Or was this what they expected? (IE OLINE issues and little depth at OL & RB).

QB a surprise or point made?

Was this a point made for giving the baby (owner) his bottle?

I'm not trying to be overly critical here but Schoen/Dabol see to have too much collective football knowledge than to be caught off guard like this.

That being said, under John Mara's tenure this franchise has consistently under performed at OL & QB....yet, with what looked like a fresh start (the Schoen/Dabol regime), the "suggestion" that Jones hadn't been given a fair shot to that point, seems to have derailed what should've been a full rebuild to turn this team in the right direction long term.

Quote from: Bob In PA on October 28, 2023, 09:35:21 AMAndrew: If Giants miss a sensible opportunity to let DeVito play, it would IMO be a gave error... and stupid.

In the 'big picture' for this season, winning the Jets game originally was written off, but with Aaron Rodgers gone IMO it is now a "must-win" game (primarily because Giants lost to the Seahawks, a game which most of us had counted on winning in any scenario involving qualifying for the playoffs).

So a scenario where there's no doubt we're going to lose a "must-win" game (Jets) this late in the schedule means the season is over barring a miracle, and IMO failing to give DeVito a chance would be just plain stupid.

If not for unusual circumstances last year, the 49-er's probably still would not know today that mister irrelevant Brock Purdy is (at least) a worthy NFL starting QB.

There are many examples of "nobodies" getting a chance to play and surprising the league. At this point, we can at least dream of DeVito coming in and surprising the football world. I'm certain HE is dreaming about it!

Bob
Right on Bob!

For me, I have little confidence in Taylor leading this team to the playoffs.

So if I'm spending $$$ I at least want some entertainment value this year. Seeing the local boy make good could help fill the void of another losing season.

If we're getting beat at halftime I want to see Touchdown Tommy DeVito.

Big Blue Huddle / Invitations
October 23, 2023, 06:49:09 PM
Color me myopic. I choose to hold out hope for 8-9 wins this year.

The way I see it, our best hope at turning this season around includes Jones & the starting OL coming back healthy this week.

Between them, Barkley, and a developing Hyatt on "O" and the "D" continually improving, a turnaround is not out of  the question.

CONFIDENCE is the necessary intangible. How do they build confidence? Beating the Jets and the Cowboys.

So here are my invitations:

This Sunday having Coach Coughlin, Eli and Victor in the building.

Vs the Cowboys put JPP, and Jake on the team plane to Dallas.

Create that winning atmosphere and let's beat the teams who could most impact their psyche for the rest of the games down the stretch!

All is not lost!! KEEP THE FAITH!

Quote from: Jclayton92 on October 22, 2023, 08:30:48 PMIn 4 games and 3/4ths of a game Jones has 884 passing yards 2 tds 6 int and a 71.7 rating.

In 2 games and a 1/4th tyrod taylor has 571 passing yards 2 tds 0 int and a 95.4 rating. Not to mention he hadn't played any meaningful snaps in 2+ years.

Doesn't seem the controversial or even a question to me. One has the offense moving up and down the field with explosive plays and the other goes 3 and out consistently throwing short of the sticks.

Not to mention it's amazing how well the defense plays when they know there is a qb in that can move the offense and they know they have a chance.
I'm not a DJ apologist by any stretch, in fact I don't see him as the future of the franchise.

But I have to be fair; Taylor had the benefit of the opposing defense healthy respect of our potential to run primarily because he had Saquon. DJ didn't.

When you balance that with both QBs needing to negotiate a poor offensive line, I don't see anywhere near enough evidence to spark a controversy.

Taylor started 2 games with Saquon as his RB and averaged 11.5 points per game.

If that is the impetus for a QB controversy, this team is far more flawed than it looks.

I don't know why Kafka is being held to account. He is only dealing the hand he was dealt by injuries and Bobby Johnson.

Let's see, Tyrod has started one game with us and he's 0-1. He scored a grand total of 9 points and couldn't score from the 1 yard line at the end of both halves.

Yet we're sitting here talking about how he plays better than Jones at a cheaper price when the $$$ is already spent.

What am I missing here?!

Quote from: True Blue on October 16, 2023, 12:01:39 AMThe question was not was TT a difference maker, the question is in the name of the thread.

For that salary they could have signed a G, and upgraded the depth from guys like Peart and Lemieux, and maybe something on the defense
Perhaps.

But you can thank Meddling Mara for that and the current front office who acquiesced to his desire.

They should've never paid DJ that kind of $$, I agree. Tyrod is but a band-aid applied to a sucking chest wound.

The offense scored 9 points with Barkley back and Hyatt having a presence which freed Slayton.

He blew a chance at points in the 1st half and at the end of the game.

How was he a difference maker?

Sorry but this is a poorly coached team with no discipline or self control.

I mean we're up 6-0 is the offense really that much better than it has been all year?!

Defense and specials NEED to keep doing what they're doing if we're going to have a shot here.
