Quote from: DaveBrown74 on November 10, 2023, 03:35:15 PMFirstly, how do we know he has CTE? He may well have it, but this cannot be diagnosed before death.

Secondly, this is not the first time he has gotten in trouble. He had an incident as a 21 year old in 2015 at USC that involved the cops coming and having to physically restrain him. Did he have CTE then too?

I get all your points but I just can't be understanding on any level when it comes to an enormous man brutalizing a woman to the point of putting her in the hospital with extremely severe injuries. He nearly killed her, and he's lucky he didn't. 100% of my sympathy is for her, and only her. I hope he serves several years in prison. I realize that that won't make him a better person, but at least he won't be able to hurt more women during that period, plus he deserves to be punished significantly for this regardless.

His behavior is a dead giveaway. Sort of like Luke Pettigout who when went from being just another normal guy to a dude who threw his wife out of a moving car. The USC police detaining him for a mental health hold is another sign. I'm not excusing his behavior, far from it, but all the signs are there.

Quote from: DaveBrown74 on November 10, 2023, 12:04:57 PMAny man who is violent with a woman for ANY reason is the scum of the earth in my book. And it sounds like this was a particularly egregious example. I regret that this "man" was ever associated with our team for even one minute.

I'm inclined to disagree in this specific case. If we've learned anything about CTE the last 20 years is that people with it lack impulse control and are prone to violent outbursts. That doesn't excuse Wheeler's actions but if his brain is damaged and that damage affects his behavior it's had to call him the scum of the earth. He's dealing with a mental illness that as football fans were going to have to get accustomed to, because CTE isn't going away.

Quote from: brownelvis54 on November 08, 2023, 11:58:25 AMThree scenarios here:

1-Draft Harrison Jr and in the 2nd round get a QB (Bo Nix)

2-Draft J.J. McCarthy

3-Take a gamble and trade back (not too far) and HOPE J.J. McCarthy is there when we pick in the 1st round

In a quarterback needy league I don't think Nix lasts till the second round. If McCarthy has a top 10 grade and the other two are gone they should take him. I don't like the idea of trading back if there's a hood quarterback left on the board. I'd rather see them slightly overpay than to play games and lose a guy that can get us headed to where we want to go.

Quote from: Woody on November 08, 2023, 06:49:40 AMRonni Barnes should retire and let some younger people in to manage stuff....but no ...he is Mara's best friend.
May not make difference but a whole new younger approach to medicine may help. how much influence does he have over conditioning/ training programs and rehab procedures ?
I don't know but he is the common denominator in injuries issues that seem to reoccur for this team year after year.

Promote him out of his position to a position where he has next to no day to day impact the sports medicine side. I don't care what they have to do but we can't be among the most injured teams in the league year after year for a decade.

Chicago will likely have two of the top four picks and will use one on a quarterback. The other team is likely to be the Cardinals who have already let it leak that they're sticking with Murray if for no other reason than because of his contract. So unless someone convinces one of those two to trade their pick one of the two should be available. Even then like with Eli we should be looking to trade up ourselves to ensure they get one of those guys.

Quote from: babywhales on November 06, 2023, 03:18:57 PMYou are correct, the pride in Minnesota is second to none, they are the epicenter of youth hockey for the US, rivaled by only the Boston area.
Most communities in Minnestoa have a community center with two full sheets of ice, some as many as 14 full sheets.

We travel to twin cities area for select hockey all spring and most of the summer.

I was at the badger vs Michigan game Saturday but checked the score and saw the Rangers were up 3-0 and was thrilled. Checked when I got home after a completely thrilling badger win with .06 sec left, to see the Rangers were going to OT.

The streak was bound to end at some point.

Let's see how the blue shirts rebound for the Red Wings tomorrow.

Mike Hastings is proof how important great coaching is to college athletics. I don't think there has ever been a bigger turn around from one season to the next in college sports than what we're seeing in Madison right now.

Quote from: RelaxTension on November 07, 2023, 12:04:12 PMThe franchise tag for QBs was 32,416,000 and transitional tag $29,504,000

I don't know what I was looking at when I saw it was in the low 20's. Either way the franchise would have but the team another year and in retrospect would have saved them millions on the cap next year and the years after.

Quote from: nicky1000 on November 06, 2023, 05:56:51 PMThe big mistake, which Schoen acknowledged was not picking up 5th year option.....

He could have nullified that mistake to some degree by franchising him this year. IIRC the tag for quarterbacks this year was in the low $20 million area. If he wasn't worth picking up his fifth year option why was he worth a four year extension after lighting the league up with 15 passing touchdowns?

Quote from: Giant Jim on November 06, 2023, 01:11:35 PMHe gave Judge a 5 year contract and said he would slowly get involved with GM type decisions thru the years. I believed him to mean or indicate Judge would eventually have Belichick type control.

I'm talking about what Mara said after he fired Judge.

Quote from: Giant Jim on November 06, 2023, 06:51:35 AMI didn't think that until yesterday. The losses to the Jets & Buffalo could've been prevented by coaching, but could be part of learning for the head coach. Yesterday's fiasco in inexcusable.

Mara said after he fired Judge that we can't keep firing coaches after two years. So no he won't get fired absent some egregious personal behavior. He gets another year and I'm fine with it as the issues plaguing this franchise run so much deeper than coaching.

Leaders lead not by words but by example. Stop blaming others for your failures. I'm not saying that Daboll is perfect or a great coach but I'm tired of players who don't lead crying about not being able to lead. Give me a break.

Quote from: MightyGiants on November 06, 2023, 08:47:43 AMI see a lot of QB needy teams with similar records to the Giants and as likely to lose as many games as the Giants.

I suspect that the Bears will be sitting in the catbird seat in terms of auctioning off a prime draft selection to get one of the top QBs and the Giants among the bidders.

It's likely that the Bears will be in the cat bird seat but they also play Carolina and Arizona the second half of the season. So their pick may actually be higher than it is right now. The pick that they got from Carolina has a better chance of staying where it is but the Panthers aren't playing for draft position and aren't likely to roll over the rest of the way. I would be surprised if they managed an upset or two but I also wouldn't be surprised if they lost every game going forward.

Dan,

I'd trade watching all of our Super Bowls if it guarantees that I'd get to live long enough to see my grandchildren and great grandchildren prosper. It sounds like you have a lovely family, so rest up my friend. Spend the time otherwise wasted watching this years version of Big Blue with your family.

Just for a little perspective Peyton Manning was 2-6 at Tennessee against top 10 teams and the year after he left they won the National Championship. The knock on him was that he didn't win the big games.

If we get a quarterback in this upcoming draft that has a career anything close to Peyton's every last poster here would have an ear to ear grin for the next 15 years.

Every top prospect gets nit picked. I suppose that it makes sense as no one can stomach drafting a bust in the top two or three but there are guys that are just different.
