Quote from: T200 on October 30, 2023, 06:16:35 PMWith Jones' neck injury history, only GM I can picture trading for him is Gettleman.

That made me laugh.  Because it's absolutely true.

This season isn't exactly fair unless you want to say Jones' regression is Daboll's fault which would be a fair criticism.  Losing 13 OL to injury is going to derail a season.  Jones playing like he can't throw a ball 15 yards on a line is going to derail a season.  Barkley getting hurt...Parris Campbell being....Parris Campbell all of this is going to derail a season.

But the bright side of this is that they can hopefully start a real rebuild now without the mirage of last season staring them in the face.  Reality seems to have set in so we can get this rebuild going in the right direction.  Starting with Leonard Williams but hopefully not ending with him.

Incredible road trip for the boys in blue.  Going out west like that for an extended period of time is always tough and to come away with the maximum points is quite an accomplishment.  We've mentioned it before but last year they dug themselves a big hole losing a bunch of games they should have won.  This year it seems quite the opposite because I looked at this trip and anticipated probably 2 losses but instead we got a clean sweep!

This pace is gonna be hard to keep up all season, but on paper they look better than last year and so far are performing that way too.  I'm starting to get excited about this bunch!

That's unfortunate.  Was really hoping somebody would take that guy off our hands.

I don't care what Riley Leonard does on the field. I don't care what he does at the combine. I don't care what he scores on the wonderlic or whatever test they use now is. If they draft another QB from duke I'm going to lose it. Let him be great elsewhere because if he came to the Giants he'd suck out loud.

I also think as of now I'd have McCarthy 3rd over Bo Nix mainly because Nix is old. So is Penix. But I think skills wise they're all in the same tier. McCarthy just has more potential to become better by virtue of being 3 years younger than those other two. However if Daboll fell in full bloom love with Nix or Penix I wouldn't be upset.

Just please don't take Riley. I'm begging you.

Giants selling off Leonard Williams and hopefully others should keep them in the top 5 and in position to potentially trade with Chicago.  The Bears might still like Fields or even if they don't they can't draft two QBs back to back so they could easily trade one of those picks to a team, such as the Giants, that desperately need a new QB to start over with.

Quote from: kingm56 on October 30, 2023, 03:40:53 PMSpot on, Doc; the LW trade has to be considered one of the worst in recent Giants history, as it directly contributed to Williams ridiculous salary.  Williams production failed to match his bloated salary; worse, his contract prevented us from acquiring quality Fee Agents.  The sooner we get rid Gettlmen era players, the sooner we can move out of the NFL basement. GREAT TRADE and I hope this is just the start.  Id like to see Barkley and Jackson moved too.

And the worst part was....anybody with any sense could see it was a stupid trade the second it went down except our esteemed GM at the time.  Who of course knows more than everybody else by virtue of being the smartest man in every room he enters.  Good God was that a bad deal.

Quote from: andrew_nyGiants on October 30, 2023, 03:36:41 PMNice assets to include in a package for a QB.

I'm not a collegiate expert so here's my question: is there a QB in this years draft worth of a top 1-3 pick?

Or do they use Dimes or another QB as a bridge and stockpile for 2025?

Caleb Williams is QB1 and most would consider that to be clear.  After him there are at least 2 and maybe even 3 or 4 QBs that would have been graded better than Jones was the year he came out.  Whoever ends up with the #1 pick will almost certainly take Caleb Williams.  After that the Giants might look to move up to #2 or #3 in order to get one themselves if they have enough capital.

If yesterday's loss is what we had to suffer through in order to get a true fire sale and rebuild...I for one think it was worth it.

I don't see this as very disappointing at all to be honest.  I'm disappointed that they got blown out so badly by the Cowboys and Seahawks but it's not like I was expecting double digit wins this year.  They won a bunch of flukey games and this year they're losing.  Last year they'd have beaten the Bills and Jets and we'd be looking at a team that's in playoff position even though they're not very good.

Losing to the Jets, which hopefully initiates a fire sale, is probably the best thing that could have happened to them.  The manner in which they lost was stupid...but the loss itself was probably necessary.

Big Blue Huddle / Re: OT coin toss-wrong choice?

This is exactly right and I said as much in real time.  It's maybe the first and only time in history a team would have been better off letting the defense take the field first, stopping the opponent as they had done the entire game, and then only needing a FG to win it.  Granted their kicker was playing on one leg evidently so there's no guarantee he could make it but we didn't know that at the time. 99% of the time you take the ball.  This was perhaps the 1 time in 100 you don't.

I still don't know if the Giants end up winning though cause Adoree mauling a WR 50 yards down the field would probably end it regardless.  But I do think they should have put the defense out there first.

Everything must go!

Let the Fire Sale commence.  There should really only be a handful of people off limits.  Dex/Thibs/Thomas/Hyatt...maybe that's it?  On Banks for sure.  Otherwise... if people call the Giants should answer.

And we should also temper expectations too.  Barkley isn't going for a 1st or 2nd round pick.  Maybe not even a 3rd rounder.  It doesn't matter.  They should get whatever they can and the more picks they have the more they will be able to use those picks to trade up in the draft.  Hopefully they can collect enough to be able to position themselves to take a QB in an unusually deep QB class.

Big Blue Huddle / Re: Dex was a beast yesterday

He's been a beast for a couple years now!  Although to be fair the Jets were on their 4th string center so he'd have better had a performance like that.
