10:52:47 AMI believe he interviewed (or will) with both the Titans and Seahawks. There's little reason for anyone to interview him unless they want to give him a legitimate shot (he doesn't help them satisfy the Rooney Rule). Like I said, I'm not ruling it out that he leaves for another OC position, but this reeks of Ranaan piling on the narrative that Daboll is driving a wedge in the staff (regardless as to whether that is correct or not). It's whispers with not an ounce of substance.

I missed the Seahawks interview

Interviews do offer more value than you realize.  Interviews allow teams to learn how other processes other teams use.  While there have been issues with Daboll, he is still well-respected for his acumen as an offensive coordinator.  I am sure teams would be happy to take an interview to get some new insights on how he does it.

Quote from: UKGiantsFan on January 19, 2024, 10:31:44 AMWe will have Tierney directly coaching both Nix and Penix (another one I don't want in Giants blue) at the Senior Bowl

I don't know why you don't like Penix, but one thing that struck me-  In an interview, Penix said he didn't even know what an ACL was before he tore his.  Hopefully, he was being hyperbolic. Otherwise, I don't think he meets the smart part of smart, tough, and dependable.   I mean, how could a player in a sport where ACL tears are so commonplace not heard of the ACL?

Quote from: Ed Vette on January 19, 2024, 10:43:18 AMI was comparing them to the Giants situation, where many dumped their Seat License because fans stopped going to games in November and the resale value was in the pits. Last season they had to have had a resurgence but who trusts this organization at this point when it comes to shelling out cash? If it wasn't for you, Brian and Frank, I would have dumped the license years ago. If the Giants won 12 games a year, at least the joy of winning would have kept me in the game. Instead of walking back to the car in the wallows of defeat.

I wonder if teams initially benefit from fan dissatisfaction.   With a limited market for the seat licenses they go back to the team who at some point will sell them again for yet more money.

Quote from: H-Town G-Fan on January 19, 2024, 10:04:18 AMKafka has been interviewing for head coaching positions. Ranaan's comments (purposefully vague) may be nothing more than a reflection that someone is going to bring Kafka on in that role. Leaving for a HC job is hardly an indictment of Daboll. OC position? Different story altogether, I agree. But we don't know how this ends yet so I'm not going to speculate when the evidence points to HC for Kafka.

As far as I know, Kafka has one HC interview, and frankly, I would be surprised if he gets it.  Mike Lombardi likes to say HCs are elected rather than selected.  I think part of what he means is that owners need to sell the fan base on the new HC.   I can't imagine that fans would be excited with a new HC who coordinated one of the worst offenses in the league, regardless of how many extenuating circumstances there were.

Quote from: Ed Vette on January 19, 2024, 08:04:34 AMIf you think about it, it might be more profitable to have contiguous 12 win seasons and not go all the way, than a bunch of 6 win seasons and winning it all every ten years. The in season ticket sales alone would be much better for the entire season and you retain your seat license holders.

I would think it would take more than a few losing seasons to put Dallas in a position to not sell out.  Still, there are other significant revenue streams that teams don't have to share, like concession sales, merchandising, and even parking.  Full stadiums of fans there to watch a winning team maximize JJ's income.

Plus, suites are more desirable to corporate customers if they know they are going to be taking clients to meaningful games and to watch a winning team.

Quote from: DaveBrown74 on January 19, 2024, 09:57:29 AMI have no interest in Nix, certainly not where we're picking or even after trading down several spots. I will study him some more, but right now I would say I don't even want him at 39 either. I think he'll be a middling NFL QB at best.

I seriously doubt a trade-up is possible (I am less than convinced it's even desirable, considering the Giant's many other needs).   So, if the Giants want to upgrade from Daniel Jones, it's likely to come down to a tier-two QB like Pennix, Nix, or McCarthy.
