Quote from: DaveBrown74 on April 12, 2024, 10:05:14 PMFolks here who have made up their minds that McCarthy is going to be a really good NFL QB will claim that Tiki, a highly talented, knowledgeable, and accomplished former NFL star, has no clue what he's talking about and that they're right and he's wrong.

Folks who see it more his way will nod in agreement or "like" the post.

That's how it usually works in March/April.

Jeff,

I appreciate there are a few here guilty of shooting the messenger (or heaping massive praise on the messenger) because their opinion matches their own.  However, I think they are the exception, not the rule.  I think most here consider both the soundness of the argument and the qualifications of the person putting forth the argument when they consider what was said.

I was more than willing to listen to Tike because as a former HB and broadcaster is qualified to give his opinion.  That said, Tiki lost me when he claimed the scheme JJ worked in at Michigan doesn't translate to the NFL.  Michigan ran an NFL-style offense, and the things you saw JJ doing translated far better to the NFL than all the other top prospects (to some degree or other).

Not only does Mike Lombardi theorize the Giants want Drake Maye.  On his last podcast, he said he heard from reliable sources the Giants want Drake Maye

The Giants will get back to work next Monday and they added a linebacker to their roster ahead of the start of the voluntary portion of their offseason schedule.

According to multiple reports, they have signed Matthew Adams to their 90-man roster. There's no word on the terms of the deal.

Adams made one start while playing in every game for the Browns last season and was a core member of their special teams units. He had 17 tackles and a forced fumble in those appearances.

The Colts drafted Adams in the seventh round in 2018 and he spent four years with them before moving on to the Bears in 2022.

Quote from: Philosophers on April 11, 2024, 02:20:04 PMWhen he was with the 49ers at end of his career he walked off the field at old Giants Stadium.  My mom whistled over for him to come over to get his autograph for a young kid sitting with us at the game.  He never hesitated.  Spoke to the kid too.  He loved being a celebrity and interacting with fans.

One thing that I have repeatedly marveled at is the complexity of people.  Too often, we see people putting them in boxes of good guys and bad guys.  Yet here is a man who murdered two people in cold blood but was more than willing to take time out of his busy life to do something nice for a fan.  It's hard to wrap one's head around the idea that people can be good and bad.

Giants have lots of league average players and very few difference makers. The odds on getting an elite player at 28 or 60 are against us. I'd want two future 1s and the 2024 R2 to even think about it.

I think you make a solid point.  However, I ran this trade through a mock draft simulator.  The team might once get an elite prospect, but all those picks sure allow a lot of holes to be addressed (WR, CB, 3 tech DI, S, RB, TE

Quote from: londonblue on April 11, 2024, 03:07:44 PMMammoth NT. Do we see one of Riley/Davidson as a 3T option? Are we considering moving Dex off the nose (surely not!)? Is it snap management for Dex?

The man is currently 31 and a half years old.  That is around the age those very large men start to break down.  I am frankly puzzled as to the purpose of this signing with respect to the points you raised as well.

The New York Giants signed veteran defensive lineman Jordan Phillips.

The 6-foot-6, 341-pound Oklahoma product has played in 120 games (62 starts) throughout his career for the Buffalo Bills (2018-19, 2022-23), Arizona Cardinals (2020-21), and Miami Dolphins (2015-18), who selected him in the second round of the 2015 NFL Draft. Phillips has also appeared in three postseason games – two with Buffalo and another with Miami.

His career numbers include 181 tackles (36 for loss) and 24 sacks, including a personal-best 9.5 with the Bills in 2019. He also has 51 quarterback hits, 24 passes defensed, three forced fumbles, two fumble recoveries, and one interception off Ryan Fitzpatrick during a win for the Dolphins over the Jets in 2016.

Last season, Phillips played in 14 games with Buffalo and batted down a career-high five passes to go along with 2.5 sacks. He started nine consecutive games at defensive tackle before suffering a season-ending wrist injury.

This was an article on the Athletic.  The idea is that the Bills trade up with the Giants to land an elite WR prospect to replace Diggs (and perhaps extend their window)

Here is the proposed trade

Bills receive: 2024 first-round pick (No. 6) and 2025 seventh-round pick
Giants receive: 2024 first-round pick (No. 28), 2024 second-round pick (No. 60), 2024 fourth-round pick (No. 128) and 2025 first-round pick

If you were Schoen, would you take this deal?

Here is what McGinn's scouts said about JMS prior to the draft

1. JOHN MICHAEL SCHMITZ, Minnesota (6-3 ½, 303, 5.31, 2): Sixth-year senior. "I have him ahead of Tippmann," one scout said. "He's my best center. Has a wrestling background. Very tough. Big and physical. He reminded me some of that kid that came out of Wisconsin, Travis Frederick. Has some athletic limitations but I think he can fit in both a gap and a zone scheme. He's a good enough athlete. He's played a lot of football. He's a plug-and-play, Day 1 starter." After redshirting in 2017, seldom getting on the field in '18 and starting four games in '19, he started all 31 games at center from 2020-'22. "Plays on his feet, works to finish, solid in the run game and pass pro," a second scout said. "It wouldn't surprise me if he starts right away. He has guard flex potentially, which is a big thing." Wonderlic of 22. "More fun to watch than he is talented," a third scout said. "We have him later in the draft. Center only. He's stiff and bends at the waist. Balance and body control are an issue. He's on the ground too much. Now, he is a XXXXX. He'll try to kill you on every play. But plays out of control." Arms were 32 5/8, hands were 9 ½. "Heart and hustle," said a fourth scout. "Gets in the way but nothing overly athletic about him. Just a smart, tough, heady player. He'll start." From Flossmoor, Ill.
